Summary: Does not work as advertised, Visioneer does not care
Review: I had this product two days before I packed it back up and returned it.

It did a reasonable job of scanning a contract and bank statements through the ADF, but I ran into trouble when I tried to use the FAX and PRINT buttons on the front panel. It could only pass a blank page to the Windows Fax software, even though I watched it scan all my pages. Visioneer tech support suggested installing the latest driver, but after that did not work, they essentially told me that was it, no other options. They tried to blame the problem on Windows, but the fact that I could only configure the PRINT button to print to my Canon inkjet, and not to my Samsung laser, led me to believe their software is crummy and unsupported. (I could configure it, but after scanning, nothing was sent to the print queue). I'm using pre-installed XP Home, fully upgraded and patched, and tested with the latest drivers from the Visioneer site.

I also tried to scan a 10-page document I had just printed on 24-lb, 84-bright laser paper. I guess that type of paper was too slick for the ADF, because in a dozen attempts, it would skew and jam on one of the pages. I could never get it to scan the whole stack without error. The feed roller only has one rubber tire in the middle, so I can see how things could go astray. Odd, because the bank statements and other documents were all wrinkled and full of staple holes.

Scan speed was slow (about 3 pages per minute) but if you are using the ADF it won't matter (unless you have to sit and watch it jam). It occasionally seemed to slow down because of activity on my PC, and some of the scans had some stretched text. I did not test whether the output could be OCR'd.

Do not expect Visioneer tech support (not a toll free call) to be helpful. The first support rep I spoke to seemed to only know one thing - install new drivers - and barely seemed interested in my description of the problems.

I needed a scanner with ADF for my business - as a mortgage broker I handle a lot of client documents and a flatbed is painful. After this experience I decided to look for a more robust product - not necessarily all the bells and whistles, but if it comes with any they should darn well work! I haven't got the time to mess around.

Not worth the time spent, in my opinion. Definitely do not order from anyone who does not have a decent return policy!
