Summary: The Truth
Review: Before I bought this product I read these reviews the same as you are doing now. I found a lot of guys saying that this product sucks. Do not hear them this is the best mp3 player that I have tried. The sound is awesome very loud and clear. The installation took me 5 minutes. It was more that I spected. If you want to ask me something before you buy it you can write to citosys@enlared.net

Review: Before you consider this product - Do you have an EPP parallel port scanner with a printer passthrough? If you answered "yes" be prepared to either add a parallel port to your computer or scrap your scanner. This product uses an ECP parallel port. That being said - the f-20 is easy to set up and sounds GREAT! For the price, you can't beat the F-20 with a stick.

Summary: Nice price and convenient!
Review: By the time I receive my $30 rebate from the manufacturer, I will have only paid $50 for this machine. That's pretty good for a machine with 32MB of flash memory built in. Fair warning--this product may or may not for the technologically weak at heart: it all depends on what happens when you open the box. Do you know where to plug it in? Will it work on your system? Can you figure out how to use the software? Once you insert the CD-ROM, you can approach the entire thing by using the extensive manual, or you can just gun it like I did. I am not a computer genius, but I figured it out in less than 10 minutes. NO--it isn't compatible with NT, but I would expect that they will release some form of software update at their website that would correct this problem eventually. But if you've got Windows 95 or 98 (the majority of us), you should be good to go. As far as plugging it in--it's quite simple. I have a Gateway Essential and the cable connects right into the port for the printer. The software was very simple to work--it uses a drag and drop system and songs take about 30 seconds each to copy from your hard drive to the player. Once the songs are on there, there's nothing else left to do but shut off the program, unhook the machine, and enjoy your music. Erasing songs is a breeze also. What I love about this machine is it's so small and durable. On days when the world's got me down, I can throw this machine across the room and know that it will be okay. :) The battery life is good, too. People in earlier reviews have complained about the company (whose website is none too fancy) and tech support, yada, yada, yada. If you knew what you were buying and knew the system requirements, you wouldn't have to resort to using those fairly shoddy resources. But if that's something you're concerned about for one reason or another, this is not the player for you. Go with the Diamond Rio--and expect to pay a lot more. I have no complaints about my player. I'm listening to it right now. It fits in my shirt pocket and it's like it's not even there. But just so you know, this should not be considered a replacement for a portable CD player. I recommend owning both since you can take a lot more music with you if you've got a CD player. Sometimes mp3 players get boring if you're going to work and have to listen to the same 10 songs all day long. If you want more memory cards for mp3 players, you will end up paying the same price you paid for the machine itself or more!

Summary: Good when you get it working
Review: Compared to the Rio, the F20 has much better sound quality, and slightly better quality of construction. It has worse control ergonomics, and takes some fiddling to get the software working.

Summary: Win2000/XP Driver is finally available!
Review: Eigerlabs (officially MPMan.com, Inc.) seemed to have revitalized their business with a great new website, a bunch of new line of mp3 players, and....

the MUCH MUCH OVERDUE Win2000/XP driver for Eigerman F20! (which you can download at www.mpman.com)

F20 claims to be the first MP3 Player ever, invented in 1997. Quality wise I think F20 has an excellent sound quality and decent functionalities.

However, in light of today's more sophisticated mp3 players out there, you shouldn't even be thinking about buying it. Besides, they've discontinued the product anyway.

But thank you MPMan.com for the Win2000/XP Driver!!!

Summary: Don't buy this....
Review: Fortunately, Amazon was good enough to refund my son's money on this MP3 player. The software is un-friendly, customer support from EigerLabs nonexistent. It was unusable. Don't buy this...

Summary: Its ok
Review: Good sound, solid consturction. But, since it doesnt have much storage space you cant store many songs on it. Good buy for the price though.

Review: Great! 5 minutes and it worked perfectly. The sound was the real winner over the Rio, which I have used before. Buy it!

Summary: This dog won't hunt.
Review: I bought the F20V with high hopes and now wish I'd read the oneguy's review who said he wasn't an Eigerlabs "plant". Thismay be the greatest MP3 player known to man, but I'll never know; I've tried 6 different parallel port settings on a computer and port with which I've previously had zero difficulty. The net result is not a damned thing - I can't get the player to upload any MP3 files, Eigerlabs tech support won't respond to my e-mail or calls, and I'll be happy if PC Nation refunds my money so I can buy a player that connects via USB. Stay...away from the F20V. END
