Summary: Great For Hiking in groups
Review: I bought this product because my family and I go hiking a lot, we have an age range of 55 to 5 on our trips with varying degrees of speed and endurance, these walkie talkies have let us enjoy walking together without everyone having to be in the same group, and everyone can enjoy the outdoors at their own pace without the worry of where we are and when we will meet up again. It is also nice to know how hot or cool it is as some of our trips are out in the desert, and the access to the weather channels has proven very helpful in our decions on how long the day trips should be and what trail we should decide on. I recommend these walkie talkies to anyone who likes to hike in groups.
The design of the radios as well as the headsets are extremely helpful once you get the hang of them of course, as they enable your hands to be free, and unlike some of the other headsets that are on the market where the mike is always on, there is a button that can be pressed to to key the mike. My ten year old and 5 year old are able to use them with no problems. We love them and are wondering what took us so long to get them.

Summary: get this if you're looking for a good two-way!!!
Review: I bought this radio because of the added features of a weather radio and a FM radio.
It has great range and the weather radio is really nice!
The FM radio wasn't the clearest...but what do you expect from a 40 buck radio?
The headset fit me perfect and works great!!
This is a must have!!

Summary: a great time saver at the ski hill
Review: I got these pair for my dad and little brother to use at a ski hill in NH. They are WONDERFUL! What a time saver for a group skiing at a resort- They allow you to ski at your own pace, without worrying about how you can meet up with your group. Plus, my little brother, who is 7 years old, could operate it easily. And you can't beat the price! What a fun product.

Summary: good reception but extras don't work with frs on
Review: I looked at the Motorola 6310 and this Uniden 440 because they both have weather channels and FM radio and other similar extras. I chose this one because it was half the price of the Motorola. Unfortunately you can have FM or FRS but not both. On the Motorola the FM will be interrupted by a FRS transmission so you can have the best of both worlds. Also the call button gets hit accidentally very easily, so it's hard to tell when someone is really trying to call you or not. I have a Motorola 6200 that has recessed buttons and haven't had any false calls with it. I think I'll return the Uniden and get the Motorola 6310 or 6320 after all.

Summary: Walkie Talkie
Review: The radio itself is great. Its got good range and pretty good clarity considering that it is a glorified walkie talkie. However, the headset is truly a marvel of oversight. The microphone gets about 3/4 of the way around your cheek. As it is not situated in front of your mouth or at least close to it, you have to shout to be heard or twist your face. I tinkered with it and managed to extend length of the micropphone a bit, but for (the money) you'd expect to get an easy to use product. Other than this annoying oversight, these radios perform well, and are well worth the price.

Summary: Great For Hiking in groups
Review: The radio looks good and has nice features, but there is a problem that cannot be overcome.

You have to press the PTT button for at least 2 seconds before talking. Why? The PTT button is a dual-function button. Obviously it is a PTT, but it is also a Monitor button. This makes it necessary to hold it down for at least 2 seconds before talking. Getting people to realize this and have them remember to do this is next to impossible.

This made the radio very frustrating to use. I eventually sent them back for a refund.

Summary: A headset comes with the radio
Review: This gadget is cool, and I like it. Very easy to use. However, the quality of the FM radio is not so good.
One more thing, there is an earset mic included in the FRS440, so don't buy an extra one like I did. The mic makes it more worth for the price.
