Summary: Good phone and machine
Review: After reading some of the reviews, I figured could return the phone if needed. Well theres no need to! It works fine. I'm a broadcast engineer and I am pretty picky about the technical details of most consumer equipment. I don't know why others have reported poor sound quality, I don't have that problem at all. It sounds fine. The phone is compact/light and has super range. It even works with our 2.4 gig wireless access point located just 3 feet away from the base. The caller ID works everytime and the reminder for pending messages isn't obnoxious, just a gentle beep that you have a message pending. You can retrieve your messages from the handset but no, you can't use both handsets at the same time, but I didn't expect that. The options all in all are pretty good. I wish it had a way to choose the outgoing message based on CID, but that would also be a luxury. For the money, this has been a good phone for us!

Summary: Good, reliable system
Review: Although several other reviewers have complained about static or poor voice quality, this phone system has been great for us. Never a problem, easy to set up and use, clear voice quality and very reliable. Uniden has been my brand of choice for years. The only reason for giving this phone 4 instead of 5 stars-- the fact that you can't use the two handsets at the same time. The other day I was on the phone and I started getting a low battery warning beep from the handset I was using. I went to switch over to the other one, and discovered I couldn't. I had to hang up and call the person back from the other handset. Not exactly convenient, but not a dealbreaker for me either.

Summary: But Using the Headset Jack was Terrible
Review: Good phone, but even with the highest quality headsets, and with a Mic Sensitivity maxed out, people had difficulty hearing me. Do not buy this if you intend to use a headset.

Summary: Can't use both handsets at once!
Review: Great sound quality. Good Range. Good answering machine. No problems except for 2 big ones. This, as other 2.4g phones will interfere with wireless networking. If you keep changing the channel on the phone though you can get them to not interefere. But the BIG one is that you can't use both of the handsets at the same time. only one at a time. FYI - I think that greatly reduces the usability of the phones. Otherwise it's good.

Summary: Good Value, Clear Calls
Review: I am very happy with this phone. The calls are clear and the answering machine is easy to use. Also, I have found that the user interface is intuitive and I haven't even had to look at the manual.
The one draw back of this and other dual handset cordless phone systems is that only one person can use the phone at a time.
For the price, this is loaded with features without sacrificing quality.

Summary: Do not walk, RUN away from this phone
Review: I bought the TRU-448-2 when my Siemens 2.4GHz started to go. I thought that I had read positive review here and although I had shied away from Uniden before, I would try it.

First Lesson - Trust your instincts!

This is by far the most horrible cordless phone system I have ever come across.

Clarity - I think that juice cans with string would be clearer than this sorry excuse for a system. If you enjoy static, pops and clicks then this is the phone system for you. It is so bad, that most people calling think that it's my cell phone number they called.

The features are pretty awful too. There's not even an intercom system between handsets.

If you have a wireless computer network at home, forget about trying to talk on the phone and use the net at the same time. My Siemens system for some reason never interfered with the wireless computer network, but leave it to the trusty TRU-448-2 to trample anything that comes in it's path and all this with the very same pathetic sound quality I've come to expect.

So, after really, really trying, I am throwing in the towel. Time to flush the TRU-448-2 bye bye.

Summary: Awesome system
Review: I bought this phone system when it first came out and was well over $150. Let me tell you, it's worth every single penny of it. Not only does it have the features listed above, but it has distinctive ring - if you subscribe to Caller ID, you can program the phone to use a certain ringtone for certain callers. You don't have to answer the phone when your mother-in-law calls if you don't want to. You can choose not to get up to even SEE who is calling simply by the ring. The batteries last forever. I frequently leave my phones off the charger for two or three days, and I am on the phone several hours a day. I only have three complaints, and in all honesty, they are very minor. 1 - you cannot use both handsets at the same time. 2 - reception gets a little fuzzy when my microwave is running (as with any 2.4 Ghz phone). 3 - you have to program each phone seperately. I highly recommend this phone to anyone who chooses to use a cordless system.

Summary: Pleased with this phone
Review: I did a lot of research on multiple handset phones and all seemed to have a lot of pluses but a few drawbacks. We have only had this system for a week, but so far we're very happy. There are some drawbacks:
One caller has mentioned that I sound "tinny." (She thought I was on a cell phone.) You can't use both handsets at the same time (but I think you can use one handset and the base speakerphone at the same time. Haven't tried it.) The "end" button is unusually small, but this hasn't really caused a problem. The outgoing message on the answering machine has poor-quality sound. I wish this phone had the intercom feature I saw on some other brands. You have to program both handsets separately.
On the plus side, the quality of the phones seems good. I used the manual and found the setup easy. I like the two-handset system; great for transferring many calls to a teenager up in his room! If someone is on the extension, you get a beep rather than breaking into a private call. You have the option of transferring stored caller id numbers into the phone book. Best of all, this 2.4 gig system does not interfere with my wireless network. I'm not sure why not, but I'm not complaining.
Overall, I think we made a good decision. From the research I did, I don't believe it's possible to find the perfect phone system. But for the price, we're pleased.
