Summary: Good service from Viking
Review: My compliments to Viking for their customer service on a card I had to return because of errors. Viking emailed the RMA# an hour after I submitted the request. The replacement card arrived a week later. That's good service.

With regards to the original card, it gave out at around 7000 shots (Canon S10 and G3) and 19 months of use.

Summary: Go with SanDisk
Review: And save money. I bought exactly the same Viking from Amazon.com one year ago, it worked flawlessly for about ten months, now I can take some pictures, but not all are read by USB card reader or even the camera itself. Reformatting didn't help. Have 256 meg SanDisk card - no issues so far, athough initially I bought it just because it was cheaper.

Summary: How many pictures will it store?
Review: How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about. Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The Viking CF256M 256MB CompactFlash Card, like most 256MB cards, will store on average 284 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 213 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera, 128 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 102 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 80 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this card is the right capacity for your specific needs.

Summary: worked for a while
Review: I bought this card to go with my Nikon 4300. It worked fine for about 6 months. Now, although I can continue to take photos, I can't get them off the card my any means. PC can't read or even format the card.

Don't waste your money here!

As an update, I went to the Viking website and noted that they have a 5 year warranty. It was very easy to return, and Viking sent me a new one within a few weeks. So far, so good...

Summary: great bargain when rebated
Review: Using with Coolpix 995, have not had the problems described by others with older Coolpix models. There is some slowness in initially accessing the card when turning the camera on, but no more than I've noticed with other comparable cards. The price on this can't be beat (...).I've been pleased with the number of high resolution images I've been able to store with this card, having purchased a couple makes life easier while traveling, no need to constantly download images.

Summary: Best value for the price
Review: This card works perfectly with canon s410 digital camera. The speed is good enough for most applications and the transfer speed is pretty decent when using a card reader. Nothing to complain about.

Summary: Cheap but slow
Review: I bought this six weeks ago and was very happy with the price, which has fallen since then. (...) Best Buy for a 256MB CF card. You just can't argue with that. Where I'm less satisfied is the speed. My Canon Digial Ixus (sold as Elph in the US) takes longer to start up than it did with my old card, and takes over a second to save the photo. That's not long, but it's too long to show that photo in the LCD screen unless I manually go back and look at it. I would guess this would be a poor choice for someone with a high-end SLR looking to take rapid series of photos. So I would give this card 3 stars for being a perfectly functional but mediocre product(...).
