Description:

The Agfa Snapscan e20 is an entry-level one-pass desktop scanner that uses advanced software to make scanning easy for new users. The Snapscan e20 automatically formats scanned images for e-mail, word processing, text conversion (OCR), Web pages, and image manipulation programs.

The Snapscan e20 comes with many applications. The software CDs contain clip art and templates to create photo greeting cards, invitations, and special effects for photos. Corel Print Office 2000 includes photo-editing tools, style templates, and support for digital cameras and scanners. Thus, it's easy to create impressive documents and Web pages. The Readiris multilingual optical character recognition (OCR) software allows users to convert hard-copy documents--originals, faxes, and photocopies--into editable text. Readiris also recognizes 55 languages. All software is provided in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Dutch.

The dual-platform Snapscan e20 is available for both Mac (OS 8 and higher) and PC (Windows 98 or 2000). The Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface is easy to connect to any computer. You do not have to adjust system settings, insert add-in cards, or reboot the system after connecting the scanner. The maximum scanning area is 8.5 by 11.7 inches. Preview speed is 14 seconds.

This very affordable scanner is housed in a white body with a choice of three snazzy colored handles for personal preference. It comes in translucent blueberry, translucent tangerine, or translucent graphite. The Snapscan e20 has a one-year warranty. --Linda Anderson
