Summary: Help appreciated in locating the ARGUS DC3550 Model Digi-Cam
Review: Any help is most appreciated in locating the "ARGUS DC3550" digital camera for purchase...

I've heard a few great reviews of people that own it & compared it to the model DC3500 (that doesn't have optical zoom & additonal features). This would be my first digital cam & would love to get it for myself & as a gift for my mom by next weekend! Plz reach me by email: ... Thanks again to all that can help me out.

Summary: Good camera for the price
Review: Before you buy a digital camera - ask yourself two simple questions.
1. What will you use the camera for and how often will that be
2. How much are you willing to spend
Many times, the answers to 1 and 2 are not reconciled! Gosh I need that cool []camera but hey I got only [so much money].
OTher times, you can make a choice. I selected the DC3500 because it was in my budjet. One of my roommates had an older version of a digital camera by Argus and it seemed alright. This one is too...till now.
Here are the problems:
1. What you see is NOT what you get - i.e. the pictures are not seen properly in both the view finders (around 70% coverage at best).
2. Battery guzzler - and it uses 4 AAAs not 2 AAs - but rechargeable NiMhs solve this problem to a large extent.
3. Kind of slow compared to my rich friend's Sony!
If you think spending [a little more] is worth it then go on get yourself a Sony (the best I 've come across and no I am not from Japan!). But if you want something that takes good pictures and doesnt hurt the budget (I got a neat Dell Axim PDA for the difference I saved!) I think this is a good bet.

Summary: Bad warranty
Review: Check the warranty on this camera. Argus demands $$$$ be included when you return a defective camera in the fine print under the warranty. When you go to return a defective camera they increase the return to $$$. Not a good way to run a company. I would never buy an Argus product again.

Summary: Excellent Camera with Tons of Features
Review: First of all, this camera takes 4 AAA batteries, and those batteries are included.

Secondofall, it comes with a carrying case.

Also, it comes with a TV/VCR cord, which allows you to plug in your camera directly into the TV or VCR, and record your pictures on videotape. I don't think a lot of camera's have this function.

This camera is a good camera.

Summary: Don't even think about it!
Review: Hello everyone. I have been using this camera for close to 1 year. I think i can tell you all a bit about it.

Good:
1. It is very lightweight
2. It has a stylish front
3. When it every single setting is correct according to the environment you are in, it will take good shots. just good, not great.

Bad and Ugly:
1. battery life is so poor that it will leave you poor. Only about 18 shots per 4 AAA batteries.

2. Mediocre performance with photos

3. No optical zoom, digital zoom is no good!

4. tiny space for pictures. 8 at highest resoloution and a max of about 45 at very low resolution.

5. Hardly works with poular compact flash cards...only uses prpiretary ones. I tried sharing compact flash cards and it would not allow you to.

pverall it is a good camera is you want a fancy looking device. But for a digital camera, i rate it poorly.

Summary: So many battery's
Review: I agree that this is a very good camera, except for the battery drain. I have gone through so many battery's I had to invest in rechargables. They should really have an AC adapter come standard with the camera. I do like my camera, once you get the hang of the menu system and figure out if your camera is on or off it's easy to use. Does take very nice pictures. If you purcase this camera better get an AC adapter or rechargables as well.

Summary: Not even worth the CHEAP price...difficult!
Review: I am the type of person that can bargain hunt and get by on great deals, even if they are missing lots of features that most people think are "necessary"....I thought I could overcome the problems people stated in the reviews. I was wrong.

This camera makes lovely pictures. Evidently, the lens and the Sony ccd chip are quality. I have no complaints about image quality. However, the time, effort and frustration that it took to make the photographs caused me to return this camera after a week.

Most bothersome is that this camera has a terrible parallax problem, meaning what you see in the viewfinder is not accurate. I had a little bit of this problem with my Kodak dc-3200, but this problem with the Argus made the camera unusable. Heads, feet, tops of buildings...all cut off. I would say the viewfinder is only 60% accurate. Unacceptable amount of error in my opinion.

I have 4 digital cameras. I usually don't pay attention when people complain about battery life, b/c all digitals eat batteries. This camera, however, is the worst yet. I drained 4 Nimh rechargeables after 10 pictures, no flash. Terrible. When the batteries begin to drain, the camera powers off. (without warning.) It is often difficult to tell if the camera is off or on. I read that in other reviews and thought the authors were just techno-illiterate. No way..they are right on. You never know if the stupid thing is off or on. And the buttons on the back? Tiny, and impossible to tell if you have actually pushed them and the command was read. You can push and push, and finally, the button will do what it is supposed to do.

Final problem...it takes over 30 seconds to write each image to memory after shooting it. Extremely slow....makes your subjects insane, trying to stand still...and all the while, you don't know if you have framed the shot correctly, if the button is really pushed, or if the darned thing is even on.

Really, buy yourself the Kodak dc-3200 if you need a cheap digital. While the resolution is lower, it is a nice, reliable, user friendly camera. I could never recommend the Argus.

Summary: Argus 3550 ...Excellent Buy
Review: I bought the DC3550 at Office Max in a package deal with a photo printer and a flash card. I was pretty happy with my purchase until I had had it for 6 months. I had to return it, because it wasn't recognizing the flash card. They sent me back a new camera and everything was fine (minus the hassle and money it took to send it to them and the fact that they kept my rechargeable batteries) Now, three months later, the LCD screen is all messed up, the color is in streaks and the picture turns out full of lines and discolored, you can't even make out the objects.
I don't recommend this brand, it is way to much of a hassle to return and it has broken twice in 9 months. Hold on to your money.

Summary: Good Value in Small Package
Review: I got this camera with an Amazon.com Gift Certificate. This is a great starter camera. Easy to use. Easy to download pictures. The software that comes with it makes all pictures look clear and focused. Uses 4-AAA batteries, that you will be buying a lot of. Overall, a great buy for any digital camera looker. If you are looking for a nice camera, at a low price, look no further.
