Summary: overall pretty good, could use some improvements though
Review: I originally purchased this cellphone as a gift to myself and sort of a convienency so I could have some privacy.

Pros

I'm overall impressed by the unique design of the phone itself, the whole point of the "slider" sliding and such.

The color is definetly a plus, my friend has a audiovox 8500 and without color it just seems so bland.

I have a prepaid virgin mobile service on the phone and the customer service is definetly one of the best I've seen ever.

The navigation takes about a few hours to a day to get used to, depending on how quick you are at learning, but once you get the hang of it, it turns out to be simple and quick.

Cons

The keypad is a bit cramped, especially the back button itself.

Signal strength with virgin mobile that uses the sprint pcs service isn't really that great, no matter how much signal strength is in your area.

The phone case itself provided by virginmobile or by kyocera is tight, not as in good, but as in tight jeans on a fat person (no offense). The design uses a magnetic button to close and you'll have to pull on the strap a little before it closes properly and easily becomes dislodged.

Overall it's a pretty good phone, would like to see some improvements though, I recommend this phone for users whom don't use a lot of minutes, a few minutes there, a few minutes there.

Summary: A VERY COOL PHONE
Review: I got this phone a week ago at best buy, although I was originally going to get it at amazon.com (it's cheaper here), but I was in the store and looking at the phone already convinces you of what a great phone it is, and reading about it makes it even better. It's a small, very nice and easy to use phone, I never read manuals, just start pressing buttons. The process to activate it is slow, and takes 1-2 days, but I really don't mind, it's a great phone, great service, great deal.
Pros:

Color Screen
Sleek, very modern design
Vibrator
Auto Noise and volume system
Easy to use scrolls
Downloadable ring tones, voice mail, etc
Text messages
Email capability (yournumber@vmobile.com)
Games, Calculator, Storage, Contacts, Alarm, Date, Time
Cool looking
Speaker
Cons:
Screen is very delicate
I really can't find any neagtives for this awesome cell phone

Summary: Great phone with a few small setbacks
Review: This is a great phone.

It's got some nice basic PDA functions (schecule keeping, calculators, etc.) for people who do not wish to spend extra money on an actual PDA.

The games are decent (Tetris is always good) but I haven't been able to find any downloadable games at this time.

I'm not sure how to access the wireless web aside from the *MTV and VirginXtras pages (though I've read that it CAN be done) but I'll keep trying.

The only REAL complaint I have with the phone is the antenna. When I was pushing the antenna down (three days after purchase) the cap popped off (the large piece that keeps the antenna from getting stuck inside of the phone) and the antenna got stuck inside of the phone. The cap did not BREAK off but became detatched which is strange because I figured that the whole antenna (cap and all) would be one piece.

Overall this phone is very cool and I will enjoy it once I can replace my broken one :)

Summary: virgin mobile delivers...
Review: The slider V5 by virgin mobile delivers a convenient alternative to contracts, hidden fees, activation fees, taxes, surcharges, and other hassles contracts present. The phone is thorough and comes complete with voicemail, speakerphone, voice activated dialing, a great color lcd screen with great resolution. Not to mention 4 games(tetris, race 21,brick attack, and doodler) for those long trips. The phone really comes in handy if you are a vivid MTV watcher or a teenager with online mtv extras like game s online voting and MTV's version of paper rock scissors. The reception is fair game running through the sprint network. Also included are your fully functional calculator, stop watch, tip calclator,(very useful indeed)voice memo, and a scheduler. As far as looks and appeal this phone ROCKS! Sliding the screen upwards reveals the hidden keypad and gives the phone a "matrix" type of feel to it and is sure to grab attention in comparison to the traditional "flip" phone. There are rumored to be over 10,000 ring tones with some of todays hottest artists. To round out and complete the package there are lots of screen savers and wallpapers. The best surprise of all and the best attribute of this phone by kyocera is the pricing of $159 dollars. You can find it at best buy with a 20 dollar instant rebate getting it a bit lower to $139. That is outstanding for a phone of this calibur (color screen, speakerphone, internet access etc). All virgin mobile asks is that you add airtime (top up) every 90 days to keep your phone activated. But dont take it from me, get out there and experience true freedom.....in style.

Summary: Incredible!
Review: I bought this phone at bestbuy last night after hearing about it on Virgin Mobile's website. I learned about Virgin's incredible pay-as-you-go deal on one of the articles on MSN, where they compared it against cingular and other pay-as-you-go providers.

I was amazed at what virgin had to offer and have decided to get the "vox 8500" flip phone, but when I saw this phone was going to be available soon, I opted to wait a little bit longer. I checked out the reviews on circuit city's site and went to inspect the model phone myself. It wasn't available that night so the next day I went and got it from best buy. I had to ask for it tho because it wasn't on any of their display cases. I guess they figured it was too good to be out in the open and disuade buyers from buying the other phones with plans.

The set-up was easy, they partially charged the battery so you can program it the moment you opened the package, which I think is a big plus especially for people like me who just can't wait for a phone to charge before you can use it. I actually bought this for my wife but I have to admit that I was more excited to fiddle with it! Activation couldn't be simpler and after less than 2 hours the phone was ready for use! It was simple to operate and the big full color screen with the help of the cursor key is very user friendly. I would glance at the user manual every now and then if I couldn't figure it out but most of the set-up commands and other preference settings was simple enough for you to find your way around.

Voicemail had to be set-up from the cellphone by calling your own voicemail box. You have to do this the first time you set-up the voicemail feature of your phone which meant 3 minutes of wasted usage! but I guess it's worth it because once you've set it you can retrieve your voicemail from your home, office or any phone anyway which makes retrieval free! and since you don't have to use your phone to get to them no minutes are taken away from your precious pre-paid minutes!

This phone have wallpapers, screensavers, exciting ringtones, vibrate alert and speaker phone function! YES it acts as a speakerphone ! lay it flat on it's back press the speaker phone button and hear your friends talk without putting it next to your ear! how cool is that! plus loads more of options and funcions.

I like the fact that it has a scheduler (it's like a mini PDA) and I also like the way it stores numbers... you can asign a ringtone and an animated icon to a phone number, it lets you classify them as being personal, business or "other" friends allowing you to group and distinguish who is calling! you can also asign an icon to tell if it's a home, cell or pager number! so you don't need to put "cathy cell" all you have to put it "Cathy" and put a cellphone icon next to it. put "Cathy" next to a house icon and that means that the number stored is her home number!

It also has this GPS locator which helps 911 or virgin mobile locate you incase of emergencies.

Other features I've tried is the calculator, the "tip" calculator (for spliting lunch w/ friends), the stop watch, the timer and a few games. There's way too many functions on this little gadget to cover them all in one day. All I have to do now is teach my wife how to use it!

This is one Incredible phone and Virgin's exceptional service only adds more flavor to this sweet deal! (they actually have live people who can talk to you in less than a minute of wait time)

I strongly recommend this phone, but then again DON'T buy it ! that way I'll ... I mean only my wife will get to have the coolest phone !

Review: Hey this phone is the best ever!!!!!! i love it haha

Summary: OK Phone- With some major drawbacks
Review: I was initialy happy when I purchased this phone last November. But my opinion has changed. I'm sure you have read enough glowing reviews so I'd like to list some negative points.

Lets start with the biggest drawback; The ringtone volume is too low! I drive a truck for a living and on its highest setting I still can't hear it while I'm driving, some ring-tones are barely audible even when I'm not in a noisy atmosphere.

So this brings me to the vibration feature, If the phone is not directly up aganst your skin you can't feel it. Low volume and a weak vibration = missed calls. This to me, is the reason I am looking for a new phone. Also, the vibration feature stopped working all together, so that meant sending it back to Virgin for a new phone and unfortunatly all my contacts and downloaded ringtones were gone with no refund.

Some other annoyances: The tip calculator, I generally tip between 15 & 20%, so lets say I tip on the average 17% the phone only gives you the options of 10,15,18,and 20%? Any other phone I've seen with this feature gives you the option of entering your own percentage. You can enter in your own tip $$ amount but that just totals your bill, And if you can't figure out a 10% or 20% tip in your head you should bring an accountant to dinner with you.

I didn't buy this phone for the MTV features, But if you want to use them you have to pay for air time, As with any new toy I played with them in the begining but boy did my account balance go down quick! Not a feature I would recomend on a pre-paid plan.

Virgin says it is .25 cents a minute but according to the phone's timer it costs me .25 cents at 55 seconds.

As far as the pre paid plan goes its not bad. I used AT&T Free2Go before I bought this phone and was going to cancel my AT&T plan but kept it for my wife to use for emergencys. The Virgin plan was about 1/2 the price at the time. But recently AT&T's Prices have come down dramaticly (You can buy a $100 fill up, good for a year at .15 cents a Min.) so I may switch back to AT&T Free2Go as my primary phone service.

I know this is all negative but I'm sure you've also read all the good points about this phone. Happy Shopping!

Summary: Astoundingly poor service from Virgin Mobile
Review: Virgin's customer service is so astoundingly bad that I believe they HAVE to market themselves to kids so eager to get a phone - ANY phone, that they will put up with Virgin's constantly malfunctioning computer system.

Virgin doesn't have any 708 area code phone numbers available, so get ready to dial 10 digits for every local call.

Get ready to hear, "our system is down right now, you'll have to call back in four hours", or the routine..."I'm not finding any record of your account on my computer"...

I love the pay-as-you-go payment plan, and I really wanted to like them, but...

Summary: Is better than the other 8 phones I've had
Review: This is simply the best phone I've purchased. I've had phones from my CIngular plan, and some from my T-Mobile plan, and though they were good, there was always one better out there. This is it. I dropped my regular service because of the rising cost, (and found out this is almost the same per year, but I can control the monthly cost - $20 one month, $60 the next) ... the phone has speaker phone (and usually place on my armrest in my jeep, and people say they can't hear a difference from when I have it near my ear, very clear). Voice enabled dialing for those in your address book. You can also speak a number and have it dial when you say dial, gives you an instant balance on your account. Keeps track of total minutes used per day/month/since you've owned the phone. Battery life is good. The ONLY bad thing I can say, is that the glass front could be covered or something. Is outstanding. Would and have recommened it to everyone. When I use it in public, people do stare and ask what type of phone I'm using.

Summary: Finally, a pre-paid service & phone worth switching for!
Review: Let's face it, pre-paid services are designed to take advantage of people with bad credit. They're forced to accept high per-minute charges on shabby phones with even worse reception.

But not all of us have bad credit. I was formerly an AT&T subscriber and before that I'd been with Verizon for years. I like having a mobile phone with me at all times, and I want great reception, caller ID, a nifty phone, great customer servive, etc., but I simply don't put enough minutes into my phone to justify committing to $40.00 per month for a year (or two).

I've been aware for a while now that pre-paid service would be better suited for me. But because they were all so ghetto-quality, I felt it worth the $40.00/month rather than give up my dignity and be seen with a phone from TracPhone or Liberty Wireless.

Thank God for Virgin Mobile! Not only are they as classy and quality as the big subscrition services, I feel they're better.

Virgin Wireless costs only $20.00 every 3 months at a minimum. Of course at $0.25/min for the first 10 mins. and $0.10 for every min. thereafter, a subscription service would make more sense for someone making lots and lots of calls. But the amount of calls I make ends up costing me roughly $10.00/month. That's a lot of savings!

Virgin's customer servive, online and over the phone, is fantastic. Although I haven't needed much assistance, the few times I had to contact them, I didn't wait on hold longer than 30 seconds. The operators were smart and friendly. And what's most important of all, the reception is as good as AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Cingular, etc. (my co-workers all have mobiles from all the major carriers; we compare our phones constanty).

Now about the Kyocera Slider V5. This is a top-knotch phone in every way. I'm the only one I know with one like it. The slider idea is nifty. The speakerphone is very good. I agree that the buttons are a little tricky, but they are hardly worth mentioning. I'm also not interested in the MTV motif, but I can assure you, there are only a few ringer/wallpapers/ringsavers from them. The rest are normal, and very nice, I might add. With the exception of a neraly invisible insignia on the battery, my phone is completly MTV-free.

Overall, the Kyocera Slider V5 on Virgin Mobile Wireless is a fantastic deal. I'm 100% satisfied. I recommend this to everyone!
