Summary: Works as advertised and great sound quality
Review: Bought the Uniden 5.8 becaue I have a wireless network system at home and it was the only one advertised as a true 5.8Mhz. However the sound quality was very tinny.

I bought the AT&T but thought I would have problems as the specs say it is 5.8 to the phone but 2.4 back to the base. So far no interference with the wireless network and the sound quality is great. Different settings allow you to change the tonal quality and it actually works.

Very happy so far.

Summary: Make that 2.5 stars
Review: After owning this phone for only a week, I'm returning it. It cost way to much for the quality it provides.

Main reasons for return:
1. Handset.
a. When using the handset speaker phone, every time the person I was talking to paused and started talking again, the first few words weren't audible.
b. Seemed like I received more squelch than I should have. Squelch was there whether using the handset speaker phone or just the handset. Pressing the sound button did nothing to improve quality.
c. The volume control is only adjustable in increments. The highest was too loud and the next one down was too low.

2. Answering Machine.
a. The quality of the outgoing message is not great; although after trying out a panasonic and reading these reviews, I'm beginning to think all digital answering machines aren't great.
b. Due to static and cutting in and out, I could never make out the first incoming message of the day. The rest of my messages were understandable but once again, the quality of digital just wasn't up to what I expected.
c. The handset can't access the answering machine features. i.e. playback messages, etc.

2. Other dislikes I could have lived with except for the above.
a. No "real" speed dial.
b. No base dialing.
c. Handset wasn't that comfortable to hold.
d. Wall mount looked ridiculous - caused phone to protrude from wall a bit too much for my taste.

Overall, I wanted to like this phone (especially since it's from an American company) but just couldn't given the price and poor (digital) quality. It's just hard to believe that the quality of these top of the line digital phones aren't better than what they are.

Summary: Answering machine does not work.
Review: Stay away from this phone! The answering machine only picks up one time out of three, regardless of how you set the # of rings. Or it will pick up on the right ring, but not play the outgoing message or record an incoming one. All you get is dead air.

Piece of absolute JUNK.

Summary: Great design, but didn't work!
Review: I don't know, maybe we got a dud. But this slick-looking and well-designed phone had no range!!! We would walk upstairs to talk, and it sounded like we were on the moon. In fact, it sounded worse than if we had been on the moon. Pluto maybe. We were extremely disappointed since this phone seemed as though it would meet our needs. But clearer reception would be had through two cans and a piece of string. Extremely disappointing.

Summary: Good Phone but lacking key feature
Review: I was very excited to get his phone because of the digital answering machine with 3 mailboxes. However, I mistakenly thought this phone also had call out caller id. this allows you to hear the caller id information from the speaker phone automatically.
this phone does not have this feature. this was the second reason i wanted to purchase this phone. i wanted this feature.
the 5830 has the call out id feature. but no digital answering machine. Too bad they didn't include the call out on the 5840.
the speaker phone is amazing. people cannot tell you are using a speaker phone it is so clear.

Summary: High-tech and Modern Phone
Review: This phone has myriad excellent features included. Of them, the main ones that deserve special recognition include:
- the look: this phone simply is cool to have as a piece of furniture, adding just the right "tech" look to any home
- the light: although they didn't have to, they did; the blue light lets you know when the phone is in use, when someone is online, or when its ringing
- the speakerphone: for those of you who always are annoyed by having to hold the phone to your ear, this is for you. Not only does the base of this phone have a speakerphone, but SO DOES THE HANDSET. You can be sitting anywhere in your home and be able to talk with a speakerphone.
- time: You have a nice clock available on the back of the phone - crucial, when you aren't wearing a watch.
- answering machine: the sound quality of this is phenomenal compared to other brands.

Summary: Great product, non-conventional setup
Review: We've been using this system for about 2 months now and have been thoroughly satisfied with the quality and features (speakerphone, intercom etc...)However, potential buyers should be aware that the setup procedures for this phone is similar to a cell phone. For instance, there is no "page" button for the handset because you can always ring any handset from the base. There is no speed dial because the Memory Dial feature works very much like for a cell phone. If you haven't had any problem programming your cell phone, you should very comfortable with this phone. On the other hand, if you are used to the traditional setup for a cordless landline phone, you may be put off by this. Otherwise, it's a great product.

Summary: Bad Answering Machine Recordings
Review: This phone works ok except for the answering machine. 50% of the time I can't hear the message that was left for me. Sometimes a message is at an acceptable volume but other times the volume is so low that I can't make out the message that was recorded. I think I may have a bad unit - at least I hope everybody else's machine doesn't do the same thing! I called AT&T tech support and they said to connect the phone directly to the wall jack phone line instead of to my computer. I can't do that because my phone line is shared by my PC modem to get on the Internet. It seems in this day and age AT&T ought to know that we all have computers!

Summary: 900 MHz Panasonic Out-performs AT & T
Review: While this phone has some nice features, the selling point is the 5.8 GHz attribute. To get to the bottom line fast; My (approximately) 3 year old Panasonic 900 MHz phone works better than this. Need I say more? If I hadn't bought this over the internet, I'd get my money back. AT & T should be ashamed of themselves for this.

Summary: Great phone
Review: If ya want a phone that is just nice then stop listening to these people that complain of every little thing and get this one. Every one says, its hard to set the time or the phone book is so hard to get to , no speed dial. With this phone I took 3 numbers that I dial all the time and I listed them under #1 john doe, #2 john doe, and so on so then when you want to dial that number just press the mem button 2 times for #1 john doe , and so on . Now thats real hard isnt it. Wake up complainers and if you were old enough like me you would remember when none of this was even on a phone. So stop your crying you lazy people.Plus this phone is as clear as a bell.
