Summary: Sat 1805 review
Review: I am very pleased with the performance of my Satellite 1805. Weighing at 7 lbs. and under 2 inches thick, it is ideal for work(Windows ME) or play(great DVD) for a systems that is under $1200.
More than enough system memory(128MB) and HD(15-GIG) for what I need.A very good box at a very, very affordable price!

Summary: Good computer
Review: I bought this product in December, and have been frustrated by the recent price drop. However, I have been very happy with the computer itself. My biggest complaint, however, is how quickly the battery is used up when the DVD is played. The computer is powerful, with enough features to be worth the price. I would definitely recommend it.

Summary: Shuts down and Wont Read CDs
Review: I finally understand the low price it had, it worked fine the first week, but then I tried to put a cd on, it wont let me explore the contents. Then this week it started to shut down without saying anything (I use it always plugged, so it wasnt the battery). Ive been checking the forum of the toshiba support and all I see is tons of people having the same problems as I am. My advice is: pay some more and get a better machine.

Summary: It's easy to fix the CD exploring problem
Review: I got my 1805-S204 for $799 after a rebate and just love it. Great price, great performance, and great touch pad. To fix the ever annoying anti-CD-explore "feature" just right click on the CD drive in "My Computer", click properties, and under hardware, highlight the DVD-rom drive off the list and hit the properties button on this screen. Uncheck the "Enable Digital Cd audio on this drive" feature in the properties tab of this box. Fixed it *Instantly* on my machine. Exploring like a madman now. It may be a touch heavy, but a friend of mine who has a pretty new Compaq laptop says mine is much lighter (and runs *much* cooler) than his. As far as the screen being small, I look at this way. For $1000 you can buy: -A portable DVD player, that will play DVDs and some music or -A laptop that will do the same, and so VERY much more, with a screen twice as big. Who cares if some laptops have a 14 or 15 inch screen, I don't have an extra grand to throw around and the way these things are measured is kinda deceiving anyway, you don't see much of a real world difference bumping from 13.3 to 14.1, trust me.

Summary: what a piece of junk
Review: I have had this computer for 6 months and it has been nothing but a problem. It shuts down whenever it wants to. I have had the hard drive crash and 3 cdrom combo drives. As of now I have had no satisfaction from Toshiba. They just keep sending boxes and I just keep sending it back.

Summary: Biggest Waste of Money Ever
Review: I have owned several laptops over the years none of them Toshiba and had no problems. For my next Laptop I decided to save some money and purchase a Toshiba Satellite. This is the worst purchasing decision I have ever made.
In Six months, The machine has needed to be erased, and re-installed to factory setup 3 times. After spending days on the phone with toshiba "support" (you can't really call it support) the only response I could get was "That's normal, just be glad it starts at all". The touch pad has deteriorated to be unusable, the plug for the head phones has disintegrated somewhere into the laptop, the ethernet plug, cannot hold the wire (it just falls out), and the cd-rom disappers from MyComputer. I have to reinstall the cd-rom drive to get the computer to recognize it for a few hours. Most recently the keys have started falling off of the keyboard. After weeks of trying with customer support I have given up, and am going to another manufacturer.

Summary: You take the good with the bad
Review: I have owned the Toshiba 1805-S254 for 3 years now. it has been a pretty reliable computer overall. No problems with the DVD or issues with ports of any kind. If I can fault this computer, it would be the ever persistent overheating issue everyone mentions. My laptop started to overheat 3 months or so after I purchased it. It is indeed a design flaw, and I believe it to be mainly the cause of dust. Dust gets stuck in the fan screen, and ends up overheating the laptop. While the problem is persistent, it can be helped by a) having your laptop slightly elevated so that it does not have dirrect contact with the desk, and b) blowing air into the fan opening to clear at least some of the dust out.
The only other I have had is a battery issue. Mainly, that the battery is pretty much dead and takes very little charge. (it lasted perfectly 2 years) I can't say however that this is a product fault since most batteries are expected to last 2-3 years.

Summary: Best Toshiba I've owned!
Review: I just looked at the reviews for this laptop and was surprised when I didn't see a solid 5 stars. I've owned about 20 different Toshiba laptops since 1996 and without a doubt the 1805-S274 is the best I've owned at ANY price! It came with everything I needed (except XP Pro) and hasn't frozen once in 6 months of extensive use! The reason I've had so many different machines is that I'd use them for a while...they would get a little "buggy" and I'd give them to a new employee. I'm hanging on to this one because it's perfect. No Complaints at all!

Summary: A piece of junk
Review: I kick myself every time I try to use this worthless piece of frustration. I hate it. It shuts down all the time. The sound card doesn't work. Half the time, when it boots up, the screen is black. Keep rebooting, and eventually, it will display and image. I hate it. I hate Toshiba products. I will never ever buy another one. And, of course, all this started immediately after it was out of warranty.
