Summary: warning!
Review: After owning 3 Palms and one Pocket PC (... I kept dropping them), I bought but deeply regret buying a Clie. If you are a heavy user of "tasks" as I am, Clie's performance is so bad the PDA is unusable. When one makes any change in the task (...change date to "tomorrow"), there is about a 5 second delay. For all the Palms this was instantaneous. Change "priority"... same thing. Etc. This renders the Clie unusable.
I will not complain about the fact the machine just flat stopped working after a month of use because I sent it in and they fixed it for free and quickly. I pointed out the above problem but they did nothing.
This really disappointed me as I had previously thought well of Sony.

Summary: best pda for now
Review: As you know, PDAs keep getting better and better so it would be foolish to say this is the best PDA. But for right now, the PDA is great, and at some point, if you don't have a PDA, you're going to have get one, so why not get a good one. The keyboard is not great for big thumbs, but it's better than graffiti, and Sony does a great job of integrating the Palm OS with its memory stick. With a video camera it's great for taking quick pictures. Granted the camera is not as good as digital cameras but it's good for those quickies that you need in a hurry and forgot to buy a disposable.

Summary: Ahead of its time.....
Review: Back when this Clie came out, it was the first with integrated keyboard and a built-in digital camera. Two years later, it is still ahead of many handheld devices! One neat feature: remote controller! MP3 player is another nice feature, so check out the used Clie's.

Review: Depending on what you use your Sony CLIE PEG-NR70V Handheld
by Sony for, I would wait and save up for the Sony CLIE PEG-Nx70V.

Summary: the cons
Review: first, this $600 sony cost the same as a a brand new Pentium 4 1.8ghz desktop, this is $300 more expensive than a pocketpc2000 pda and about $100 more than the pocketpc 2002 pda. sure palm OS is realiable and quick, but a thin mag laptop-like pda is nice, but in the long run, 66mhz isn't just far from the 150mhz/206mhz pocketpcs, it's also $100 to $300 more expensive. (The new ones run at 400mhz) For some ppl, palm OS is enough for addresses and maybe mp3, but wouldn't a mid range palm do the work? the pocketpcs are less expensive (if you not going for the super ipaq), and has 16 to 64 mb of built in memory, that's 2x to 8x. looking ahead in a year or so, all the pda will be wi-fi or bluetooth ready, and replacing this un-upgradable sony which you bought at $600 (that pretty much records address and phone number) is going to be heartbreaking.
if you are one of those who wants to spend money, why not go for the full featured pocktpc, or better yet, check out what might just be the future at www.oqo.com (1ghz 10gb of mem win xp)
sorry sony, but it's just too expensive

Summary: Great product UNTIL......
Review: Great product UNTIL the serial number wore off the back of the sticker on back of pda and I needed it. I was loyal to Palm until I saw the Sony Clie NR70v. Love the screen. Used mostly for my constantly updated address book. Soon after the warranty expired, I could no longer hot-sync.
Sony said, for a fee, the cradle was damaged. I had unfortunately purchased Circuit City's extended warranty. I waited nearly an hour twice to talk with someone at the extended warranty company who spoke extremely hard-to-understand English. They wanted the serial number. It is on the back of the clie on a sticker, but it had worn off and couldn't be read. C City didn't have my serial number in their computer. I threw away the box. DON'T THROW AWAY THE BOX or at the very least, SAVE THE SERIAL NUMBER where you can find it. The extended warranty company would not honor the warranty. Eventually, after I had to make a fuss, I found someone at C City who said he'd swap the cradle if I brought in the damaged one.
The Clie is heavy with camera inside, but I love the swivel stand feature. I've propped it up many times while looking at addresses to write. Someday I'll learn how to use an MP3 player. I'm now interested in the Garmin iQue 3600 palm compatible with built in GPS. No swivel, though. If Sony made a pda with gps with tech support (Garmin doesn't have it) and a Sprint phone inside, I'd buy it in a minute..without the extended warranty. By the time it breaks, I want the updated models anyway. They're always improving!

Summary: CAMERA INFO HERE
Review: I agree with many of the reviews (buttons poorly placed, keyboard arguably not faster than Graffiti, excellent screen color, etc.), and love the device in general; but would like to give you more info about the camera to help choose between the V and non-V models. I have owned a 3.2 megapixel digital camera, and the Handspring expansion Eyemodule camera for comparison. The CLIE camera takes descent color photos. They appear particularly nicely on the small PDA screen, and can easily take photos in good light (mandatory, no flash), especially of close objects (within 5-6 feet). Great for quick photos of people (can even take mini size and attach to address files!), kids, etc. At a distance, slightly grainy for sure, but I have photographed my house, my car, and even my flagpole with good success. Again, bright light is required for a good shot. Can take MANY shots without wearing down the battery (exactly how many i do not know, but would guess dozens and dozens), and they are all thumbnailed in tiny size in the PDA program to allow access, review. Can import/export to Memory Stick, and I have a 128MB Memory STick in the slot [price] and can store hundreds of color photos. Uses: I have a friend househunting who uses his to take photos of each home. Take car wreck damage photos, take people you meet at a bar photos, take road sign photos for directions, a quickpic for on-line sales, covertly snap people you work with to show the spouse ("this is Jennie that I work with...see, she ain;t so cute"), etc. The fact that you have the camera all the time is a major plus! Can change effects, can take B/W pics, can change lighting sensitivity, can even do some (useless) fun picture effects (solar, negatives, etc.). All photos can be modified on the CLIE with PaintWorks (included) right on the CLIE to add funny gestures, change some colors, and such (but does not crop, enlarge etc.) Negative: unlike my Eyemodule Handspring that can hotsync the images to a PC, Sony has decided to make us buy a Memory Stick and Reader/Writer ([price]; the knock-off reader only is [price]) to get the photos from CLIE, to Stick, to PC. Once on the PC can modify with any software program you use, as these are JPEG images. Can email, print hard copy and the like. The Sony Memory Stick reader/writer is also very helpful, but I do not beleive required, to get your CD collection on Memory Stick MP3s for CLIE listening. So, bottom line, you will be spending another [price] dollars beyond the PDA price to get a large size Memory stick and the reader, count on it. I personally use the camera every few days, which is more than I can say for my digicam that I never seem to have when I need it. For the extra [price] bucks, the camera, in my humble opinion, is very worthwhile. Happy shooting!

Summary: Reply to Great PDA, but.....
Review: I am actually waiting for my unit in the mail. I wanted to point out that Sony has a patch on their website that is supposed to address the memory stick recognition problem.
