Summary: One Frame per 3-4 seconds on a good call.
Review: I was excited when I ordered this product because it said "8-15 Frames per second," however after using it, this turns out to be a complete lie. I'm lucky to get one frame per 3-4 seconds. Nevertheless, it's still nice, particularly since it works directly out-of-the-box.

Summary: Pleasure to see relatives, but need use right phone company
Review: My daughter and my one and only grandson live half way across the US from me so she came up with the idea of buying the Beamers. While the picture is small and not the quality of a video, it is fun to be able to see each other. This way, I get to watch my grandson as he grows and he can see me so we are not just strangers on the phone. Really fun and does not cost any extra to use than the phone call.

Summary: Seeing My Infant Granddaughter Daily
Review: My daughter lives 3000 miles away, and when she gave birth to my first grandchild earlier this year it saddened me that I wouldn't be able to see my granddaughter as often as I would like to. Now with Beamer, I get to see her eating her Cheerios, waving hello and even saw her dressed in her new, adorable Christmas outfit.

I'm not real comfortable with electronics stuff, so I was really happy that Beamer was very easy to set up and use. All I do is pick up the phone and call my daughter, so there was really nothing new to learn. I also like the fact that I didn't have to buy a new phone, or pay anything extra for my phone calls.

While the Beamer video is definitely not DVD or TV picture quality, I still get to see my granddaughter smile anytime I want to, and she gets to see me. Since she's still too young to be talking, it makes me feel a whole lot better that I can see her on the phone and start a relationship with her from so far away. Beamer isn't quite the Jetsons cartoons, which my kids watched while they were growing up, but it sure has changed my life.

I gave Beamer 5 stars because it does what it promised. It was easy to set up and use, the picture is good (not great), and most importantly, it helps me stay connected to the rest of my family.

Review: My parents-in-law lives in Beijing and we are in US. At first the beamer does not work - not able to establish a connection. Evetually the technical support of Beamer tried to use some other phone services and was able to find one that works. It is a 10-10 number from AT&T. Beamer did not work with calls made from my long distance carrier or phone cards.

It is a thrill to see relatives afar after long separation. I have the picture quality on the high on both sides and asked both sides to remain stable, this way the pictures are sharp and tolerably smooth.

I tried this phone with my parents who live in central China but no luck, even with 10-10 numbers. So definitely there is no guarantee that this setup will work for you.

Summary: Vialta Beamer-Not worth it!
Review: My wife and I are separated and we thought the Beamer would be the perfect choice to bridge our distance. No way! The video at best, is so pixelated and time lagged that the little tiny screen barely shows who or what you're looking at. Never has it been in "real time" and it's no better then the first web cams that came out on the internet six years ago. I've done my diagnostics and it's the Beamer, not my phone line or connection.
It's not a video phone; it's a waste of time, waste of money, waste of extra phone call charges from when it "connects", and most of all, a great dissapointment for two people who are apart.

Summary: Vialta Beamer BM-80
Review: Ruined X-mas and holiday. I bought a pair of beamers, one for my 90 year old mother in Florida and one for myself to use in Missouri, they DIDN'T/DON'T WORK... I took them back to Best Buy and they were excellent about taking them back. I still would like to have a pair to use but can't find out why they would't work nor find any place to get questions answered. HELP

Review: Simply doesn't work. Tried on number phone line connections. Definitely not video - at best can use for a snapshot of the person on the other end.

Summary: Delivers what it promised
Review: We are the usual customers on something like this with three young granddaughters living 3,000 miles from us. The orgianl review on this product make it very clear what it would do and won't do and we found it worked great.

We had to be careful in just where we plugged it in and where we stood in front of it but after a little adjusting, it worked fine for us.

The instructions, while fairly clear, possibly could be done better. We have used it for a week now and find it works very well if you follow the rules such as only turning one on when you start, etc. Buy!

Summary: RUINED CHRISTMAS--Did not work at all
Review: We bought this phone to share Christmas with relatives in another state. Despite the advertised ease-of-use, the phone DID NOT WORK. We never established a video connection. This may have something to do with our having DSL service--but try finding any information at the Vialta website or in the user's manual. NO helpful troubleshooting info, and the device is so "simple" that there is absolutely nothing you can tweak when it doesn't work. Customer service at Vialta was unavailable.

A HUGE waste of money.
