Summary: Buy one if you need one.
Review: Buying a computer nowadays is like getting a cell phone. You don't really need one but you want one, just like the next person. Most people buy a computer thinking the internet is the next best thing. No. Unless you are a hermit and want to live your life inside a cave, then get a computer, a cell phone, and lots of food. Or you just happen to be a geek and have no life. If you want to "surf the web", shop online, chat, email(still part of surfing the web), or play games, then any computer operating system will do. Just about. Then you need to consider the games you like(most popular games are available in both platforms, mac or pc), the amount of time you will be wasting, the money you will be wasting, and the life you will end up wasting. You will need to consider the "frustration factor", where ease of use, ease of learning, which amount to the time wasted working on your computer, not with your computer. Try both platforms and don't listen to salespeople on what to buy. Then decide which one works best for you. I did, I have both, mac and pc.

Summary: Big things come in small packages....
Review: For those who need a really stylish computer for an office space, I would definitely recommend this computer. True to Mac tradition, this computer is very stylish and ergonomic, but also provides some very nice features any computer enthusiast will like.

First off, I really like the swivel monitor. Because of its good design, the monitor is easy to adjust, and stays in place once it is set. Also, because of the design, the computer takes up very little space on the desk, which leaves plenty of space for all the paperwork you have to do. :) Despite its size, this Mac contains a wide array of features that have been cleverly integrated including Airport cards, CD-Rom, and so on.

Lastly, I need only say that it runs very fast, and the flat screen is very clear and sharp. As far as Macs go, this should be one of the first on your list. It makes a wonderful computer for work and office, and like most Macs, it will last you a long time. I consider it a worthwhile investment.

Summary: This is supposed to be a gaming machine?
Review: I admit it I brought into all the hype surronding the new iMac, and well I learned my lesson with Apple the hard way. ... The games are better looking but don't seem to play right. On my iPod (only thing from Apple I do like) it seemed just to not go fast enough even on a fat DSL line! 5 minutes to download. Well after fighting with this machine for a week I got a new computer.

Review: I admit it I brought into all the hype surronding the new iMac, and well I learned my lesson with Apple the hard way. What a peice of garbage. The games are better looking but don't seem to play right. On my iPod (only thing from Apple I do like) it seemed just to not go fast enough even on a fat DSL line! 5 minutes to download. Well after fighting with this machine for a week I got a new computer. Not an Apple but something far better an Alienware. Its just amazing it runs quickly, it dosent crash. I think many people don't realize that the good computers arn't made by Dell, HP, Compaq, or IBM. There made by Alienware, Falcon, and Voodoo. I recommend you check out those machines first. There low end models which are in the mid to high 1000's are way better than the high end gaming machines from Apple, Dell, Compaq, HP, or IBM. ... Even if your not into gaming there alot better than any other machine out there. Also don't say because its Windows that it ... Windows has finally cought up with Apple, it has a movie maker and everything a Apple has its just simpler and more software is supported!

Summary: No good for games
Review: I bought my iMac just a few months ago with the expectation that I would get a few good years of use out of it. Instead with the very first game I installed (Warcraft Reign Of Chaos) I found I couldn't run it a the top quality settings. Oh the game will run, but I found the best I could get out of Allied Assault was vastly inferior to what my friends could get out of their PCs. It was embarrasing. It appears that the problem is not the CPU speed, but the graphics. This iMac comes with built in nVIDIA GeForce2 MX video card. This card does not support all of the latest video standard. To get that you have to get a computer with a new ATI or nVIDIA graphics cards. Apple sells systems like this, but they cost twice as much as this computer. Now the insulting part is that the new graphics cards only cost about fifty bucks more! Apple could easily put better graphics in this iMac, but then it would be as good it's more expensive offerings. Other than that I have enjoyed my system. I find it works great for ripping MP3s and surfing the web. It just burns me up that the day it arrived at my house it was unable to run at least one new game at the top settings. Was that too much to ask? Now I just have years of even worse gaming performance to look forward too.

Summary: A solid investment
Review: I brought into all the hype about the new iMac like I did way back in 1998 (wow time sure does fly)! Back to the subject. Your probley wondering does it live up to the hype, yes, yes, and no.

I've got to say that it sure is beatiful to look at but beauty is only skin deep. If you want to download tons of MP3's, play lots of games, make your own movies, and all that good stuff then you'll probley want to buy a PowerMac G4. I say this because the iMac is more built for Mac and computer newbies not the tech savvy people such as myself. If your new to the Mac univerise then you'll want this I also recommend buying a copy of "Mac OSX for Dummies" so you can learn to use your computer correctly.

Me personally I think I'm gonna stick with both my Alienware PC and my iMac. I think that Windows machines have finally cought up with Machintosh in stabilty and easy to use. The only thing I can say is if you really want to get a good computer you have to be ready to break the bank. The iMac is quite a bit more expensive than your run of the mill Dell or Compaq.

The Verdict(IMO):

If you owned the old iMac you probley have reached the limitatations so buy the PowerMac G4. But if your looking for a good family computer or a computer for your kid going back to school (depending on your feelings about a computer in your kids room). If your unhappy with your current Windows XP system go check out the iMac. But ultimalty if you want to get a high end computer be prepared to break the bank.

Summary: Apple can do better than this
Review: I love Apple, but this computer manages to be both incredibly underpowered and overpriced. Let's look at the specs:

Processor: 700 MHz PowerPC G4 compares with a 1 GHz Celeron or 900 MHz PIII. Did you notice that Intel stopped selling them a year ago (and that was at fire sale prices). This CPU should be retired.

Ram: 128 MB of 133MHz SDRAM. PCs come with 512 MB of 266MHz DDR-RAM and cost less!

HDD: 40 GB That was a lot before the days of MP3s, MPEG-4 and games that want 10GB. The PCs that Wal-mart sells for two hundred bucks have HDD bigger than that.

Video Card: nVIDIA GeForce2 MX. Which was discontinued by nVidia years ago and is beyond out of date and is verging on being prehistoric. 90% of the new 3D games coming out today will crawl like baby on this thing.

Display: 15" 1024x768. Hmm, even the cheapest 15" LCD is 1280x1024 and has twice the contrast ratio. This screen is built by Hon Hai and really isn't an added value (it's kind of the Kia of LCDs). The quality was great two years ago but the world has moved on and LCD screens have gotten much better.

How does Apple expect me to stay loyal selling ancient hardware for 2-3x what a more powerful PC cost? I used to work for Apple and I loved it there. A lot of my retirement is sitting in Apple stock and I am starting to worry. Honestly I don't know how they stay in business selling stuff like this. I'm surprised it doesn't come with an 8-track and a Beta VCR.

Summary: Best Mac Ever
Review: I ordered my iMac in Feb and had to wait 5 weeks for it.. It just about killed me... When it finally got here the wait was sooo worth it...The new iMac is impressive as is OS X..

This mac only takes up about 11 inches on my desk, I had it set up and running in 10 mins.. The mouse plugs into the keyboard the keyboard plug into the back of the mac and plug the power cord into the power outlet...Thats it!!!! I have so much more room now.. The screen is the best I've ever seen on a computer it is so crisp and moves with one finger to any height and stays there..

The dock in OS X is my favorite thing about X .. You can put all your programs and documents in it ... Everything is one click away just click on the icon in the dock and all the options are there for you...

The software that comes with the mac is awesome... itunes I feel is the best mp3 player out there.. Burning cd's is as easy as adding a new playlist click and drag the songs you want to burn in that playlist then click the burn cd button.. Then you have iPhoto.. You can crop your own photos inlarge them take out red eye, you can even make you own photo album..

I could go on and on... OS X is rock solid and the iMac is super fast... I am a ex pc user I switched to the iMac it was painless!!! I would recommend this computer to all...

Summary: A great all around computer
Review: I really love my IMAC. The good looks are obvious, the operating system is wonderful. I enjoy using it everyday. I have several Mac's. Two at home and 5 in my practice running the business.
I noticed one very bad review, where slowness of the OS was a serious problem for the writter. I'm sure if that fellow had bothered to keep up-to-date with OS updates (10, and 10.1 were slow), he's be using OS 10.1.5, like all the rest of us and loving the speed, beauty, and utility of the this OS. And with 10.2 (which Amazon sells, so you can buy it at the same time) being released in a few days. There is no way anyone would be able to say any windows operating system is superior to OS 10.1.5 or greater.
In short, will all windows people enjoy the change to the Mac OS? Of coarse not; we all resist change, and it's more comfortable to stay with what we have and thoroughly understand. But the people who open their minds to change will be rewarded by a superior system. My computer has been on with a number of programs open and running with out a single crash for many months. And I have never in 8 yrs had to reload an operating system EVER...
