Summary: An excellent product at an incredible price!
Review: I just got my scanner a few days ago, and it's incredible. It's my second scanner, and by far the best I've ever used. The CanoScan is quick and simple to operate, and offers an amazing software suite that I've only begun to explore. I've done several old photos, both black and white and color, and printed them out. Even enlarged, the photos came out crystal clear.

If you're in the market for a consumer grade scanner, this is the one I'd recommend.

Summary: Image quality suffers
Review: I loved how small and simple the scanner was, and not having supplementary power was a big bonus. But when I compared the images side by side with those from a Epson Perfection 640U, you could see a difference. The canoscan images were just a little less sharp and the image tone in black and white scans was a little warmer. Plus, the speed was significantly slower.

Summary: Great Scanner after I got the bugs worked out....
Review: I loved this scanner when I bought it. It's approximately the same size as a laptop! And it didn't require its own electrical outlet, it's powered through the USB cable. The installation of the software was a breeze, but I couldn't get it to work initially. After an exhaustive search of all documentation to find a fix for my problem, I had to call Canon. The tech got me up and running in two minutes. Turns out I had ColorSync disabled. The scanner is great...NOW, but a more robust error message, or troubleshooting/FAQ file would have been appreciated. The scanner is very impressive for the size and money when scanning photos & documents, but if you try to scan anything other than a picture or document, the scans will be out of focus and dark for parts of the object not directly touching the glass, I guess because the bulb isn't very bright. I like the scanner, but it's not as good at scanning "objects" as the full-size UMAX scanner I owned previously.

Summary: Great Scanner for the Price
Review: I purchased the scanner (...) from Amazon and am extremely pleased with the purchase. Considering the prices for similar units with the same specs - the CanoScan N650U is a clear bargain.

The only complaint I could think of, is the Arcsoft photo editing software that comes with the scanner. It's easy to use and learn, however I've experienced some crashes at a rate of once per 15 or 20 scans. Still, considering the price, ease of use, and other features,... this isn't really that great a problem (hey, the source of the problem maybe my Operating System!? ... nah)

Summary: Lot's Of Fun
Review: I recieved this scanner as a gift last Christmas and have not experienced any problems with it. Almost all of the scanning I do is photo's for the web to send to friends and family and this scanner has given me excellent results. Recently I purchased Photoshop Elements and have been scanning at higher resolution for editing purposes and the scanner has been perfect. I've never had or used a scanner before this so I can't compare it to any others but coming from a true beginner I would say that if you just want a fun scanner that's easy to use and produces great scans of photo's you'll love this one.

Summary: Great product
Review: I still can't believe this scanner. (...). This scanner is very very fast. It uses very little space. (...). If you are looking for a simple and reliable scanner, then this is the one. I have no complaints about it. I use it w/ Adobe Photoshop, it gets the job done for me. I use it for myself and family. I don't use it for serious work (...). If your considering, I'd say BUY IT, you can't go wrong.

Summary: Great flatbed scanner
Review: I was seriously considering buying a different scanner when a salesperson convinced me to consider the Canon N650U. I was not relishing having to buy a new scanner since it had taken me a while to get to know and understand the functions and operations of my previous scanner, but it was not working reliably anymore so I had no choice. Am I ever glad I happen to get a salesperson who had personal knowledge of how great the Canon is. It installed easily, and is extremely easy to use. I have an HP DeskJet printer and the scanner and printer work together without a hitch. It is very compact - another plus when space is a factor. I would highly recommend this scanner

Summary: Really Great quality, fast, overallI am inpressed
Review: Just bought this scanner to help me in my work as a web designer. I wasn't really sure about it, but thought, well, I will try it and see. Well, it gets top marks. The software was VERY easy to install, and it is great that is a USB device - because I travel with my laptop and this scanner is small enough to bring with me. Also, the scan speed was fantastic - much better than my expectations. It also comes with text recognition software - so you can scan a page and it will convert it to a text document. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds great.

Summary: My first scanner, and (I guess) it's pretty good
Review: Never having owned a scanner - and thus having nothing to compare it to - this scanner produces pretty decent results. I've only scanned a corporate brochure and some Boy Scout patches so far, and in both cases I was pleased with the result.

A heads up, though - installation of the software took me over an hour, as I tried to override the defaults and only install the necessary components (for instance, I already have Adobe Acrobat and a graphics editor installed and didn't want a 2nd version of each, etc.) Well, the installer didn't like that and threw a fit, so I had to uninstall everything and start over from scratch. Maybe it's me, maybe it's Canon - who knows.

Incidentally, this was on a PC - I also installed the software on my dad's iMac, and it went on without a hitch.

Once everything was up and running, scanning was very easy to learn and went quickly. I was really surprised at how quiet it was - it only makes noise when doing a "preview" scan (like an electronic whining, sounds sort of like a can opener). But when doing the actual, final scan, it's so quiet I was tempted to lift the lid to see if it was actually doing anything!

Scans look pretty good, but you need to do some trial and error with the settings to maximize the sharpness. No manual comes with this scanner - all documentation is on the installation CD-ROM.

Summary: Smalll Wonder
Review: Replaced an HP scanner that failed after 18 months of minimal use with this scanner. Very easy to install, relatively quick, and it just goes. Great scanner for the $$.
