Summary: The Good And Bad
Review: 1st let me state the good. The sound is great if you stay in one spot. They are very confortable. If your better half gose to bed early and you want to sit and jam, you'll need these.
The bad. They wont reach 50 ft. without cutting in and out.
Static will come and goe no matter where you are.
Over all if you have the bucks to spend the aw791 has great sound close to the transmitter. --This text refers to an alternate option.

Summary: Poor quality product
Review: About a month ago I wrote an extensive review of this Advent product. I was very critical. Awkward controls, poor reception, etc. The bottom line is that I thought the quality was so bad that I returned it for a refund. Then I bought a Sennheiser wireless model, and I have been mostly pleased with it. 9/25/01

Summary: Fancy name, terrible product.
Review: AW781 wireless surround headphones where my 3rd pair of wireless headphones. I bought these in the hope that their reception would be better than my previous pairs. I was very disapointed with the quantity of static and reception interference, even at one meter from the transmitter a loud buzz could be heard. Its so bad that wearing the headphones during moments of audio silence is uncomfortable. The reception keeps cuting out too, suddenly the sound goes dead and the headphones dont work for a few minits. I'm not very pleased, and im probably going to take them back for a refund. --This text refers to an alternate option.

Summary: So why get them?
Review: Because they work.

The quality of Dolby 5.1 surround sound is incredible. You feel like you are in the movie itself.

A few caveats. The fiber optic cable was a bit to short of my set up. I had to buy another 3 foot cable and a cable connector. These were not hard to find.

The headphones uses 3 AAA NiMH batteries. I always keep several charged around in case I forget to turn of the headphones and return them to the charging cradle. The cradle recharger is much slower than commercially available NiMH quick chargers, so this might be a good option for you as well. --This text refers to an alternate option.

Summary: Do not recommend
Review: Debated between Sennheiser and Accoustic Research products and chose wrong. One earphone broke off taking it out of the packaging. Apparently the ear pieces are held on by a piece of plastic 1/8 by 1/4 inch thick that snaps of easily. Hissing sound, unless direct line of sight. Later, started hearing "crackle" every tens seconds despite trying several configurations. (...) --This text refers to an alternate option.

Summary: Worthless
Review: From the overly complicated set-up process (you have to tune the base station and the headset to the same channel) to the constant adjustments (there is a bizarre system for maintaining a signal that requires changing volume levels on both the base and the headsets) to the intermittent static, these were a real disappointment.

On the other hand, when they actually worked they did sound pretty darn good.

Summary: Lots of static on the AW791's
Review: Good base, great depth but I returned them because of too much static. No matter if I was 1 foot or 10 feet away from the transmitter, there was always static. --This text refers to an alternate option.

Summary: A Piece of Junk
Review: Got an AW791 for Father's Day. What a disappointment! Extreme static at any location on freshly charged batteries. Manufacturer says you can use them up to 300 feet away from transmitter. That's not my experience. I get cutouts in less than 60 feet. I should have figured it was junk when the salesman said he had only sold one and that one was soon returned (he didn't know the customer's complaint). Oh well, live and learn. --This text refers to an alternate option.

Summary: If not for the static...
Review: I agree with the other reviewers who noted the ear cup attachment broke too easily on these headphones. When mine were delivered one of the ear cups was already broken and I had to send them back. Didn't even get a chance to listen to them but based on their lack of structural integrity I will be going with one of the Sony products.
