Summary: Absolutely incredible
Review: This is a must-have product. Although I have not used one (yet), I have used similar strength Macs. The 800MHz G4, coupled with a flat screen, firewire, USB, all in a quiet compact package with obvious aesthetic appeal is a winning combination.

Consider the concept of the digital hub. I will use this machine to store ALL of my CDs as MP3 files, using the incredible iTunes. The music will be accessible in multiple ways, and played via mini plug to RCA cables to my stereo. Finding tracks/songs/artists is no longer a problem. Creating playlists is a breeze (take all of this with you with the iPod).

Apply the SAME logic to digital pictures with iPhoto. Suddenly storing/using/printing pictures (or even hardbound picturebooks) is a no-brainer. Now extend the logic to digital movies and iMovie. Shoot/edit/burn right onto the built-in DVD burner. Storing movies/pixs/mp3's is simple enough for my 8 year old but powerful enough for professional work.

All of this, of course, on a sweet machine that is wirelessly linked to my cable modem via Airport (providing 128bit encryption, built-in firewall, ease of use and setup second to none). Throw in Mac OS-X (now included and the default). This OS is ABSOLUTELY ROCK SOLID, absolutely beautiful, and a pure joy to use (in my household, from ages 8 to 47). Still need to interact with Microsoft data from work or friends? (ie Word, Excel, Powerpoint?) No problem. Mac Office (version X) is DIRECTLY compatible with ALL versions of those MS programs from the Windows side. Read/write the file and send it on back to your coworkers. They will be able to open/use the file directly (no translation needed) just as if it came from a windows machine.

The new iMac to this reviewer is a near perfect compilation of aesthetics, power, ease of use and functionality. It can truely change the way you do things, both with a computer (if you are new to the Mac, you will be blown away on how easy many things are that you may have thought were difficult on your windows box) and in other ways (ie listening to music, working with digital pictures and movies). Best of all, just put it where you want it to be and WIRELESSLY connect to the internet with Airport!

Sweet!

Summary: New All-in-wonder iMac does it all.... at the right price
Review: Apple's latest iMac overhaul can be described in one word: breathtaking. The high-end model, priced at just $1799, packs dozens of useful features into a sleek UFO-styled chassis. Every one of these features is designed to spark the creativity and ingenuity of the end user. The built-in CD and DVD burner allows you to author your own discs (with the help of Apple's intuitive software). And the easy-access upgrade panel on the bottom allows even the most computer-illiterate Joe Schmoe to install extra RAM or a wireless AirPort card. I kind of wish the display had a larger resolution (it runs at 1024x768) but its hard to complain when the display quality is otherwise so bright, crisp pristine. Plus the iMac comes with a fairly powerful graphics chip which is more than adequate for today's 3D games.

My only complaint about the iMac is lack of upgrade options. Yes, you can replace the hard drive if you wanted to (its not easy though) but you can't add any additional PCI cards as the iMac lacks internal expansion slots. But the iMac never had expansion slots and it's my opinion that consumers simply don't need this feature - nor would they want to mess with it. The iMac can easily be expanded via the USB or high-speed FireWire ports, which should suit 99% of the users just fine.

I highly recommend the $1799 iMac to the "prosumer;" i.e. anyone interested in multimedia, DVD authoring, and graphic design. It makes a great machine for high school and college students too, since its svelte design allows the iMac to fit comfortably even in the tiniest of dorm rooms. Whether you're a current Mac user or a PC-convert, you can't go wrong with the new iMac.

Summary: WOW
Review: Have not used one yet but, WOW. The features are amazing. DVD burner, G4 Chip, and LCD screen. Why buy the G4 tower that costs so much more. New iMac does it all. Can't wait to try one out!

Summary: I like mine but I know I paid too much
Review: I am pretty used to the MacOs so I stuck with it when I decided to buy a new computer. However comparing what I got to a Windows PC didn't make me feel good. For 1/2 the price you can buy a PC with the same features, flat screen and speed. So I paid over 500 more for the privilege of using the MacOS. If I knew how to use Windows I would have switched. I was pretty steamed.

Summary: World-class computing
Review: Why in the world would anyone want the hassle of Windoze when you can have an art piece like this? I guess some people like self abuse. A truly wonderful computer.

Summary: The nearly perfect computer
Review: I have been a PC user for years. I even work for a software company that only runs PC's. I finally made the switch and love the new iMac. I will start with the only negative since that list is so short. I wish I would have bought the 17 inch. That was my choice, not the computers. I had the machine up and running in minutes. I had it sharing an internet connection with my three PC's in a few more minutes. I was importing digital pictures from my camera next. All of this in less than 30 minutes. I then hooked up my printer and printed some pictures. Just like the ad's say, I never loaded any drivers, had any crashes or any other problems. A great screen, fast processor and easy to use. I will be burning my first DVD later today so stay tuned or should I say ituned....

Summary: This computer is fast
Review: This computer shouldn't even be called a computer. IT should be called a companion. Because that is exactly what it is. I bought one of these when they first came out, and have since been hooked on it. It works so well, its fast, never crashed, and it very easy to use. First off, the exterior is awesome, the screen is razor sharp, and easy to look at. The base is also sweet, and it holds the screen in seemingly mid-air. But the real reason to buy this is for the software. Running OSX, with iMovie, iDvd, and iPhoto, sharing, editing, and creating digital media has never been so easy. Hook up an iPod, and you really do have the center of the digital hub.

Summary: Newbie Switched, Struggled, but Happy as a Clam!
Review: I switched! I read the reviews, got excited, and bought online to save sales tax ... I felt the same when I bought my Harley Davidson: part of a special family. I need to start by mentioning that getting connected was not as easy as others describe. I got some setup information from my ISP but it didn't work quite as well as I expected. The documentation supplied with the machine is great for setting it up but manuals for individual programs, or simple navigation is weak for newbies. I finally got connected to almost 56K and things are working well. With that said, I can't tell you how smart this machine is! I purchased a new Sony digital camera which came with a CD-ROM software program and instructions on how to install. I put the disc in my desk drawer, plugged in the camera and the Apple recoginized the camera, and accepted my digital shots without any Sony software! I'm creating an album from this summer's vacation, burning CD's for family members and feeling great about moving away from MS! I hope Apple's "Switch" marketing program does well. More people on this planet should have a mac!
