Summary: Handle with care
Review: As far as a pocket pc its a good buy. The thing is, never take it on the road, because its extremely delicate. I work in a semi-corporate environment (im a multimedia producer), so the item was never in a rough o dangerous environment. The item was 2 months old, and in mint condition, but the lcd screen one day burst. After waiting 3 months for an answer, the final reply basically was: (the customer service person was very nice and friendly and totally simpathetic) these are very delicate items, we regret what happened to you, but we invite you to purchase another. So basically the item in their eyes is a disposable $250 toy.

Summary: Very Handy - Beats Palm in my book
Review: Having used a palm based OS for a few years, I found it limiting - limiting in text entry, windows look and feel applications, etc. I did research on Pocket PC's and narrowed my choices down to the V35 and Dell's X5. Dell's offering was just a bit bulkier then the V35 and since I wanted something easy to carry, I decided on the V35.

If you have Windows XP, save some time and frustration; you will need to download a new version of ActiveSync. It's easy to do and Viewsonic's tech support will walk you through it if desired.

After installing the new version, synching and download files is a breeze. I love the fact that you can download important Excel spreadsheets and Word documents so you have them right at your fingertips! You even have a powerpoint viewer (how cool is that!).

You have four different ways of inputing text - you will be comfortable with at least one.

I've easly downloaded pictures and music to a SD memory card, which makes this handy little machine very versatile. I know most of these features are available on all Pocket PC's. I just like the V35's form factor (slim and light)and extermely bright screen. Battery life is a bit on the light side, but not a limiting factor in my opinion. I even ran out of power once, but my data stayed intact.
One downside is if you want to purchase Viewsonic branded accessories, they're exteremly hard to find at your local store (and even on Amazon). I paid $199. which I think is a great deal. Not the fastest on the market, but plenty of power of business and personal use.

Summary: Good Beginner PDA
Review: I bought this about 1 month back, picked it over the Hp-1910 or toshiba 335, because it is light and also it has a bright screen. For those using just the basic functions like keeping schedule, word or excel docs or playing games, this PDA is excellent.

Pros:
Good display
Very light
Handy (and really fits in pocket)
Good battery life in low power mode

Cons:
Dock design could be better.

Summary: No device expansion option
Review: At this price, asking for built-in wireless may be unrealistic. However, the choice of an SD expansion rather than a compact flash one severely limits the accessory choices (such as wireless and GPS) that one add to the device. Viewsonic should have designed the product with expansion capabilities, which it does not. I would have given this a 5 star rating if not for this glaring design flaw.

*Note: Viewsonic has come out with the V37, which does have wireless capabilities via an SDIO WiFi Card. Make sure that your version comes with Pocket PC 2003 because Pocket PC 2002 does not support SDIO.

Summary: I was a very skeptical pocket pc buyer...
Review: I must say that I am very happy with this ppc, as I had never known that Viewsonic-a company well known for its monitors-could put out a top quality ppc. I have found an abundance of free (legal)pocket pc applications/programs, and am suprised at the capabilities of this little thing.

Let me reinerate that I am a cynic's cynic. I am that guy who wont buy from the internet because I would rather test things out with my hands, I wont buy a book to learn about it-would rather try 20 things until it works-get under the hood kinda guy. I do all my research on the net and then go into a local store to test and buy. I waited for a very long time until the pocket pc's went down under three hundred bucks and decided to go for it as a temporary substitute before I got a laptop.

The programs are quick and responsive, Pocket Word/Excel-Windows Media Player run very well. Microsoft Reader works ok-see below. To play videos you have to download a ppc video player-I got pocket tv, for my photos I downloaded resco picture viewer. There have been complaints about the plastic shell, and about the cheap looking construction. Who cares? I dont-it is a simple looking device that is VERY light and not so small that you need reading glasses. (alot of people seem to think the smaller the better-why would you want a ppc so small that you hurt your eyes reading an ebook?) I bought a keyboard for it-the full size foldable type for sixty five and can type up whole papers for school and edit documents for work. The sound from the mp3 wmplayer is good but you can always download something with more eq options. The voice recorder is a great bonus.

On the negative side there was several problems that I eventually got past but be prepared for- My home computer has windows xp and it NEVER has problems recognizing any USB item until now. I had to download a newer version of activesync to get it to recognize my viewsonic. Another problem was with Microsoft Reader, I downloaded an ebook, and for some reason the viewsonic would crash and freeze when I tried to turn it off-IT WOULD STAY ON DURING THIS FROZEN STATUS! I had to do a soft reset to restart it. Then once I forgot about it freezing and it COMPLETELY DRAINED THE BATTERY and I lost all my data-thank God for activesync because it put the data back into to the ppc.

All in all, it is a great ppc despite some bugs for two fifty not a bad deal. One of the cheapest ppc's on the market, and the best quality you can get for the price.(Trust me-after 2 years of research)Holler at me if u have probs.

Summary: Love it - best buy
Review: I used to have a Compaq iPaq and really liked it. I left my job and had to buy a new PDA, and stumbled across the Viewsonic. It's excellent - smaller than the Compaq with virtually identical features. Really pleased with it.

Summary: awesome!
Review: This thing is great! Its cheap (comparitively), small and I haven't had any problems with it in the 3 months I've owned it. I bought a 256M memory card so I can load it up with mp3's. I'm much more impressed with the v35 than I'd thought I'd be - don't let the lack of a big name product scare you off.

Summary: Best Pocket PC for price
Review: I could go on and on about what the Viewsonic V35 does, but I feel it is more important that I compare it to other pocket PC's in it's price range. I did a lot of research before I bought my Viewsonic V35, and I ended up basically up between the Dell Axim X5 300Mhz. The Dell turned out to be slightly cheaper, but it did not come with a cradle nor did it come with a leather case. You would eventually have to get at least the leather case, or your screen won't look too good after a while. After buying all the stuff for the Dell that would come with the Viewsonic, the Dell would be more expensive. Basically, I only considered models with a transflective screen since anything else looks foggy and milky. So that left me with the Dell Axim X5, the HP 1910, and one of those overpriced toshiba's. When I looked at the HP 1910, it had a slightly better looking screen than the viewsonic, but the viewsonic was a close second. I got to play with the Dell at one of their kiosks and their screen was okay, but not as good as the Viewsonic's. I read the reviews for the HP 1910 (really a compaq) and many customers complained about stability problems and the unit turning on by itself and draining it's own batteries. This unreliability is consistent with compaq products. So I immediately ruled out the 1910.
Since all of these pda's are running windows, there isn't too much difference except in stability and portabilty. The Dell Axim is by far the bulkiest pda I have ever seen which is another reason I ruled that out. Even with free shipping I received the V35 in only a mere 3 days. I was impressed with it's size and stability, as expected. I have not had problems with the V35 so far and I've had it for over a month. If I played MP3's continuously, it lasts just over 3 hours, which doesn't sound too good, but keep in mind this is better than most other PDA's. In all other activities, such as writing notes and scheduling things on my calendar, a whole day of this didn't come close to running low on battery, so I assume games and music eat up a lot of your battery, otherwise it is great. The directional pad is great for games (not so on the Dell), and there is a plethora of games available for free on the web. I use my pocket PC both at work and at school and the pocket pc always comes in handy. I have used Palm OS 5 for a few years and can tell you that it looks EXACTLY THE SAME as it always has. Palm hasn't bothered to be innovative at all and has rehashed the same nonfunctional operating system 6 times. To be honest, Palm OS hasn't changed much in the past 4 years and is not as flexible as a pocket PC. I couldn't find a reason to stick with Palm anymore. I had no problems synching the V35 to my PC, it was fast and took about a minute. Overall, the V35 is a reliable, cost effective, and has a beautiful screen. Viewsonic has had a good reputation for its other products, and so far lives up to it's name.

Summary: Fabulous!
Review: I have owned my ViewSonic V35 for a while now and it's constantly pleasing me. It has a very fast 300 MHz processor, very thin and lightweight, and its color screen was larger, brighter, and had more tone to it when compared to other PDA screens. It also has an MP3 player on it which is neat for when your sitting in the car and you can listen to music to make your ride more enjoyable. What I also like very very much is how well it can syncronize with my computer and Microsoft Outlook. It keeps everything very organized and helps me see what my schedule is for the day. It is also a great price for everything the V35 has for you. I have recomended the ViewSonic V35 to my friends and a few of them had bought it and they all respond with good remarks. I HIGHLY suggest that you buy the V35 because it has everything you need and want in a PDA,its body has a very suave and sleek look; and better yet, its a low price for what you get.

Summary: Everything I need... I think
Review: I have been pondering buying a pocket pc for almost two months but had a hard time justifying the huge price of most of the product offerings... until I discovered the V35 on Amazon.com. At [$$$], it became justifyable. I then searched the web for info on the V35 and was impressed. It took about 5 days to arrive ..., but was worth the wait. When I said that it does everything I need... I think, I meant that I keep finding new ways to use it to improve my productivity and accuracy in my life. Plus its a cool toy. This is my first Pocket PC, limited experience with a Palm V (no comparison), but I am impressed with all it can do. Pocket Excel, Word and Access, the regular PDA stuff (calender, contacts, tasks, notes), pocket Internet Explorer (AvantGo rocks), and Media Player. I bought a 256K SD card from Amazon.com for [$$$]... and downloaded 5 hrs of my favorite music to the SD card so I have all my tunes all the time. Downloaded Pocket Bible ... for [$$$] and multiple versions NKJV [$$$], KJV free, Ampliphied [$$$] and don't need to carry my big Bible anywhere. Last item. If you are going to have it on a lot or listen to a lot of music, get a power cord because I was running out of power before I ran out of music. I picked up a good generic A/C adapter and a car adapter from ...Problems I have encountered:
1) Back, forward and home buttoms disappeared on internet explorer so I could not change pages. Spent 15 minutes on hold with tech support, they had me press soft reset button on back and everything has been fine.
2) Could not get a couple files (a word doc and an excel spreadsheet) from my pc to sync with my v35. Could not find anything to help me out in th books, in the help section of the software, or online, and the error message was not helpful. Kept saying to "make sure enough memory available, not read only or the you are allowed" turns out you can not copy a file from one folder to the pocket pc folder. You need to select it then select "move to" and select the pocket pc folder in order for it to allow a sync.
