Summary: Im still glad I bought mine!!!
Review: ============================================================
I know you know what it can do so here are some downsides of the product:

1. Battery Life - LCD takes up lots of it, probably get 4-6 hours unless you keep it off the whole time and let ur MP3's play. I recommend that you set the screen to go blank as soon as it will let you set it to save battery energy. This is the only real reason why I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5.
2. Manufacturing Defects - Paint eventually chips in back (no biggie for me-yet) And the black rubbers on the corner aren't properly fastened to the device (of course you can just push them in a bit, but sometimes it bugs you).

Thats all that really bugs me.

Customer service is great if you have a little patience - I've already had to send my device in for a backlight repair (my fault) and it wasn't too much of a hassle.

The screen looks AMAZING for its size - don't worry about it.
Of course dust gets in there sometimes - just get a pressurized aircan and blow it out.

So overall you CANNOT take this thing to the beach (cuz of manufacturing) but its awesome for walking/siting around with.
How else can you get your daily Matrix?

Summary: Screen Stopped Functioning after 10 months
Review: Did even last a year. The screen stopped functioning after 10 months. It goes all white. I carried it around with me all over the place. I rode my bike with it and jogged with it but was always careful to keep if from getting bumped hard.

The Hard disk is fine ... it just the screen is "burning out" or something. I am going to try to get if fixed but it sounds like dealing with Archos support/tech is a royal pain.

This is a big disapointment to me.

I have transfered a lot of songs to the darn thing and now it is a paper weight on my desk.

When it worked I would give it 4 stars. It was great a transfering my photos from my CF card for storage on long vacations. It played lots of music.

The interface was funky and there was no way to play just the songs in a single directory and all that directories sub-directories randomly. To play Randomly you can play just one directory or all directories .. no option for one directory and it's subdirectories, so you can't setup like a Jazz tree with all your Jazz albums down below and then play all your Jazz songs randomly from all those albums.

I'm wondering if this device is really ready for primetime. It was a great idea but now I am out 300 bucks. That really really sucks big time.

Summary: High potenial, poor quality
Review: Fairly compact and highly versitile, the Archos Jukebox Multimedia promises a true multiple function video player, audio player, picture viewer, voice and audio recorder, and a portable USB hard drive. The audio output is excellent, and videos are surprisingly watchable on the small LCD screen. Unfortunately the user interface is minimal and navigation is rather simplistic. Large music collections require some minor extra work. The rechargeable internal lithium battery has about a 5-6 hour life and the inability to switch to disposable batteries or use another batter pack creates a minor inconvienience.

Physical construction is fair. Though stylistically acceptable, the unit and buttons are made of cheap plastic and metal. Design of button and port layout is simplistic and far from ergonomic.

All in all, the unit would be an economical and worthwile purchase given its flexibility and ample storage space. Unfortunately, the quality of construction can be poor and the units tempermental. Archos support is generally slow, and once reached, often unhelpfull. "Update your firmware" is a common blanket response, but when the complaint is "the unit won't turn on" (and even after mentioning the update was previously done), the quality of support is highly questionable. Its a bit of a risk, but if your unit is good, then you're golden!

Summary: Does what it says
Review: For the price I think this is an amazing device. I love having all of my music at my fingertips and my entire digital photo archive as well. Battery life is a bit short, but expected since they must drive a hard disk.

I had some trouble on my older 450 MHz machine, but everything worked great on my newer 2.0 GHz machine including the screaming fast USB 2.0 cable that comes with the device.

No comment on tech support since I have not needed it yet.

Summary: ARCHOS MULTOMEDIA JUKEBOX
Review: Great idea but sadly lacks battery power I have found mine discharges very quickly and does even hold the charge when not in use-- normally has discharged overnight .

Would definately not last a full movie and approx 3 hours when playing MP3 files.

The AVI files looks great on the small LCD but when displayed back thro a TV they show lots of blocks and the pictures have a purple cast.

Summary: Great Product !!!! Perfect !
Review: I brought this product from bestbuy outlet with everything include the camera, for lke 100 less then amazon sell, don't buy from amazon, it cost too much here, I do respect most amazon product are cheap compare to most but not this one, product overall is great !, music and pictureis good and ez just drag in, but video boy, take a wonder to convert those to the play to work, the free software is useless for convert go get avs video conerter, that work best and remaind much its origial size. camera is horrible i admit, only picture quality is very basic 1.1 mega, but video just horrible, with no light, had many problem with color, sound is hard to record it. head phones is pretty good, has volume control which is pretty rare, kinda comfort, look cool, is not that bad as other revieer said. Overall it is worth for the price, if u rich u might wanna get the new version of this.

Summary: the most bang for your buck
Review: I got this bad boy for Christmas and it is by far my favorite computer peripheral device. Do yourself a favor if you get one of these and add a firewire or usb 2.0 card to your computer. If you don't and you have a lot of data to transfer, be prepared to wait awhile...the 12 mb/s of usb 1.1 is SLOOOOW.

The sound quality is awesome with this device, and the video output of properly encoded material is outstanding. For it to ALSO act as a 20 gig hard drive makes sure that this product stands head and shoulders above the rest of the pack.

If you really want one of these, do a little searching on the internet...it'll be worth your time.

Summary: Good French product
Review: I have tried out almost every conceivable large capicity MP3 player out. Hands down, for price, value, look, and durability, the Nomad Zen has it.

Here's my breakdown.

Nomdad Zen

Looks nice and from an American company, Creative Labs. Its easy to use interface, great sound, slightly smaller than the archos and a bit bigger than the Ipod.

Built in battery but dies after 2 years or so. No problem, according to the Creative Labs website. They'll replace it at no charge when it dies. And yes it has shuffle and such an easy to use playlist, including a LCD screen remote -- how cool! Battery life is pretty good too.

I found the Zen to be a superb overall value.

IPod

A great looking player built by an American company, Apple. The Windows interface is *okay*. The ipod is the smallest, and it has a built in battery, which when it dies, the Ipod is useless. Too expensive for a disposable MP3 player. Decent sound.

Archos Jukebox

A lot of features, looks strange, and a bit heavy from the French Company, Archos. Who needs a 1.5 screen to view multimedia -- a useless feature IMO. To change the volume, you have to go through a series of buttons. Why? Ridiculous. However the Windows interface is the best out of them all; just drag and drop in Windows Explorer. Sound is okay, it sounds flat.

Net MD

This is the Sony MiniDisc player from the Japanese giant, Sony. I tried out the N707 and N1. They're small, great battery life, and they look great. Minidiscs are cheap and they hold 80 minutes of music plus data. Minidiscs are about a dollar a piece, but can only hold 169 MB of data -- its major drawback. You have to use Real Player with the Sony MD plugin to bypass the stupid anti-piracy software Sony included. I own over 750 CDs, and it made it impossible to make discs of my favorite songs if one song was on more than one minidisc. To get around it, I used the RealOne player from RealNetworks. Price, a bit expensive for low capacity. But they are by far the smallest and look the coolest.
