Rating: Summary: Slick, small, easy-to-use and reliable phone! Review: Overall I'm very satisfied with this phone and the service in my area. This phone is very compact and light. The screen has a very neat resolution. I found this phone very easy to use and intuitive. The speaker can be quite loud if necessary and the microphone seems to work well (at least I haven't had any complaints on the other end of the call). It comes with vibrating alert and silence mode (though I guess this is pretty standard in most phones nowadays) and other standard neat features: ring tones, WAP browser, Java games, AOL messenger capabilities. The best above all is that you can get this $150 retail value phone for FREE when signing for a year contract (at the time of this writing). There are only a few complaints I have about this phone: there are confirmation messages after applying some of the phone features which block the phone for about 3-5 seconds, e.g. "Keypad Active" after unlocking the keypad. Additionally when the phone is turned on, it takes about a minute to initialize the phone book, so you can't access your phone list to dial a number during this time. Having owned a Motorola in the past, I was used to have the send button on the right side of the phone, this phone buttons are positioned the other way around, so it took me a while to get used to it, although I'm not sure which layout is more standard nowadays. In terms of battery life, I find it reasonable, although I've experienced slightly shorter life than the one it claims to have. In terms of accessories the phone only comes with the standard wall charger and a hands free headset which also has good audio quality. I recommend getting the leather case from Samsung (you can get a 20% discount if you register your phone with them).
Rating: Summary: Good solid phone, could use some user interface improvements Review: First, the important stuff: This is a good quality phone, with good reception, solidly built, and, AFAICT great battery life. It's compact and light and has a nice look and feel. The color LCD is nifty, but very difficult to see outdoors. There are 2 'menu style' options for the UI. The default 'Page Style' is toyish and I found it annoying. I found 'Bar Style' more tolerable and easier to read. The wallpaper animations are annoying. Still, it's not that bad and the phone is generally pleasant to use, save 2 annoyances: 1) It's not easy enough to scroll through past calls -- you need to go to the Menu, then select Missed, Incoming, or Outgoing Calls. I find the segregation needless and miss my old Qualcomm that had a scrollwheel dedicated to scrolling phone numbers, no buttons or menus necessary. 2) Every time you get a voice mail message, you also get a text message telling you you have a voice mail message. This is unnecessary and annoying -- although I suppose this is the fault of T-Mobile, not the phone. It does however take 6 clicks (of the same button at least) to delete these text messages, and the 'you have mail icon' doesn't go away until you listen to your message and clear the text notification.
Rating: Summary: Ok, this is cool Review: Finally got all my ringtones loaded on it using http://muwap.com. They even give people 10% off if they use coupon-code "amazon" -- best deal in town, especially when you use it with such a cool phone.
Rating: Summary: could use work, still great Review: I don't understand the recent fascination with flip phones. I prefer standard cell phones like Nokias. Thanks to Sam Sung, I found a good quality phone I can definitely rely on! I am a Korean myself so you may think my review is biased. Think again! The phone should not be distributed by T-Mobile. T-Mobile is infamous for having bad reception in different areas. I can clearly see the reception difference with my previous provider (Verizon) and T-Mobile. T-Mobile has these tendecies to fluctuate. Verizon did not have that. As a result, the phone seems to have bad reception. It's not the phones fault. It's T-Mobiles. The phone doesnt drain battery trying to get a signal. I find that VERRRRRY nice. My previous phone used massive amount s of battery life to obtain the full bar reception. I left my Samsung X105 on for 3 days and it had full battery. I read previous reviews and I agree with many of them. It is tedious to see your incoming/outgoing/missed calls. Takes about 5 buttons to push when it SHOULD be done in about 2 or 3. In addition, everytime you change a setting you get this annoying pop-up screen like you do on the internet. The screen is very clear in my opinion. It is difficult to see in the day, but you adjust to it. The phone is bright and luminous (better than my reading lamp). Another bad quality to the phone is checking your voicemail. It does not require a password. I just had my phone stolen recently and the voicemail settings were changed instantly. Your phone calls itself basically and the menu for voicemail automatically comes out. Very risky move. Besides the fews cons I mentioned, the phone is great. If theres reception problems or mic problems..it's T-Mobile.
Rating: Summary: They gotta give you money to take this phone... Review: ...and now they do. I wouldn't have spent $50 or $100 or whatever it was on this phone, but if you want a small, robust phone and you get over $100 back in cash -- that's well worth it. It's not a super-gadget, but it does what it needs to, and I found a link to http://muwap.com here on amazon (with the 10% off coupon) and downloaded all ringers I needed. I'd "buy" the phone again in a heartbeat.
Rating: Summary: Great at night Review: I've had the phone for about 3 months now. It's exceedingly well built. The battery life is very good. The phone is put together like a German sedan. The voice volume is great and easily adjustable while one is talking. I do get a low-volume hiss in the background of all calls when connected. I didn't have this with my other phone on the same plan. I agree with the other reviewers about the long delay when going through the menu. The keypad is small and the keys are close together so you have to be careful when dialing. I don't text message much but this could be a problem with large hands. The screen is colorful if you are into that sort of thing but the trade-off is that if you are outside in the sun, the screen is impossible to read. My last phone was black and white and that could easily be read outside in the full sun. Why would anyone want a color screen if you can't read it outdoors? Who cares about seeing some tropical fish floating across the screen if you can't even read a phone number? Unfortunately it seems like the engineers are designing phones for teenagers. Another extremely irritating feature is the ring tones. There are no normal ring tones (beeps, rings, etc.). The only choices are songs. I don't want a song. I was told that I could download a different ring tone for a couple of bucks from the web site but guess what, although I could get all the Brittany and 50 Cent songs I want, there are no rings on line either. This must be some sort of joke that T-Mobile and Samsung are playing on us. It's embarrassing to have a phone play the "Cat Rumba" in a work environment.
Rating: Summary: Great phone! Review: Overall, I'm very happy with this phone. It's small and lightweight, easy to use, and the color screen is very vibrant. There are a couple of things I don't like, and the biggest thing is the fact that it takes about a minute after the phone is turned on for the phone book to initialize, which means you can't access your phone book AT ALL during that time. Also, it would be nice if the phone came in colors other than blue. I ordered a pink faceplaye off of e-bay, but it looks like it's going to be a real pain to install it.
Rating: Summary: Great small phone! Review: I needed a small tiny phone that is easy to carry around and this fits my requirements just right! The reception is also wonderful and several times better than my older phone. I used to have a TMobile Sidekick and that was just a huge brick. Furthermore, reception on that brick was typically horrible. The screen on this tiny phone is big and marvelous. I really like the fact that each function page has an animated graphics. And since I will be using this phone oversea, I will also be able to use it while traveling. With TMobile's flexibility to unlock the phone so I could use other SIM, this is really a great feature. The only negatives that I have, which lead to the 4-star only rating, is that the battery life is just a little less than advertised. Also there's no profile feature like the Nokia phones. Overall, I am extremely happy with this phone.
Rating: Summary: I wish I never bought this phone Review: I bought this phone because I wanted something different from the Nokia. I guess I should have stuck with what I knew best because this phone sucks. I through to any phone calls, I call someone and before there phone rings, my phone hangs up. I call up T-Mobile to complain and all they tell me is they can give me another one...NO THANKS!!! I'll go back to the Nokia phone, no more Samsung phone products for me.
Rating: Summary: Worthy Successor to R225 Review: As the earpiece jack was becoming unreliable and the battery was beginning to go, it was time to replace my R225, which had been pretty satisfactory. My expectations of a cell phone are modest. I want it to be a reliable cell phone with a clear connection, not a web browser. The X105 is a good upgrade which also allows me to continue to use the same leather case and car and travel chargers as the R225. Two clear advantages are the battery life, which is much better, and the absence of an external antenna. As has been observed by others, the phone book takes an unconscionably long time to initialize (a minute or two - much longer than the R225, which took about 15 seconds), and the screen is difficult to read when not illuminated (and in bright light). I've also had to adjust to punching the send button twice to initiate a call from a phonebook entry. In general, I must say that I am impressed with Samsung quality, and I took the opportunity (as long as I had to extend my contract for a year) to upgrade my plan. I now have free nights in addition to weekends and 1,000 prime time minutes for $39.99.
