Summary: Best computer Ive ever owned, but here's a few warnings
Review: 1) Beware of paint chipping off the white trim. The 12" and 17" models dont have this white trim because of this very problem.
2) The power supply that comes with it is poorly designed. If you spool the thin powercord around the hinged arms on the white box, you can easily wear right through the wire within a year's use.
3) The power supply also can easily break at the "head" (where the light changes from green to orange to indicate charging status). I am very ginger with it now, making sure I remove it sparingly and if so, slowly.
4) A replacement power supply which you can only buy from Apple will cost you [$$]. Other power supplies, although they may look the same, will not work with the PBG4. Talk about monopoly.

* word of advice if you still decide to buy this great computer: put a cheesecloth or papertowel over the keyboard when you have the Powerbook closed. Natural dirt from the keys will get on the screen, leaving marks that a friend of mine described as a chromosome map.

Overall: a wonderful computer. I carry it everywhere I go in my backpack.

Summary: Wow!
Review: Apple has done it again. The PowerBookG4 is an amazing computer. What makes this product stand out from the rest of the notebooks on the market is the obvious thought and attention to detail that went into the creation of this laptop.

First the hardware:
As an avid bicyclist, this computer spends a lot of time in my backpack on my back. Its light and thin so not only is easy to carry but does not take up valuable backpack real-estate. You would think that this portability would equate to a downsized computer something with a weaker processor or smaller screen to conserve battery life but just the opposite is true. 1ghz processor and a 15+ inch screen make this not simply a great notebook but also a great computer. Throw in either a super drive or combo dvd/cdrw plus a 60 gig hard drive and you may never use a desktop again. Aside from that add in a ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR SDRAM and you have a computer that meets your needs no matter what your current needs are of future needs may be.

Software:
If you are a windows person, as I was, you might be hesitant to switch operating systems especially if you have become pretty adroit within the confines of the Microsoft OS. The fact is though that the learning curve for OSX is very gentle. Navigation is intuitive and adding hardware: printers, pda's, ipod etc.. is very simple - just plug and play. One of the most amazing things for me, in getting this new laptop, was the wireless network card. When I turned the computer on for the first time it automatically got onto my wireless network. There was simply nothing for me to do but just begin transferring things over from my PC desktop to this network.

Finally Value:
The cost of the PowerBook probably makes you do more then just blink. When I told my wife the price of this computer, after I had purchased it (newly married guys take note it is better to ask/ beg for forgiveness then to get a sub par computer) she nearly throttled me. But, look at all that this computer has to offer. When you take into account all that you get and compare it to a similar configured PC laptop from.. oh, wait a minute. There is no PC laptop on the market that is of this high quality. Well if you compare it to a pc laptop that ALMOST rivals this baby you will see, very quickly, that you have been very cost conscious.

In Summary:
If quality, portability and sheer sexiness are attributes you look for in a computer then look no further Apple is for you.

Summary: The Apple Powerbooks--The most user-friendly of them all
Review: I am a 40-ish person with a number of disabilities, to say the least. I recently completed my 4-year degree in multi-media, and am an author. I became spoiled on Macs in college, as they were so user-friendly and could handle the fast speeds and multiple tasks we required of them. Macs were made to do graphics and animation--no PC or clone can keep up with them.
I recently got my own computer, and there was no doubt about it--I got a Mac. I chose a 15 inch G4 Powerbook with memory upgrade. The size is comfortable, and the weight is light, and it is unbelievable that it can do all it can do in such a small machine. I have several animation programs, as well as several office and publishing programs on mine. No matter what type of multi-media I do, this computer keeps up with all I ask of it.
This computer also allows those of us with disabilities to customize the screen to better serve us, such as using larger type, and may also work on verbal commands alone if one is visually impaired. I must lay in a reclining position much of the time due to pain, and the light weight and portability of this system makes using it a dream. It comes in several sizes to fit anyone's comfort.
If you want a good laptop, for any sort of use, get the G4--you'll absolutely love it!

Summary: Apple did it again
Review: I currently own an iMac G3 (500-MHz) and I've been checking out what Apple had to offer for the portable line. I'm a Mac user so there was no debate as to what type of computer to buy, but the real question was: iBook or PowerBook?

I got to play with this 15" beauty just yesterday. My brother is using one from his job. Well, I found that the performance of the laptop was very good. Applications ran nicely and the ATi graphics card is quite fast with games and iTunes visualizer mode. My iPod worked perfectly (of course) and I was able to transfer large files very easily. I like that this notebook uses an ATi card instead of a NVIDIA card because ATi cards are more efficient with portables but are still the fastest. I wish it had DDR-SDRAM instead of PC-133. I would have given it 5 out of 5 stars but some things bothered me...

Pros
• 15" widescreen (great for graphic design artists)
• Snappy performance (1 GHz: don't let the number fool you)
• large HD
• 512 MB RAM
• ATi graphics
• Great design
• DVD burning capabilities
• Mac OS X

Cons
• The fan is noisy
• Battery life is terrible compared to the iBook
• Heavy compared to an iBook
• Wow, these things get HOT on your lap.
• Expensive

Overall
I'm happy to have used both the iBook and PowerBooks now. The iBooks are great but they're becoming more obsolete since more intense programs require a G4 chip. But for the basics, the iBook is perfect. The PowerBooks are definitely powerful notebooks (even if the clockspeed is 1 GHz) but the only drawback is the battery life. Since I'm a college student, I need something powerful but portable. I think the 12" PowerBook is the best buy but the 15" and 17" are still incredible pieces of technology.

Summary: The Best iPod Accessory Ever
Review: I freely admit, I am writing this at the sunset rather than beginning of the Titanium PowerBook's technological lifecycle. But, as a died in the wool Wintel person, what is really remarkable is that, after a hiatus of about 10 years, I have bought a Macintosh again. You can blame this on a combination of three things - one of my computers died, I needed a portable, and I just bought an iPod. Supporting the latter, and getting my ears onto iTunes was the deciding factor.

There is no question that the Titanium is a superb computer. It is every bit as fast as my Pentiums, it is beautifully designed, and the 15 inch screen is a big plus for my tired eyes. But what is really amazing is the overall slickness of the operating system and its standard software. I was setting up a wireless network for myself when I bought the PowerBook. Literally the only thing I had to do to get it to fit in was to tell it to activate its internal Airport. Meanwhile, I am still fighting glitches in my windows machines. I plugged in my iPod, my cell phone, and my PDA and when I ran iSync I got all three devices and the Powerbook to synchronise. And this is typical of OSX's approach to seamless operation.

The Powerbook excels at graphics and music work, and that is where my interests lie. The included software provides basic functionality which can be fleshed out with a host of excellent software. And the Powerbook is certainly strong enough to run them. With a built in DVD burner as well as both USB2 and FireWire 400 connectors you can accessorize and gadgetize this machine to your hearts content.

Of course, there is a price to pay. OSX is different at heart than any Windows OS. Not in big ways, but in countless little deviations that will take a bit of acclimatization. Even purchased software life Microsoft Office will do unexpected things on occasion. I heartily recommend that you don't fall for Apple's "you don't need a manual" hype and go out and buy one of those 700 page volumes that ramble their way through the host of Macintosh features. The more you find out about this machine, the better it gets.

Summary: Easiest computer that I've ever used!
Review: I got this computer home today and am already completely set up (including moving all of my files, docs, etc. from my Wallstreet powerbook). I have been a mac user for a while, but OS X really blows away OS 9 (which beats windows any day). I recommend this computer highly, especially if you're interested in replacing a desk top with an equally powerful laptop.
