Summary: nomad IIc = big fun
Review: I absolutly love this mp3 player! my brother has a rio something-or-other and i can't stand it - it holds almost no songs, the quality isn't that great, and its a bit of a pain. the nomad is insanly durable - i've dropped mine probably a thousand times, even out of a moving car, and it still works. the lid that holds the battery in didn't even pop off! the headphones that come with it aren't that great, my padding fell off in about a month, but i just use my sony psych headphones that came with my CD player. the headphones that come with it are street-style (loop over your ears and come behind your neck) wich i adore, and the volume is a lot of fun to play with - you can change the DSP settings to jazz for Sinatra, clasical for Mozart, rock for Nirvana, pop for Something Corporate, or you can customize your own sound with more bass or treble up to 30 notches. if all of that confuses you, just set the DSP to NORMAL - big fun...i highly suggest you get this mp3 player if you are looking for one. best of all, i can use it on my Mac, and even if the songs i load from my CD's onto the nomad arent mp3 quality, i can still fit about 30 songs onto it, and if the songs ARE mp3 quality, i can fit twice as much! a great mp3 player for teens or 'grownups'...that is, if you've decided to grow up yet...

Summary: Great Product, but outdated technology
Review: I bought a Nomad model exactly like this one (only without the built in memory) way back when Minidisks and MP3 players were first becoming popular. It was a great deal for the money I spent, and the MP3 player worked great. I was able to take it on runs, car trips, to school, and everywhere else and it would hold up. The size is nice as well, it can easily fit in the palm of one's hand. However, this MP3 player uses a lesser known type of media card. It is available, but I'd highly suggest a player with a CF/CFII or sD card slot. If youre not going to use more than 128 megs (which is alot for most) then don't worry about that. Also, this technology, comparatively speaking, is outdated. For $50 more you can get a much nicer player and more memory expansion options. But, for most this player will do it. Creative Labs is great about releasing firmware and software upgrades. If you just need something to play <128MB of MP3's and wav's, this is for you[].

Summary: Poor Customer Service
Review: I had my Nomad IIc for nearly 8 months and was very happy with it. One day for some unknown reason the volume buttons stopped working. Since the Nomad was out of warranty I opened it up and found that the volume buttons had broken off the motherboard.

I decided to send it in for repair. I talked with the customer service rep and he told me that it would take 10 days to repair it, possibly a few more days because mine wasn't under warranty. When I sent it in I put a detailed note in the box about how I had found that the volume buttons were broke off the motherboard.

I wait 10 days and then follow-up on the repair status through their website--it says they're still waiting to test it. I write an email through their website asking about the status. The email reply says the same thing as the website...it still needs to get tested. The only good thing is that they give me a phone number. I call the phone number and the woman on the line says she doesn't know why it hasn't been tested and says she will call me with the status--she never does.

I finally call again nearly 4 weeks since I sent it in and the website is still showing no change in status. I ask her about the status and she puts me on hold and then comes back to tell me that I owe them $52.00 to replace the motherboard and then on top of it she tells me it will take another 10-14 days to get it back!!!

I just checked the website before writing this review and the website says they're still waiting for the repair cost after I gave them my credit card number 7 days ago.

The most unfortuante thing about this episode is that I was happy with Creative until these problems. Not anymore!!

Summary: Try it before you buy it
Review: I had envisioned the 4 hour voice record time as perfect for my classes. The microphone has extremely poor pickup quality and you have to speak directly into it to pick anything up. There is no provision for an external mic. The instructions are extremely brief and poorly written and left out steps. I had to go to customer service via email to find out how to record. Creative Labs customer service was very good and responded rapidly. I am sticking with my $30 microcassette recorder.

Summary: Great sound, but limited
Review: This sounds great, and is relatively small and light. However, the software included (Creative Playcenter 2) is poorly designed and buggy. For example, when I want to add songs to the SM Card, the program freezes, making it impossible to use the extra 128 MB unless I use another program, like MusicMatch. Also, Creative says they will provide updates to the player's operating system to support future formats, but MP3Pro has been around for a while and there is no upgrade yet. The menu system is poor too; it reads the file name, not the song's ID tag, so when you want to pick a song, you only see the first few letters of the file name. So if you have several songs from the same album or band, you can't figure out which song is which. (example: I have 10 songs in a row named "Audiosla~"). Another negative is larger hard-drive based players are not that much more $ now. This costs about $150 (including a 128 SM card) for 256 MB, while you can get either a 10 GB iPod or a 30 GB Creative Zen for about $300. I bought this because it sounds great, was lighter, smaller and cheaper than an iPod and the lack of moving parts means that its less likely to break. All that is true, but now I am getting annoyed with its limitations.

Summary: Best Among Non-Jukebox Players Around.
Review: Solid built. Best among non-Jukebox players around. Doc station is a must have.

The only drawback is that it can use SM as large as only 128 MB. ... I could be wrong though.

Summary: no problems so far!
Review: I'd like to say i LOVE this mp3 player. I have had it for close to a year now and i have dropped it at least half a dozan times and i carry it in my backpack with me all the time so its been beaten up quite a bit. Even with all the abuse I havent had any problems with it yet.:) The only minor problem is that dust can get trapped under the screen and theres no way to clean it, also the belt holder dosent work at all, thats why it has been dropped so much. I would recommend this player to anyone.

Summary: good solid player
Review: The NOMAD IIc is a rugged easy to use player. I use it when I'm running, and it has taken several falls to the deck, but survived with only a scratch on the case.

Summary: a couple drawbacks
Review: I agree with most other reviewers that this MP3 player's quality and durability is ok. But here're my little gripes:

1) the random setting really isn't random. It keeps playing the same sequence of songs over and over again, so after awhile, it's no longer random. Sure, you can put in about 30 songs w/o additional card, but even then, the songs get old fast.

2) the belt clip is fine for walking around, but for rigorous exercise, it'll fall off. Invest in some sort of velcro band for around your arm.

Summary: Great for Working Out
Review: I needed an MP3 player for working out and running and this baby did it all. The 128 MB of storage is always enough for all the songs I want to listen to while I'm running or working out for an hour. The belt clip is perfect and hold onto my mesh shorts while running. If you get some Koss earbud earphones, you can hardly notice you have anything attached to you. The interface is fine and the program it comes with on you computer is prety simple, provided you arent a total idiot. I have had it for almost a year and dropped it several times, and it continues to work fine (knock on wood). Oh yea, another thing...BATTERY LIFE IS AMAZING!!! One AA battery is good for like 8 to 10 hours. fantastic to find anything like that today. Definetly worth the price I paid for it.
