Summary: Finally got the beige PC out from under the telly ...
Review: This is great, I finally was able to move the old beige PC from under the TV and replace it wth the smart loking piece of kit. It is great, I can set up all my music in playlists from the PC and play it across the wireless network (used a Linksys WET11 to connect it) on my HiFi. Also, if you are from Europe and you can get one of these from the US you will save a fortune ! All you need is a voltage convertor that can be bought for 20 Euros.

Summary: Combined ethernet and phone line version
Review: This is the ethernet and HPNA version (home phone line) of the Turtle Beach's Audiotron. There is a slightly less expensive model that only provides ethernet connectivity, but is in all other respects the same machine. The ethernet-only version has Amazon ASIN B00006Y0DQ.

To sum up the long review I wrote for the non-HPNA version, this is the network audio appliance to get for sound quality because it simply passes on the bits from wave files or MP3s it reads to its optical S/P-DIF without loss. This allows a high-quality digital-analog converters (DACs) to be used, such as the ones found in even moderately priced A/V receivers. Setup is reasonably straightforward, but does require some knowledge of Windows networking (it only reads Windows networks, but Linux servers can be accessed through Samba). And while the web server for remote jukebox control is adequate, it's very slow.

Summary: Perfect solution
Review: This is the perfect solution for anyone with a lot of music, a stereo and a home network. It's simple in concept and execution and requires very little intervention to get going and up to date with your music library. The real effort is finally ripping all your CDs to a hard drive on your network. Clean and well worth the money.

Summary: What can I say, this thing ROCKS!!!!!
Review: This thing rocks. I can't believe you get as much as you do for this price. I like the fact that it uses your home pc to serve MP3s.

I was thinking about spending more and getting something with built in hard drives but this is a much better way to go. The hard drives can make all the noise they want in my office keeping my AV equipment cooler and less noisy. I can also add more drives to my sever much easier than you can ad drives to the more expensive units with the drives built in. It also sees all the MP3s you are sharing on any of your machines on your network. I also like that I can control play lists from my wireless laptop.

Setting up the network was a snap and should be for anyone who has some basic networking knowledge. Turtle Beach also has some excellent support. The other great thing about this device is that it has the same footprint as the rest of my AV equipment leaving my Sony DSS receiver the only odd ball.

...

The Audiotron works just like it promised to. I plugged it into my house network (Ethernet), it grabbed an IP address via DHCP and proceeded to find the computers on the network that were sharing music files. I have several machines; it found them all. It fits neatly into my stereo component stack. Looks good. Sounds great; better than music played through cheesy PC speakers. Did I mention the Web interface so you can rest your lazy [rear] on the couch while you choose songs?

Simply an excellent product. Highly recommended....

Summary: Excellent digital audio receiver
Review: Very pleased with my AudioTron, makes the most of an existing home network and archives of MP3s. Far cheaper than hard drive-based digital audio receivers, the AudioTron has excellent sound quality, solid construction, and is generally easy to use. Only took me about 15 minutes to setup, making connections to my reciever and network hub.

PROS:
- Bright, easy to read LCD display
- Solid construction of case & controls, rack-mountable
- Digital audio out (optical SPDIF)
- Web interface is quite good, makes device accessible throughout your home
- Excellent sound quality, particularly when using digital out and higher bit-rate MP3s (192 kbps+)
- Great phone support from Turtle Beach, software updates
- Adjustable pre-buffering to eliminate interuption of music stream and reduce latency

CONS:
- Included remote feels a bit [flimsy], has too many buttons allocated to preset "favorites" while lacking important functionality like accessing "Options" menu
- Bundled Audiostation software has a lot of functionality, but a bit buggy (I experienced some difficulty using CD ripping features, but plenty of other software available which provides similar functionality)
- Connecting to a wireless 802.11b network requires additional hardware since device only has Ethernet 10Base-T connection

All in all, an excellent and truly networked device. Offers more functionality that similar devices (like Rio Digital Receiver) and looks right at home w/ your other stereo components.
