Summary: bad squelch
Review: On the lower chanels I continuasally get bursts of static. I can't really compare it but I think it should mute out static when I'm not monitoring. It becomes very noisy.

Summary: Great in the right niche
Review: These Audiovox radios worked wonderfully for me on numerous trips in theme parks, hotel/beach and even using between two cars. I have had no problems with them - used them for 3 years now. 3 AAA batteries last a pretty long time - unit goes into battery saver mode if not used for a few seconds. Range could be better but 1/2 - 1 mile no problem (tried this on Aspen ski slopes!!). Foldable antenna is great. Not sure about the vox capability - never really tried it.

Summary: audiovox fr-530 review
Review: this is my first family radio i've tried so i cannot compare it to other products PROS 1. i think it does what it should do 2. range between houses about 1/4 mile (free line of sight not tested yet)

CONS 3. volume control cannot be adjusted to really low levels - even in the lowest setting it is very load and impossible to use in noise sensitive areas - looks like that spec was set by a person with hearing problems 4. you cannot hold it to your ear when listening because the audible click that occurs when switching from receive to talk kicks your eardrum out (really bad for kids) - that must be terrible with headset

Summary: Not bad for an inexpensive FRS
Review: Units have nice features, are easy to understand and use. Units were used on hunting trips. They offered good receptioon and transmission in wooded terrain. Units worked well with other name brand FRS units. My complaint was battery life, 3AAA's didn't last long with constant transmitting and cold weather, one hour to five hours was normal battery life. If a unit would'nt transmit it would still receive though. Battery level icon never changed.

Summary: We love them
Review: We got these for are children to take when we take trips. They take them when they go in the public restroom so I know that they are safe at all times. We have three pair so everyone can have there own. The kids love them because they can have a little freedom and know that they can call mom if they need her.
