Summary: Hardware is great; software and support is typical Sony
Review: + The basics of PalmOS is all there with some nifty Sony add-on programs that show images, video, and of course the MP3 audio files. There's a software interface that essentially allows your memory stick to act as your extended memory drive. The easy movement of files from cpu to Clie is either through an install app or simply drag-drop once your computer sees your Clie as an external drive.

+ The foremost knock-dead product quality is the crisp and clear and bright screen. You need to see it to believe it. I dump portfolio images to display to clients, friends, and show off. The upper casing is metal (aluminum probably), the lower a painted plastic. The Sony side scroll-dial has a new companion - a separate back button below it that acts beautifully on AvantGo; learned browser manipulation actually is capitalized on mobile products!

+ The MP3 audio player (included) is two pieces - the remote control and then a plug in headphones. The remote has a nib that allows Clie input without fumbling for a stylus. Personally the earphones are a real pain though. The two wires are almost completely separated creating a wire management mess; the slip around ear lobe design is just too annoying with tension and constant pressure placed on a part of the body that shouldn't be used as a latching zone. Dump them for something more ergo.

(-) This all leads to the negative issues. Sony support for their software is ridiculous. It says XP compatible - but it is NOT. It installs incomplete with no 'Intellisync' limiting me to using the Sony calendar and no sync to Outlook. After 5-6 attempts at complete uninstall and install - there's no more sync capabilities whatsoever; rendering my XP machine non-communicado with Clie. No response from Sony other than the automation. However, the software works flawlessly on my other 2, Win2000OS cpus.

(+/-) I also purchased the unit for the accessories. I'm excited about the camera, regardless of the resolution. The modem seems silly with the accessibility and mobility of today's computers; and I'm waiting on a stupid microphone to be designed and manufactured...will anybody listen to the consumer? The negative here is that I'm still waiting on my camera unit. A lost opportunity is the lack of decent cases. I've got fours cases - the original has a flip top that is minimal screen protection. The 2 leather ones make you stick a Velcro on the unit - yuck, no way! So, I'm using the old Clie wrap-around nylon padded case because it keeps the unit safe and snug.

Overall, 4 solid stars for the great product and the ability to expand. The software issue still remains Sony's downfall; the lack of accessories is temporal; but the constant failure to provide adequate and appropriately designed cases to help you holster your treasure will is a constant afterthought for many hardware companies. Unfortunately, this sad software issue has sealed the deal as my last Sony computer/PDA purchase ever - the hardware design is advanced but the software is not.

Summary: Good Palm device w/ poor details - TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
Review: Although I enjoyed my Sony CLIE N760C for four days, and agree with many of the good points that others here have mentioned, I must add my two cents of caution. It is a smart looking piece, the MP-3 player works nicely (very sweet sound) and for the most part well designed, but....

1- The jog dial is too far down on the side, making it difficult to use, and the back button is below it, making it impossible to use your thumb to click it (unless you are double-jointed)
2- The screen is beautiful in the bright daylight, have never seen anything like it. However it is against a grey silver reflective background. (NOTE: all the product picture have a simulated (and unrealistic) screen shot.) The front light is fair to poor. My old Palm IIIc is about 2-3 times brighter, so if you really want the resolution, I guess it's a fair trade-off. By the way the screen is about 10% smaller.
3- The Palm OS and CLIE bundled multi-media software works at high resolution, few other apps take advantage of it. If you need reading glasses to read, the thin, and elegant font will challenge you.

I am (reluctantly) returning mine because the protective flip cover keeps popping off. I called Sony and they could not replace this simple part! (After being on hold for 25 minutes, and another 20 to resolve the issue.) They could not exchange, nor send me a new flip cover! I was so disappointed that I figured if anything major should happen, I would be in deep trouble. They did offer to give me a full refund though, I will pay for shipping it back.

If you must have hi-res and a MP-3 player or/and if you have good vision, don't mind a not bright screen and don't care about customer support, then this is the machine for you.

Summary: Hold Button for MP3
Review: As a correction to my previous review of 7/12/02, I just discovered that the Sony Clie PEG-N760C does indeed have a "hold" button which locks the keys while the MP3 is playing. This prevents the MP3 player from stopping if any of the buttons are accidentally depressed; and -- by turning off the display -- it keeps the batteries from draining too quickly.

I apologize for this omission in my earlier review.

Summary: One of the best PDA around
Review: Bought this baby a few weeks ago and what attracted me to buy it is the color screen and it doubles up as an MP3 player. And for the price paid, ( they throw in the headphones, an 8Mb Memory Stick, the case ) seems like a good deal. The 8 Mb memory stick is too small so had to purchase a 128 Mb memory stick to complement it ( since I owned a SONY digital camera, it's not a real waste ). It works as advertised, the screen is really good to look at and overall is slimmer and lighter than a pocket PC

The stylus could do with some improvement ( sharp edges that sticks to your hand ). The buttons are recessed and hard to play games with it. Jog dial is cool though haven't got the hang of it. Throw in a couple of PALM softwares ( I would recommend Megasoft VIP Launcher ) and it's a great piece of machine.

Right now though, I have a problem with the unit I got ( the digitizer was misaligned ) and have it send in for repair. But overall, I would recommend it for people with money to burn. It's pricier than your regular Palm's ( but you get color and an MP3 player thrown in ) and less than a fully loaded PocketPC. Buy the 128 Mb memory stick and you have a true entertainment organizer in the "palm of your hand". Due to the minor "problems", I mentioned, I would give it 4 stars

Summary: The Best Handheld yet
Review: I absolutly love this thing. I have had a Palm VII before this and that was great too while it lasted. It just didn't have enough memory and it had a black and white screen. I was about to buy the latest Palm the Palm m505 with the colored screen but when I saw this I was just so astonished by its magnificence I had to have it. I just love the mp3 player, the high res color screen, its super small size and its stylish looks.

Summary: PEGN760 is the way to go if you're into that Gadget struff
Review: I bought my Clie about two months ago and I must admit, all the hype and hoopla over the PDA was somewhat deserved. The clie really is a handy little gadget. I recommend it to everyone who lacks organization and even those who just want to stay organized. It has all the functions of a Palm plus an MP3 Player, PG Pocket and PhotoStand, which allows you to store and share photographs in virtual color, and just when you think you have it all, the Clie also comes with digital capabilities that allow you to download and watch movies in color right on your PDA screen. How wonderful!! Right. Now for the not so wonderful part. Even though the Clie is a remarkable handheld, it's not God. It does have its imperfections. For one, the Clie has this added protection feature that prevents you from beaming mostly all of the software that comes with the handheld. Add-on applications can be beamed though. Second, when the Clie freezes (sometimes this can happen suddenly and for unexplained reasons), there is literally nothing you can do to reboot the handheld. If you reset, you have to erase everything on the handheld completely and any new information you've stored since your last hotsync is permanantly lost. Even if the amount of data lost will be insignificant, this can still be a frustrating inconvience if you're away from you computer and can't immediately perform a hotsync to restore your data, in which case I hope your memmory is relaible because that will be your only source of recall. Overall, the Clie is not a bad buy. It's not perfect, but then again what is? The Clie is an organizer, a walkman, and a portible video player all rolled up into a fun, colorful, compact solution. I give it four stars.

Summary: Bought it, Could not find accessories for it, Returned it!
Review: I bought this handheld after seeing its impressive screen. I tried to find accessories for it (like a case without messy velcro) and could not find anything. It wasn't even because they were out of stock...they don't sell the decent accessories for it in the USA. The only way to get half way decent accessories is to find someone in Japan! I found myself wishing that I stayed with the Palm pilots (every where I went they had TONS of neat accessories to pick from). I returned the clie and bought a Palm M505 and now I am happy. I have been able to find everything that I want and need to have (plus some other extra goodies). I still like the screen of the Clie MUCH BETTER...but to have to worry about carrying it around without a case...is not for a busy working mother of two!

Summary: Best PDA I've owned by far!
Review: I change my PDA's as frequently as my BVD's; I always want the latest and greatest and usually I was satisfied with my upgrading. This came to a crashing halt with my purchase of the Palm m505. Poor screen lighting and my presbyopia made it impossible to use. Then I heard about the Sony Clie 760c. One look and it was love at first site! Without a doubt this is my favorite PDA of all time (I've been though 6 of 'em.) It is stylish, sturdy, beautifully lit and clear as a bell even without my reading glasses on! The jog dial is a nice addition and with a 64mb MemoryStick I can add a few dozen games to the usual productivity software. I haven't made much use of the MP3 player though. (I'd rather have an iPod) But it is great to take my PowerPoint presentations along and give a personal presentaion to a fellow physician when necessary. The resolution of the screen is perfect for this, couldn't do it with any other Palm. This is a must buy for any high end Palm purchaser. Get it!

Summary: Sony CLIE PEG-N760C, the C stands for Cool
Review: I have been a fan of Palm OS device for a few years and have enjoyed the power that they provide for carry important information around with me. The Sony CLIE PEG-N760C offers many advantages over the Palm IIIc that I carry currently. It has offers 65,000 Colors versus the 256 that I have now. Other Palm OS devices have 65,000 colors too, but they don't have Hi-Resolution (320x320) LCD Displays.

The Memory stick provides expandability that I can only dream about, my current device has none. The 750C have many things going for it and the built-in MP3 player is one of them. Of course, the PEG-N760C comes complete with all of the standard Palm OS® applications you need for organizing your life. Plus, it's fully compatible with hundreds of add-on applications available for download. The Jog Dial™ navigator provides one-hand operations.

Pros: Beautiful color, small, light, expandable.
Cons: Buttons are smaller than some other Palm OS devices
The Bottom Line: I recommend the Sony CLIE PEG-N760C over many Palm OS devices because it has many features for today and the future.
