Rating: Summary: Hasty decisions Review: First, the service:
Around August of 04 I finally convinced my mom to let me get a phone. I had seen this phone 3-4 months before in a mall in Texas, I loved it. It just looked cool, a chick magnet if you will. I also liked the Virgin Mobile setup with the top-up cards because there were no contracts. This was supposed to be an emergency only phone which is the only scenario in which I would recommend this phone. IF YOU TALK ALOT DO NOT GET VIRGIN MOBILE!! I bought it without a second thought about it. Never again...
It was fine at first. Other than the occasional incoming/outgoing call it was never used. About a month later my first top-up card was spent. I got another one and decided that I didn't like having an "emergency only phone." My second card went in about a week and a half. The money goes way too fast compared to other companies. The only difference is you can quit without paying a fee, which I plan on doing soon.
Now to review the actual phone. I was rather upset when I found the same phone for some $100 cheaper without MTV. A pretty cool thing to have but something I rarely use. The Virgin Extras are pretty much the MTV function but its free to access. The sliding feature is cool but the exterior screen is vulnerable to scratches and cracks. I've tried but there's always more damage to the screen every time I pull it out of my pocket. The keys are small which isn't a huge hassle unless you're playing one of the games. The speaker is rather nice and the polyphonic ringtones are loud and clear. The one touch vibrate or silent is good if you have to convert it in class or somewhere where it's best not seen. The text messaging is easy after getting used to it. There's a couple different text options so you can choose whichever suits you best. I'd say there's about a 30 minute learning curve.
Thats about it. If MTV sounds like something useful to you and you have a big wallet then I recommend this phone for you but if MTV isn't really something you're after than find the much cheaper version.
Rating: Summary: I already had a phone but I wanted this one so bad!!! Review: I had originally went to Virgin Mobile and purchased the VOX8610 and I loved it. It was the first real cell phone I had ever owned so ofcourse anything would do. About two months after I bought it I heard of the Slider phone and I couldn't wait to get my hands on one. <br /> Due to my birthday recently, I could afford to buy the slider. I have had it for three weeks now and I love it. I still can't say which phone (the VOX8610 or the SLider) I would raather use. I love them both. The only thing with the slider is the keys are a bit to small, and I have small fingers. <br /> It's kinda funny because I have butterfingers and my friend told me that I would break it in two weeks. I did, but I wasn't at fault!! The battery died on me. I went onto the VM website and saw that they are having recall for the SLider and Rave batteries purchsed within 120 days and activated. So go to www.virginmobile.com and check to see if your battery is on recall.<br /><br /> Love ya all lots (especially the hott guys)<br /> ~Brynn~

You can choose your own ringtone(All of which sound awesome)and play cool games. The games are like includes Tetris, a version of Blackjack, and much more! (No more of those stupid black and white games)The phone can have screen saver and a background and even make clear calls. Believe me! This is worth $130!! :)
Rating: Summary: Never been this excited over a phone! Review: After over a two-year commitment with AT&T, I was drained and unhappy and I was wary about making another commitment with another service provider. So I decided to shop around for options and I was beginning to warm up to the idea of pre-paid service. But let's face it, most pre-paid phones look... well, pre-paid. They're hardly flattering at all. Then I came across the Kyocera Slider on Virgin Mobile's site and after skimming through the features, I found it hard to believe it's pre-paid! I was instantly hooked and ordered for one right away. The phone's design is very stylish and cool, I've gotten a lot of looks with it and people have a hard time believing that it's pre-paid. I have to say, I have no regrets! I've never been this excited over a phone, especially when it's a downgrade from my last phone. I had a Sony Ericsson T616 with a camera and all the bells and whistles but I have to say, I actually like the Slider better! I admit, it took some getting use to. The screen doesn't compare to the crisp and clarity of a $300 phone but after a while, it grows on you. The keypad layout was a challenge at first and I found the tiny little "Back" button awkward and hard to use. Being left-handed didn't help much either. This is a great phone though and I can't stop raving about it! There are actually features on this phone that I haven't seen on high-end phones. You can even set the phone to Airplane Mode, which disables your phone's signal during take-off without turning your phone off completely. It comes with Tetris, how awesome is that? There's a Tip Calculator aside from a regular calculator, scheduler, an advanced address book and lots of other stuff. My only qualms is that the built-in wallpapers aren't exactly to my taste and I still haven't figured out where I can go to download new ones, if that's at all possible. But aside from that, the Slider's functionality competely won me over. Battery life is amazing for a color-screen phone, both talk-time and standby. And because Virgin Mobile utilizes the Sprint PCS all-digital network, I actually have much better signal with this phone than I ever did with any phone on AT&T. I highly-recommend this phone to anyone, especially people who are looking for a cool and stylish phone yet cautious about plans and contracts. Virgin Mobile has a very friendly and comprehensive service: no fine prints on selling your soul, giving up your first born or any of that hoopla. The phone is all yours, and you only pay for the time you use.
Rating: Summary: After reading Review: After reading just one review, I want this phone really bad and looks like it worth getting. It a lot better than getting a high celler phone bill and not knowing why are being charge so much. I wish the company who makes this phone also put out in colors, if it does not have long disantis on, it should right way.
Rating: Summary: Wow! I really liked it Review: After reading the reviews on Amazon, I signed up. I am not a hipster, so I don't use the MTV download features. What I like about it is that it is so easy to use, so easy to access all the features like contacts, text messaging, and all the phone customization features: ring tone, color schemes, volume settings, etc. It also has games and appointments which I haven't yet tried. I want my daughter to get one, too. Why pay $40/month for service you don't use. Pay per call is simple to understand and reasonable. Overall, a great product compared to the competition. And the coverage is great, too.
Rating: Summary: Sexy... but try before you buy Review: All I did was go to US Cellular to test the phone before I bought it (I've been researching pre-paid plans). The phone opened easily with my thumb, but the buttons are so small I couldn't navigate well at all. Also, keep in mind that the numbered buttons are flat against the plastic. I found it very difficult to type/dial by feel. The calendar function was not up to par either. It was very difficult to navigate and enter data. I wish I could give you the most imporant "signal strength" opinion but I did not buy the phone. I'm going to wait for a second version to come out that will hopefully have these issues fixed.
Rating: Summary: HEALTH RISKS OF THE SLIDER Review: ALTHOUGH I FIND THIS PHONE VERY ATTRACTIVE & EASIER TO OPERATE WITH ONE HAND THAN MY VOX 8500. I WILL NEITHER PURCHACE IT OR RECOMMEND IT, DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT HAS AN ANTENNA THAT MAY NOT BE EXTENDED. THIS ALLOWS THE SIGNAL TO BE SENT FROM JUST BEHIND THE EAR WITH THE POTENTIAL TO INCREASE ONES CHANCES OF DEVELOPING A CANCER. I HAVE SEEN FOLKS USING THEIR PHONE WHILE IT WAS MOUNTED ON THEIR CARS DASH, SITTING ON A SURFACE AWAY FROM THE BODY OR BEING CARRIED IN THE HAND AWAY FROM THE HEAD & BODY. I SUPPOSE I COULD RECOMMEND IT IF IT WERE TO BE USED AS DISCRIBED.
Rating: Summary: Not just for teens Review: Although Virgin is marketing this phone for teenagers, it can be a great alternative for light-usage adults who live in a major metropolitan area. Unlike other reviewers though, I find the MTV stuff pretty unobtrusive and not at all a problem. I have a private line at work and a land line at home, and when I go out, I don't much care to chat on the phone while at a club or restaurant -- so I just don't use a cell phone all that much. Nonetheless, I do like the security and convenience for emergencies and for short calls. I was paying AT&T $35 a month, and using about 25 minutes -- which works out to a $1.40 a minute. With Virgin Mobile, I'm saving over $300 a year -- not a fortune, sure, but better in my pocket than in AT&T's. As for the phone itself, I prefer its functionality to my old Motorola v60. It's easy to use, and reception is great in the areas I frequent. Some of the features I didn't think I'd use, such as the games (Tetris - yay!) and downloadable ringtones are actually fun. (Surprisingly, the MTV ringtone library includes tunes from Beatles, U-2, Sinatra and even Cab Calloway's 1930 hit "Minnie the Moocher," -- so there's something there for everyone.) Two quibbles: First, although I learned to hate my old Motorola, I did love its brushed aluminum case -- real metal, not metalized plastic like the Slider. For $159 list price, Kyocera could give us real metal. (A $2 box of Altoids has a metal case, so how expensive can that be?) Secondly, I do wish that Virgin would sign a roaming agreement for the rare times when I venture out of Sprint's coverage area. I wouldn't mind paying even a hefty surcharge for those infrequent trips just so I could make and receive urgent communications. Taking all this into consideration, my real rating for this phone/service plan would be four-and-a-half stars if Amazon permitted that. But on the whole, I'm so pleased that I'd rather round up than down.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Design -- Great Execution Review: Being an Apple user, design of a product is important to me. This phone not only works beautifully, but it looks, too. I got this yesterday (Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003) and I haven't been able to put it down since. I've been with Virgin for about a year, and I bought this from Circuit City to replace my old 'Party Animal' -- Kyocera 2119b, which was feelin' its age. The colour screen is amazing, and I get really good 'shock' factor from it -- everyone wants to hold it! And hear it, considering its MIDI tones and sounds. As for service, I had Sprint before Virgin, and it worked fine for me, but I don't get service in my school, which has to do with the campus itself. (Our system is SO backwards!) Thanks Virgin Mobile/Kyocera for giving us a blast again! - My 'Party Animal' is going to my friend, for those who were wondering. ; )
