Summary: Super product
Review: I decided to buy this player because it is one of the best in mp3 players market. I made the right choice. The player is really easy to use and I enjoy it very much. The only con was removing the battery cover. But after a few times, I can remove it easily.

Another factor I considered important was FM tuner. This is the only player that offers this feature for a low incredible prices compared to other manufacturer's products. This product is worth of your money and you will definitly enjoy it!

Summary: More Money = More Problems. A True Story.
Review: ...In a nutshell, this is just like the C model, but comes fully equipped with unncessary accessories and options, some of which are useless. The maximum memory capacity for this one is 128mb, while the C can hold up to 160mb (assuming both are fully upgraded). The 64mb model comes with a FM tuner option, headphones, a leather case, and a wired remote.

I truly found little use for the very simplistic wired remote. However, I can understand how some people will enjoy its compact size. Personally, I found the buttons a little too small. The headphones were a joke. They were not stereo, despite what the manual may have inferred. The sound quality paled next to my sony headphones, and the creative labs one had too short of a cord. Also, the bass was extremely weak (a warning to all techno and dance enthusiasts). The leather case was sleek and soft, but is useless unless used (try saying that 10x in a row lol) in conjunction with the wired remote for accessibility. THE FM TUNER IS A JOKE. That's right. I read the other reviews and I wouldn't believe it, but it's true. The quality is only semi-decent while situated at home. When outdoors, the reception turns to static and the music gets "jumpy".

All in all, I give this thing 2 stars. The mp3 playing function is decent. The software is easy to set up, USB is fast, can hold up to 20 songs at 128kbs x 44hz(cd quality). That's why I won't rate this as a 1. It gets the job done, but a lot of the extra packaging could have been left out and the price lowered. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you buy the C version instead. You'll get more bang for your buck. ( BTW, if you really want a wired remote, you can buy the accessories kit). ...

Summary: THIS IS A GREAT MP3 PLAYER BUT....
Review: THIS MP3 PLAYER IS RATED BY CONSUMER REPORTS AS #1 ALL AROUND . BUT THAT ONLY COMPARING TO OTHER MP3 PLAYERS THAT ARE NOT SO NEW. I PURCHASED THIS MP3 PLAYER LOOKING TO USE IT IN THE GYM. IT HAS GREAT FEATURES AND IS VERY USER FRIENDLY. VERY LIGHT IN WEIGHT AND SMALL TO FIT WITH ITS HANDY BELT CLIP. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THIS UNIT ONLY CAN HOLD 64MB MEMORY (ABOUT LESS THEN AN HOURE OF MUSIC). THIS WAS NOT ENOUGH FOR MY TO USE WITH A 2 HOUR WORK OUT . THE OTHER NEGATIVES ARE THE MEMORY SLOT IS IN THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT SNUG TIGHT. THEIR IS NO ROOM FOR YOU OT PULL THE CARD OUT AND THE BATTERY IS IN THE WAY. VERY POOR DESIGN ON THIS MATTER. I ASK MY SELF WHY CREATIVE WOULD DESIGN SUCH A GREAT DEVICE BUT ONLY STORES UP TO 64MB OR MUSIC AND HAVE SUCH A POOR DESING FOR MEMORY STORAGE. ALSO IF YOU ARE BUYING THIS ITEM BUT ABOUT 4 BATTERIES YOU WILL NEED THEM IT EATS THE POWER UP 2 HOURS A BATTERY IF THAT. SUGGEST THE NOMAD 2 MG WITH 128-190 MB . THIS ITEM IS NOT PRICE JUSTIFIED DUE TO THE LACK OF MEMORY

Summary: Nomad II 64mb. ..
Review: The Nomad II is an excellant audio player. I had done a lot of research in reading reviews and such. On zdnet and amazon, although the amazon editorial reviews are hardly ever negative at all. Some of the major flaws that people had with the Nomad didn't bother me much at all. I saw that some people had trouble getting the memory card out. I'm not sure what the problem was, as I am easily able to slide it out with my thumb WITH the battery in and plop it back in. Now it isnt something you can do upside down in the dark .. but this is nothing that qualifies as a flaw. Volume. I don't see what the problem was with volume as I can easily turn it up to where its just too loud. Maybe the flaw lies in the ripping program that Creative bundles with it? I dont know. I have no problem with volume controls. Removable memory seems to be another arguement with this player. Althought 64mb BUILT-IN would be very nice. The removable smartmedia card does just fine. I just bought a 64mb smartmedia card from amazon for my digital camera and Nomad .... Now this isnt a GREAT price but smartmedia is certainly coming down in price and this is a good thing. Soon you will be able to swap these in and out of your MP3 player/digital player like cassette tapes. On-board memory will soon be fairly insubstantial. I did expect the Nomad to be slightly smaller but, I can understand the size due to the large and easy read LCD display. I really dont have a problem with the size, just expected it to be smaller. Ah yes. a few more points. The FM radio also seemed to be weak as others have said. I can still get my three favorite Fm stations pretty clear here in chicago and thats all i really care about. Lastly .. the belt clip. If you are working out its not so good to attach to some workout shorts if you are going to do some heavy running but, other than that it works just fine.

.. alright .. have fun. :)

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
Review: If you want a quality MP3 player that comes with excellent technical support, DO NOT BUY THIS ONE!! I bought this player in February of 2001, used it about 20 times at the gym and then it broke. I called technical support(there is no 800 number, so the bills on you while you wait half an hour for someone to come on the line), and they were not able to walk me through any solution, so I had to send it back. Two months later, I recieved a new one from Creative. Luckily, it had the same memory card in it with the songs that were on it before because now I can't load any new music on it. I can delete files, check the memory, and set the presets, but no new music. I just got of the phone with Creative, and they won't give me a toll free number for technical support. So, buy at your own risk.

Summary: Perfect for those with existing Smaertmedia devices
Review: This player sounds great, is easy to use, and is priced within reason. I have no qualms about the software, because I didn't need to install it. As with my Camera (Olympus) it uses Smartmedia. I do have a SanDisk reader which makes transfering media a snap. Simply drag the files to the Card Reader's "Drive Letter" and you're in business.

The sound is plenty loud. Your ears won't bleed, but it's at about the highest level I can stand when listening to DVDs on my home stereo. By the way, running the line level input into the your home audio system is an easy way to enjoy your MP3s at any volume you desire.

I believe my money was well spent.

Summary: Caution: Smartmedia cards >64Mb are not supported
Review: I'm generally pleased with this device, but you should be aware that although Smartmedia cards in excess of 64Mb are on the available now, they are not supported by the NOMAD II at present. Creative's website does not say when or if they will support larger SmartMedia cards.

The implication that the SmartMedia slot provides an upgrade path is an illusion.

If you want more capacity, you should look elsewhere.

Summary: A Great Unit, But Needs More Work
Review: When I ordered the Creative Nomad II unit I was expecting to use it in my car through the use of a Car Cassette Adapter. After receiving the Nomad and Adapter, I was very disappointed that in order to hear anything through my car stereo, I had to turn the volume on the Nomad up to 24 (the highest setting), and turn up my car stereo volume so loud that all I basically heard was hissing and static, with some music muffled in the background. I tried both the Headphone and Line Out settings and neither worked.

On the unit itself;

The belt clip could be tighter, as when clipped to thinner fabric it tends to want to fall off. The clip would benefit from being deeper as well.

The battery cover removes easily, unless you have a SmartMedia Card inserted, then you're risking dropping the unit trying to slide it off.

The SmartMedia Card could be placed elsewhere, as you have to remove the battery cover in order to swap cards. And good luck gripping the Card with a battery in place!

The Voice Recording Feature would be better left alone. Not only is it awkward to change the Nomad into recording mode (you'll forget what you have to say before you get there), but the quality is horrible, and you have to be within inches to record anything legible.

The FM Radio doesn't pick up anything. Maybe an internal antenna rather than using the Ear Phone cable as an antenna would benefit this feature. Probably not.

Navigation within the menu is also awkward. Perhaps change it to a display and put buttons on the unit for each feature. You can't see what time it is, see what songs are in your unit, or do anything else without stopping the play of your music. A bad design.

Back Phones should be replaced with regular Ear Phones, as the Back Phones pinch your ears and are much to large.

A rechargable battery should be included, along with an AC adapter. Although available in an additional purchase, Creative can afford to include it in this package at no additional cost.

The sound (when used with headphones) sounds great though. Just a few major problems that will force me to send it back for a refund. Sorry Creative. Better luck on Nomad III.

Summary: A Spiffy Little Toy!!!!
Review: The Nomad II is a great mid-level MP3 player. Very good sound control over a wide range of music styles. Loud enough to get your attention when AC/DC is loaded up for a serious gym workout - it seems to be skip-proof, doesn't rattle around a lot when you are biking or running. I swapped out the headset for a pair of the sony flexibles as the shape of the original was a bit bothersome when riding - a minor inconvenience rather than a show stopper.

The down side is this is a razor-razor blade situation - and at $80 for an extra blade, it can get pricy if you need to have 3 or 4 extra memory cards. Or plan on swapping songs off the card frequently. The software is a no brainer - I'm on widnows 98 on one system and 2000 on another with zero problems.

I do wish that it had an expandable memory option - at 64meg, it's just a bit thin and no options to upgrade to 128 or above. If that were addressed, this gizmo would be a world beater.
