Summary: A functional cable for DV editing
Review: I bought this cable to use with my new Sony TRV730 digital camcorder so I could edit video on my PC. It works fine, is a cool translucent blue color ("iMac blue"), is nice and long, and costs half what most other 1394/Firewire cables cost.

Summary: great price, great cable
Review: I found similar firewire cables to sell for anywhere [for a range of prices]. This one is the most reasonably priced I've come across. ...the cable works great! It does kind of smell, however. Kind of a processed plastic sort of smell...

Summary: Didn't fit into my camcorder
Review: I give this item 1 star because it says it meets all IEEE-1394 specifications but the plug didn't fit into my JVC Camcorder. It might be that JVC wants me to buy their own firewire cable but I think this cable still should have worked.

Summary: Got a digital camcorder? You're gonna need this.
Review: If you've got a digital camcorder or a digital camera that uses a DV (digital video) port in lieu (or in addition to) USB/RCA... AND you've got a FireWire (IEEE 1394) compatible computer, this is a must-have. Most digital camcorders don't even ship with a 4-to-6 pin cable, and those that do usually only come w/ a 3-foot cable.

The extra length allows you to position your camera a distance away from your CPU... necessary if you have shrinking desktop real estate. The clear-blue insulation gives a great Mac-esque look.

Summary: why not less than one star?
Review: The first one of these I bought not only smelled, the vinyl was sticky and after washing several times it became apparent that this condition was not going to go away. Manufacturer replace with another cable that only smelled. This cable worked well for a couple of months and then 2 small parts on the 4pin end started falling off. Cable stilled worked as long as I could keep track of these parts and keep putting them back on. Eventually the cable smell diminished, but so did the functionality...

Summary: Funny, It Doesn't Smell Like Oranges . . .
Review: Works great and is a deal at [price]. The only gripe I have is that it stinks! I could smell the plastic insulation before I even opened the box from Amazon. An unpleasant acrid combination of rubber and some kind of chemical. Repeated washing in hot soapy water (not the end connectors!) and hanging it out in the sunlight for a week has markedly reduced the smell but it's still noticeable. Hopefully time will make this cable's smell as sweet as it's price.
