Summary: Stands the test of time
Review: Having lost my Handspring Treo, I was recently forced to take a step back in time by synching my old Visor Deluxe and using it as my primary PDA. I was pleased to see that it is as useful as ever.

With regular synching and password protection, the Visor Deluxe becomes a useful storage device for anything from addresses to passwords. (Be sure to password-protect anything you wouldn't want others to see in case the PDA gets lost or stolen.) The graffiti is not difficult to learn. Alternatively, you can use the stylus to tap an electronic keyboard to enter data. There are plenty of Palm-OS-compatible programs out there allowing you to do practically anything with your PDA. Plus you can buy a fold-up keyboard and a small modem (or GPS, or whatever) for when you want to travel without a laptop but still be able to communicate. One drawback that I haven't been able to overcome this time around: whenever I synch AvantGo, it causes my Visor to reset and dims the screen to an unreadable level.

For those who want or have a cell phone and can afford something more, I would strongly recommend one of the Treo series. Who wants to carry around two pieces of electronics where one will suffice? For those who prefer not to pay tribute to the telecommunications gods through monthly cell phone bills, the Visor Deluxe is an affordable, convenient PDA.

Summary: So far so good.
Review: I bought my Deluxe two weeks ago and so far it had been living up to my expectations. I had difficulty deciding on whether to buy a Zire (which have a newer OS but unexpandable RAM) or a much older Deluxe but now I think I have made a wise choice. 2MB RAM of Zire is really not enough. Even Noah's Lite (a dictionary application) is more than 2MB!

After you bought your PDA you will definitely want to load in more programs as you will want your PDA to do more than keeping addresses and to-do-lists. You will probably want it to be able to download news so that you can read it later at home or on the road. There will be some Office documents and you will want to carry around with you (reference manual etc) and maybe download some e-books. If you want to do all the above and maybe more, get a PDA with 8MB RAM at least. I have used up almost 75% of the RAM space I have.

There are lots of application out there that is still supporting Palm OS 3.x. So there shouldn't be a problem in finding applications that fit your needs.

Some advice for anyone that are interested in buying an entry level PDA. Buy this! I am not sure about other countries but it is cheaper than Zire in Malaysia. There are limited stocks out there in the market b'cos Handspring had discontinued this model. So act fast before it's to late!

Summary: Once Upon a Time There Was a Good Company...
Review: Once upon a time there was a good company called Handspring. I think they hired a bean counter or they got greedy or both. Customer service from this company is better described as customer disservice. The product itself is okay but not spectacular. It will get the job done but you will, if you're anything like me, find lmitations that really could have been ironed out with a little more r&d. I bought the device based on the customer service. That customer service is no longer available. I HIGHLY recommend one of their competitors.

Summary: Fragile and Tempermental
Review: I have had 3 of these Visor Deluxes over the last 3 years and all I can say is I hope my new Sony lasts longer. It sure works better than the Visor Deluxe. My advice, get a Palm or Sony. Forget Handspring until the quality goes up>>>

Summary: Garbage Product, Garbage service
Review: While shopping for a new organizer Handspring seemed like the best choice for the price out there. How very very wrong I was. My Organizer came with a 90 day warranty and just after 90 days it crashed. None of the resets recommended worked nor was there anything on their web-site that was helpful, so I called their support line. After dumping a large sum of money to buy this product just over three months ago they wanted another ($$$) before I could even tell them what was wrong with my organizer. If 90 days is all that Handspring thinks their products are good for, and if they only last 90 days you will be far better off buying something else, anything else. I even wrote to their customer service telling them how disappointed I was, but they don't care. They got their money and don't want to hear from me again unless I give them more. If I were you I would never buy ANY Handspring product, because if it breaks they don't care.

Summary: Decent Palm Based Handheld . . .
Review: . . . but fragile, and quality is dubious. This Visor Deluxe is a refurbised replacement for my original Visor, which broke unexpectedly (and had many issues of it's own).

Good basic handheld, works well with Outlook 2000 (with the included Chapura Pocketmirror software). It's been fairly troublefree, with the exception of occasionally wigging out and requiring a hard reset.

Bottom line, it's a good handheld if you can get it inexpensively. Don't count on Handspring support, they charge & they're not that helpful.

Summary: Great Palm, but VERY fragile and NOT UPGRADEABLE
Review: Yes, the Handspring visor deluxe (VD) is a great Palm.
PRO's
1. 8MB memory
2. Small size
3. Springboard port
CON's
1. Can't upgrade OS
2. Fragile
3. Eats batteries alive if you use "backlight"
No, you can't upgrade the OS! The OS and other core programs (HotSync manager, Address Book, etc.) are stored in ROM (read-only-memory). Which means you can't upgrade it. The Palm can read it until it's blue in the face, but can't change it. Now, the 8MB where you install programs is RAM (random access memory) which means you can read and write. Secondly, it is totally fragile. I dropped mine ONE TIME and the screen broke ...Also, the backlight uses 3x of the normal battery power. ...But it does have 8MB of memory, more than enough I think. Also it is relatively small ...The springboard slot I listed as a Pro, but there are very few modules available, so it isn't much of a good Pro......

Bottom line, if you want a Palm cheap, get the Handspring visor deluxe. If you don't care about the non-upgradeability or the other cons, go for it.

But, I can't reccommend a Palm like this. Too fragile, not upgradeable. ...

Summary: Love it
Review: I use my Handspring Visor every day. I love it. The included Palm Desktop software for your PC is incredible.

Summary: A well thought out program, quickly delivered
Review: This is a relatively no frills PDA that works with my MAC. I lost my other Haqndspring and chose not to upgrade, and bought a refurbished model from this vendor. It came very quickly, in a sealed box, at a good price, and with all the extra equipment that normally comes with a new PDA.. The service was exemplary.

Summary: What would I do without it?
Review: I've had this handheld for a year now. To be honest, it was given to me as a Christmas gift, and I wasn't exactly thrilled about getting it. I was like, "What do I need a datebook for?" I am eating my words. I love this thing! Not only can you use it to jot down your appointments, but you can set alarms and look WAY into the future. There's a world clock, memo pad, a to do list, a decent calculator, and much more. However, what I like best is how you can download tons of games and share games with other handheld owners. I have bought Word and Excel to go on my handheld, and I've purchased the fold up keyboard, too. With this, my handheld is better than a laptop! I can work on papers at school without lugging around something huge (which is ideal for any college student). Plus, it's super easy to hotsync (storing stuff from your handheld to your pc and vice versa); all it takes is a touch of a button. While I love this handheld, it does have a few flaws:
1. Sometimes it freaks out, and you have to reset it, losing your info. However, when you hotsync, you get all the programs and files back(that you have saved on your PC)on it really quick, so you never have to reinstall software or anything. Plus, you can buy an attachment for about $$$ bucks or so that acts like a disk, so you can save your info. This is handy, so I suggest getting this if you are going to be doing a bunch of work on it.
2. It's not in color, and from what I've seen so far, you can't get pictures or anything on it. (If I'm mistaken, then I'm sorry).
3. If you like cuteness, then you may not like this one. There are many cooler looking handhelds out there; this one is kind of dull. However, for the price and its capibilites, it's worth the buy, no matter how it looks.
----This is a great choice for a first handheld!
