Summary: Great Camera, Reasonable Price
Review: After reading a lot of good reviews on this camera, I purchased it for Christmas '00. I have used the camera for almost 1 year and have been very happy with it. Smart Media cards are getting cheaper, so there is no reason not to upgrade to at least a 32mb card (Fuji should provide a larger capacity card!). Ni-cad batteries are also a needed upgrade. Software was easy to install and use (the reviewer that said that the software doesn't work with Windows ME is WRONG!). The LCD viewscreen is very hard to see in sunlight and it eats batteries, so don't use it much. Color reproduction is GREAT with this camera. We take tons of pictures (why not, it doesn't use anything!) and the really special ones, I print out on my HP932 color printer, works great!

Summary: Good camera.....great price
Review: After reading review after review, I decided to go with the Finepix 1400 Zoom. It is the ideal digital camera for a college student or just anyone looking for a point-and-shoot type style with no major interest in photography. The zoom on the camera is very good (3x optical, 2x digital), however, in order to get clear pictures with it, you must remain very still. The interface and options on the camera are very easy, with everything displayed on the LCD. The menus are easy to understand for a person with a practical knowledge images. The LCD lights up nicely, but can be somewhat dim outside. The sliding shutter keeps the lens clear of dust, dirt, and damage.

The USB connection between the computer and camera is faster than I expected. I can transfer 30 pictures in about 10 seconds. With a program such as Adobe Photoshop, you can transfer your pictures, then shut off your camera and save batteries.

Overall, the camera is very good and I would recommend it to anyone. The good features are the zoom, lens cover, LCD, and menu interface. One of the cons is obviously the sucking up of battery juice, but you get that with any digital camera. 4 recharable batteries take care of this problem nicely.

Several accessories are a must for this camera. First, I suggest at least a 16 megabyte smartmedia card. Fuji only provides a 4 MB one. With this 16 MB card, you can take 163 pics at 640 x 480 and normal quality. This is more than enough for me. Second, rechargable batteries and a charger are a must. I recommend the Kodak recharger ... I also purchased a case to keep the camera safe from damage.

In conclusion, the Finepix 1400 is a great camera for a novice user. It provides clear pictures at a good price. It does have some limitations, but those features probably would be used by a more advanced photographer anyway. Go for this camera....you won't be disappointed.

Summary: Fuji Finepix 1400 no good with Windows ME millenium Edition
Review: After researching many digital cameras, I decided that the Fuji Finepix 1400 was the best deal. The camera works fine, but I could not take advantage of the USB connection since the drivers included for Win 98 and Win 2000 are not supported by Win ME. The Fuji website was not helpful either and I ended up having to buy a Smartmedia card reader in order to really evaluate the performance of the camera.

Summary: Easy digital fun
Review: Good camera for the entry level novice type new to all this wacky digital stuff. I was able to get all started and whatnot prettty quick, it wasn't too technical. I have a mac and the software was painless to install and use. I'd recommend buying the rechargeable batteries (get 8- 4 to keep in the camera and the other 4 to throw in when the ones in die). They arent kidding when people say these cameras suck batteries dry fast! Good stuffs, this thing.

Summary: Fiji film finepix 1400 digital camera
Review: good camera. Hard to handle though. Good clarity of pictures. Could stand different zoom buttons. Good size, good usb and good software. Nice LCD to veiw pictures. ALso very handy to have a veiw finder especially in the sun. Long battery life compared to others. Don't use the LCD if you don't have to. Gussles battery life.

Summary: Fuji Finepix 1400
Review: Great camera for the price, . . . you can't beat it. Easy to use for even a digital camera novice (me). Great photos, even when viewed at 8x10, sleek and compact. Only drawbacks I have found is the viewfinder outdoors is difficult to see, but I actually prefer the point and shoot method also available with this camera. Definitely use NIMH rechargable batteries and invest in a larger smart media card as the 4mb included only holds 12 photos at highest resolution. Flash works great, have had no problems with red eye, and color is outstanding. Nothing in it's price range compares, . . . I feel like a genious in purchasing this camera.

Summary: Great Value, Good Pictures
Review: I bought my Fuji Finepix 1400 at [another store](it was the floor model, so it has a couple scratches on the case, but I can live with that). Pros: Good pictures, can be printed as 8x10s with slight pixelation (is that a word?), good color balance, nice features such as manual mode, macro, built in flash and durable lens cover, aesthetically pleasing appearance, Easy to use, FAST, 3x optical zoom, fun to use! light weight and compact, mine came with a free set of NiMH batteries and a charger-I'm not sure if all sets come with that, I was surprised that mine did, but a very welcome suprise...

Cons: LCD washes out in daylight, devours batteries (the alkalines it came with lasted less than 50 shots with the flash and LCD used most of the time), included 4MB card only takes 6 best quality 1280x960 res pictures-I'm going to upgrade to either a 32 or 64MB card, you don't have video out capability, but that's not important to me anyway. The pros certainly outweigh the cons however I read in another review that the USB drivers won't download on Windows ME. That isn't true. I'm running Windows ME on a Dell 4100 with a Pentium 3 and it works just fine.

I thoroughly researched before I bought this camera. I considered the Olympus D460 and D490 and the Finepix 2400. I liked the interface of the Olympus cameras better, but you can't beat the price I paid for the FP 1400--didn't even have to take my chances with an internet shopping site, price was my deciding factor, but the camera is superb. Highly recommended. If I had the money, I would have gotten the Olympus D490, but the Finepix is good for my uses as an alternative to photo albums.

Summary: This camera turned my family digital
Review: I bought my Fujifilm 1400...a year ago. It was the best purchase I ever made. It's easy to use, compact, and accesories are easy to find. The pictures are fantastic, I have to blow the pictures up to the point of ridiculous in order to see pixtels. when I call up a picture, it fills my SVGA screen in it's entirety with a crisp, clean photograph. It's memory cards (SmartMedia)are cheap & easy to find. Since I bought my camera, most of my family have bought digital cameras. And the others are planning to buy one.
