Summary: Very good alternative to Palm
Review: I am a Palm user for the last 3 years. I just got the Visor for my wife, and it's a VERY good alternartive to Palm. It's cheaper, it has much more options and functionality, the interface is the same, so it's being compatible with all your friends' Palms.

There are many features that Visor has, that I always wished Palm would have. Like USB syncing, nice week view of your appointments, or the fact that I can just buy more memory when I need it.

It comes with 2MB, which is absolutely enough if you are not going to install a lot of software, if you will, in the future you can always buy the 8MB extra memory module.

There are tons of apps and games on the internet that you can download too.

Overall if you need a good, light, cheap PDA - it's definetly for you.

Summary: For those who want to work, not play
Review: WOW, what a great productivity tool. Easy to use, quick access to all my info. I only wish the unit was a bit thinner, but that is my only complaint. At first I was worried that 2 meg memory was not enough, silly me. I have had the 2 meg unit for 6 months and it is literally crammed with info and I have only used 40% of the memory. I even have loaded a few games and other software toys. Battery life is great too. I access my Visor dozens of times daily and the 2 AAA batteries last 3 to 4 weeks!! If you want to work, buy this unit. But if you want to play sound, record, have color (which sucks batteries), play games, then spend alot more money on a CE unit.

Summary: Great For First Time User
Review: Do I spend ... on a new handheld? This was the question that I asked myself before deciding to get this gem. Anyone currently using a handheld will know exactly what they want/need, but it is the new user that does not know where to begin. My reason for buying the Visor: Why buy the most expensive model now when I don't even know how much I am really going to use this thing? So why the Visor over the 2MB Palm? Easy, if I do use this thing a lot I can expand to 10MB for .... Did I make the right choice? Absolutely! This handheld is great! So far, the 2MB is enough, and I use avantgo.com to download 6 internet sites daily to browse on the train in the morning. This is a great first handheld for anyone. 4 stars instead of 5 are for the usb cradle instead of a standard serial cable.

Summary: Sloppy piece of engineering
Review: A sloppy piece of engineering

- The expansion module cover keeps slipping off, specially if you wear the Visor on a holster - The batteries drain like a leaky tap - The screen corners are poor - I changed the batteries, and lost ALL the data and new applications that I had! - The machine is thick and bulky - looks like it needs to go on a diet

Net net: You would be better off with a pen and paper diary than this clunky piece of plastic! Welcome ye pretender!

Summary: Great product, especially at this price!
Review: I bought the Visor to get organized. I'm a big fan. It works great. Positive attributes: • High contrast for easy viewing. • Lots of great software available on the web for download. • Date Book Plus has many ways of viewing your schedule. • Expandable! • Dependable customer service

Some things that you should be aware of: • Separate cover takes a little bit to get used to, but it snaps onto the bottom and is fully out of the way. • Top corners of screen may seem a bit loose when you press on them with the stylus. • Active area for the calculator icon extends above icon area and can be hit inadvertently when trying to press scroll down icon used in the lower right corner of some software screens. • Certain games can be addictive and consume more time than should be spent playing/solving them.

Summary: Great Product for a Great price
Review: Been waiting for price to drop on one of these gadget, finally got one. It's a little bulky, wish it was thinner like the Palm Vx, still it does everything I need it to do, from reading my e-mail offline to scheduling appointments. I reason I pick this over a Palm III is that u can add memory to it using springboard modules. 2mb should be enough for the average user, if u don't use avantgo, I do so I got myself an 8mb module, now it's great. I am happy I picked handspring over my palm. oh I forgot USB is great makes Hotsync much faster than serial.

Summary: Visor Leaves Certain Qualities Desirable
Review: I bought a visor about 2 months ago and loved it at first. As a began to use it though, it got old fast. It made me want color sooo bad and has almost no memory. The graffiti system is easy to learn but gets really annoying when a letter just will not pop up. I am going to sell this pda and get a Casio, HP, or Compaq. I still have not decided. But after owning this pda, I regret buying it and made me want a pocket pc.

Summary: A worthy alternative to Palm m100
Review: PROS

1-Solid, compact, simple, attractive design. 2-USB cradle (faster than Palm m100's serial cable). 3-Larger screen than Palm m100. 4-Logical placement of buttons; 5-Easy expanability of memory and other options through Springboard expansion slot. (Palm m100 cannot be expanded.) 6-2MB memory is more than adequate for most users. (I have about 5 games, Avantgo web clipping software and other applications and still have memory remaining. Palm applications utilize memory much more efficiently, and therefore are much smaller, than comparable MS PocketPC applications.)

CONS

1-Snap on cover is cumbersome and a bit annoying to some (including me). I would have preferred a flip top cover. But a cover is better than no cover, since the screen needs adequate protection from the elements. 2-Infrared sensor is located on the side of the PDA, which makes it awkward to communicate with Palm PDAs (where the infrared sensor is more logically located on the top). This would be OK, but certain applications, such as the universal remote software, are difficult to use with the infrared sensor on the side of the unit. 3-Cheap stylus. Plus, the stylus doesn't snap or click into its slot, which makes the stylus easy to lose.

OVERALL

- A good buy overall. However, I would consider spending a few extra bucks to buy the Palm IIIxe. The new Sony Clie is also a compelling product. Handspring is a nice product but I'm not sure it's superior to Palm or Sony. In the final analysis, it's hard to go wrong with any Palm-OS-based PDA product currently available. They are superior to PocketPC products in terms of their practical usability and functionality and are generally well made. I would recommend a Handspring for its expandability but would recommend a Palm for its logical design and build quality.

Summary: An honest opinion...
Review: Friends, I purchased the Handspring Visor and used it for about a month.

The GOOD STUFF: The operating interface was easy to use right away...'graffiti' or typing in text were both explained in simple fashion for the novice. In about an hour I was able to easily synch all my contacts and notes from MS Outlook into this device. In the next hour, I was able to easily add games and apps such as e-book readers in a matter of minutes. The included hotsync software is truly one-touch in its operation after the initial installation. -Features such as backlighting were adequate though not stellar since the unit literally has to be held close to your face.

The BAD STUFF: 2MB of memory is not enough! I told myself I would only use this device for storing my addresses...but after the first few days, the amount of neat things possible to do blew this intention away. I was able to install about 4 typical games, 5 apps (Vindigo for example took up a lot of memory (650k) and then when I uploaded my contact list of 200 names, I had very little memory left. -scratches on the screen...I recommend buying some sort of screen protector since after a month of use, the scratches were very noticeable.

Recommendation: After a month of use, I truly loved this gadget. Playing games or organizing my schedule actually made it a pleasure to wait for the daily train. Not once did I have to do a 'hard' restart and erase my data. This device worked flawlessly in my case. In the end, my demand for more memory made me think about purchasing the Visor Deluxe...h/w I realized for about $50.00 less I could purchase the Palm IIIxe. I made this decision because I realized that the Palm operating software was what made the Visor so practical and fun. I'm not the type to purchase expensive modules so the Visor expandability was not an issue for me. Also, the Visor models do not have flash memory allowing their operating systems to be updated (unlike the IIIxe). Perhaps I should do another review after a month of using the Palm IIIxe...
