Summary: There's better deals out there
Review: At first site, the CD player looks really cool. Also the skip protection on this thing is incredible. The supplied headphones are good quality. The bass boost is nice, but thats about the only good thing about the sound quality. The sound(even with another pair of headphones)is terrible. It is muffled like putting a pillow over a speaker and trying to listen to it. I was expecting a little more for 70 bucks. You could do a lot better than this. It's not worth it, even with the skip-protection! Anyway, maybe i just got a bad one, but it doesn't seem like it. I wouldn't be surprised if they're all that way.

Summary: great!
Review: I don't know what everyone is talking about, this cd player is very good. The sound quality on mine is excellent, without any bass, the music is a tiny bit dull, but it doesn't sound muffled or distorted with or without the bass on. Also, the anti-skip protection is the best i've ever seen, I run with this player and it has never skipped on me. This is the best cd player I've ever owned, of many, and i would recommend it to anyone. I don't know what anyone else is talking about, maybe they recieved faulty models. A slight downside however, after nearly a year of use, the headphones (which are also excellent) shorted out, but luckily I had a warranty and the whole cd player was immediatly replaced.

Summary: Excellent features and audio quality.
Review: I have had the Sony DEJ621 CD Walkman for 3 years now and it has given me many, many hours of listening pleasure in that time. Whilst not the smallest or compact of CD Walkman's, it is perfectly acceptable in size (unless fashion statements are important to you). It is quite pleasing to the eye, without being overstated in its design. Most of the controls are easily accessible and operate smoothly. One exception is the G- Protection button (used to reduce skips and drop outs if your Walkman is always on vigorous move). It's inconveniently located in the CD compartment, so if you need to turn it on, you must remove the CD. Opening the lid also causes the CD to start playing from the beginning. It is a small flaw in an otherwise excellent machine.

An excellent feature of this Walkman is the ability to program tracks in the order you want them. A shuffle and repeat feature also add value. With 2 levels of bass boost and an audible fast forward and rewind, this Walkman has very good features for the price. You also get Sony's excellent warranty coverage.

As for audio quality - I have no complaints. With G-Protection switched on, there is some loss of quality, but this a small trade off at being able to listen to your Walkman whilst doing even the most vigorous of movement. Even with G-Protection switch off you can smoothly move with Walkman without many drop outs. The quality of the audio not only depends on the Walkman, but also the headphones. So get yourself a good set of headphones and the audio quality will be excellent.

One small grip is the battery life. Ordinary batteries do not last long, so unless you get yourself rechargeable ones, a lot of money will be spent buying batteries. Even with the cheapest rechargeable battery set, you get many hours of listening before needing to recharge them.

The Sony DEJ621 is an excellent CD Walkman from an excellent company with a great set of features that are (mostly) easy to operate. What more could you ask for at this price point??

Highly recommended.

Summary: Sound Quality Not Acceptable
Review: I was looking for a better sound quality alternative to my RIO 500 MP3 player and thought buying a Sony product would be a no-brainer.

The CD player sounds worse than my mp3 player. Instruments are blurred, the sound in general is muffled. At first I thought Sony skimped on the headphones that shipped with the unit, but I've tried my high quality headphones (AKG 501), but it makes the unit suffer even more. It seems that the unit does not have enough gain to drive higher quality headphones and even my RIO is able to do a half way decent job with it.

I'm mainly listening to classical music and jazz which perhaps is too much to ask for on a portable unit, but even some of the rock I've tried sounded more like coming out of a radio than out of a CD player.
I'll return it tomorrow.

Summary: Unacceptable player
Review: It's unacceptable, because it costs twice as much as the DE350, and has much worse sound. I wish I had read the bad reviews for this player before I wasted so much money on this, because the negative reviews are precisely correct.

Specifically, the sound is comparatively dull and muddy, lacking in clarity and brilliance. While I personally don't beleive in bass boosting, if you try it all you will get is distortion.

I don't expect miracles from Walkman's, but I was actually surprised at how good the 350 sounded, especially for the price. I got this player expecting it would be even better, but it is definitely not. Of course I have yet to hear a Walkman that can handle classical music, there is not enough volume.

Very strange, I know, but I would urge anyone to save their money and get the much better DE350 for half the price. (Of course, it is heavier then the 621, and has less features).

Summary: skips 1st 2 seconds, poor sound
Review: My Walkman skips the first two seconds of any CD and the sound is weak and thin, inadequate richness in the midrange.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Low-Quality Player
Review: The sound on this thing is truly terrible. The default sound (without bass boost) is dull, with a lot of mid. Since this happens with a lot of portable players, I cranked up the bass - and recieved a rude surprise. The first setting of two, if anything, made the sound even duller than before. The second boost REALLY distorts the sound: the bass starts to hurt your ears, strangely enough, the treble gets augmented, and the mid just disappears. One plus is that the skip protection is nearly foolproof.
Bottom line: It's got awful sound, it feels cheaply made, and it's got awful sound.
