Summary: It's All About The Sound
Review: After two years -- it's still all about the sound for me.

Problems that I can and do deal with for the sake of the sound, I guess are typical:

1) Poor manual.
2) Too many features tied to the remote control (don't ever lose it or be without batteries), e.g., "Random" play.
3) Is it my imagination or are the CD drawers getting more and more flimsy on all players/recorders?

Could go on nitpicking about features but what piece of audio equipment ever got all the features, ergonomics, instructions, etc., right and delivered great sound?

Again, the CDR 2's sound is superior. Hope the latest incarnation (CDR-20 ??) matches up.

Summary: FINE PERFORMER
Review: Burning CDs in this machine is quite easy. Just read the instructions and you cant go wrong. The CDs sound just equal to the original. However, i am shocked with the quality sound of this machine in play back. It is a real huge improvement over my top rated X brand cd player.

Summary: So far, so....PERFECT!
Review: First of all, with Harmon/Kardon how can you go wrong! When I first pulled this sturdy unit out of the box, plugged it in, and watched as the CDR-2's classy display light up I knew I had purchased a beautiful, higher-end piece of equipment! The users-manual is easy to read and understand, with several different recording scenarios explained. For my first recording I copied an entire CD in DIGITAL, using the 2X DUB feature. The CDR-2 performed flawlessly and made a perfect copy, keeping in mind that the CD I copied was somewhat new and scratch/dirt free. I have yet to explore it's other features, such as it's DUAL-PLAY mode; playing 2 CD's simultaneously, which will be helpful to me as a recording musician. It has many options for recording outside sources digitally (and analog) with it's COAXIAL and OPTICAL in/out ports. I've purchased and returned a "lower-end" recorder before and was extremely disappointed. The Harmon/Kardon CDR-2 is one solid piece of technology in my book.

Summary: I just wanted to add my vote...
Review: I have owned this unit for about 5 years now, and that should be a testament if anything is. I'm sorry to see this is no longer available, so if you see a used one, by all means snatch it up. I've used this unit nearly every other day or so, and burned hundreds of CDRs on it, with only 2 rejects that I can remember. Only discs it can't copy are very badly scratched ones. And the versatility of being able to record ANYTHING, including FM broadcasts, older cassettes, talk, tracks from VHS tapes, makes it very hard to resist. It has been an extremely reliable & faithful machine over hundreds and hundreds of hours of service. Superb quality control.

Summary: help : question ???
Review: I love my CDR2, but recently when I record a disc and finalize it, I get bad distortion upon playback !! I know it's after finalizing cause it doesn't do it before (in tray 2) and after finalizing it plays back w/ distortion (in tray 2). So far it's not with high-speed dubbing but from multiple sources it does play back w/ nasty results. Can anybody help ? DMon B'ham,Al

Summary: I thought it was great!
Review: I only give this CD BURNER a 4 stars rating because there is no overeload warning and the directions are quite confusing. I still cannot find out how to mix different cd's into one. It is much better than the phillips one, and has really good quality. It is a bit expensive, so you may want to wait a while before getting one. I also suggest that you buy Many "Compact Disc Digital Audio Recordable" (CDDAR) cd's, NOT NOT NOT NOT "Compact Disc Digital Audio Re-Writeable" (CDDARW)or "Compact Disc Recordable or Re-Writeable". Also get a headphone converter to listen to your CD's in the Burner.

Summary: WOW! Harman kardon CDR2 is quality pure and simple
Review: I recently purchased the CDR2 and for the price,I have not found anything that I reviewed and researched that comes close to its quality. It took me 10 minutes to go through the manual and record from analog/digital sources. The sound quality outcome is crisp and of excellent quality. I use it to mix dance music records for broadcasting and I am extremely impressed with its sound quality. This unit is a gem. Cheers!

Summary: Harman/Kardon king of the road!
Review: I was the harman/kardon authorized dealer in kuwait until last year (1999), And nothing really goes wrong with harman. I,m using some equipment for my homeTheater such as thx receiver - 5 cd changer - casset. deck and also a power thx amp.And a AC-3 decoder. Still they'r running great after about 3 years , with no problem at all. Even in worst ventilation condition like using them non-stop for 24 hrs. I did test the set and it's great comparing it with phillips the double cd one . The dobbing was as the original cd . I know what is harman i,m sure that this one will be great also . last word for harman : thanks man you realy made our live easier and more fun by using your equipment.

Summary: Unbelievable!
Review: I've been in the market for a digital recorder, specifically a CD recorder for over a year. I initially was set to buy a Philips dual deck recorder, but luckily I didn't have the money together yet. Also, I wasn't too hot about it not having a traditional input level knob (instead it has "incremental"-type buttons). So when I heard by chance about the Harman Kardon, I was intrigued. 24-bit, 96khz convertors, 4x dub speed, great sound, ease of use. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that it has no overload indicator (I, too, use it for my own, and client, recordings). This thing is a god send, and is one of the best investments I've ever made.
