Summary: Turntable REALLY IS [bad]
Review: I read these two online reviews on various websites, but I loved the look and concept of this system so much that I didn't listen. I bought it anyway, and sure enough, right in the middle of the song, the record stopped. You can't hear a complete song if you're listening to a 45. The record player sounds totally tinny and everything you play will sound hawaiian and twangy because the motor is so messed up. I was really mad because I wanted to like this thing, I really did. It looked like it was made for me, but looks can be decieving. I don't reccomend it AND the people at Polyconcepts didn't answer my questions. don't be like me, listen to these reviews, or else you'll get yours home and kick yourself every time you can only listen to half a song. It's a totally cute system, though alot bigger than I expected, and there isn't a tape player. For the price, it isn't worth it, and it's made in china, it's not really a philco.

Summary: Philco Bakelux Turntable problem
Review: Motor problems with Philco bakelux turntable. Speed is not accurate. Problem fix is to get a motor replacement or take the unit apart and give the motor a couple of shots of WD40. After having problems with 6 of these units I have decided to do my own fixing rather than sending the unit back to the Polyconcepts company.

Summary: Philco Bakelite-Replica Phonograph/CD Player
Review: Nice looking old fashioned player. The radio and CD player sound pretty good. The record player part of the unit is not good quality at all. I have a few problems to report. The quality of the turntable is not like the other philco models. The the tone arm is not the kind that returns itself to the post upon shutoff, it stays at the end of the record, the turntable stops but you have to return the arm to the post. Another problem is the record stops playing before the tonearm reaches the end of the record and the speed of the turntable fluxuates spinning faster and then slower. There are no adjustments to make to this unit and you have to be careful if you decide to bend the wire that controls the shutoff switch, that is if you want the unit to shut off after the entire song completes. The motor is mounted to the plastic with out rubber bushings so you can hear the motor noise. Also the sound quality when using the turntable is not as good as the CD or radio, there is no bass and it sounds tinny like a small transistor radio. I guess that's okay if you don't like good sound. I think this unit was built more for its looks. I was looking for a decent portable to play my good records on but I am a little disappointed with this units turntable... Other than that the CD and Radio sound decent.
