Summary: Best of the Best in CRT.
Review: I also use this monitor for gaming, programming, and its high resolution and super refresh rates. This product is better in all aspects technically than any other CRT model out there. The visible lines that one other user complained about is totaly true. They're there, and they are there on all CRT models. Its part of the technology to keep the screen flat. I suppose this does pose a problem if you enjoy a perfect screen, but as stated by another user, this is an issue with ALL crt's and not just Sony's. Its like complaining that a canoe doesn't have a sail.

The only reason i took a star off is because of the high price. You can always expect a higher price from sony, because of the name, the guaratees etc. None of which are worth that much in the end.

Bottom line is that this is a great product that delivers. If your budget is tight, i'd suggest going with a Compaq CRT. They are much less expensive, and provide almost exactly the same quality. A layman wouldn't know the difference. But as i said when i purchased my HMD, nothing looks like a sony!

Summary: Great Monitor
Review: I just got this monitor for just 190 bucks. It's awesome -- especially at this price. As for the guy who complained about the "2 minute black lines", this is totally normal and is found on every trinitron monitor in existance, you dont't notice it during use and it is necessary to hole up the flat screen. Great Monitor, highly recommended. The noise is frightening to say the least, but since it only occurs as it turns on, no real problem there either.

Summary: This is a great moniter
Review: I must admit, This is fairly expensive, but when you demand quality... expect to pay the highest price. This mointer is capible of all sorts of "geomitry" configurations,,, so as you can get it to look great on any Operating System, with any graphics card. As other reviewers have said, it does make a very notice'able noise when you put it on, but who cares. As other reviewers have also said, there are 2 horizontal lines on the 19inch. This is built into the moniter, and there is nothing you can do about it. On PURE white, and playing some games it is notice'able if you look right at it, but if your about a foot away, this is trivial.

i have used this with many graphics cards, and from cheap (tnt2) to semi-high end (geforce4 ti4200), this montier works very good. I have it running on a ati radeon 9200 right now, 1152x864 pixels @ 100hertz refresh rate, and this is godly.

As another reviewer said, it "may" come where the screen is distorted,,, this also occures with diffrent refresh rates and graphic cards, Please note though, that the moniter is fully configur'able, and with some fine tuneing, will look perfect (a major plus).

The only downside, is the weight... This thing weighs a TON. I have a problem putting it on my computer desk, because it just weighs so much, so i had to put supports on the desk.

i work with alot of moniters, and there has yet to be one that can beat this in picture quality. refresh rates are un-notice'able on high hertz.

I would also recommend any other SONY moniter out there currently, even their LCD moniters are TOP NOTCH.

I have also had a 3 year old 19inch sony trinitron moniter, still works flawlessly.

The anti-glare feature is also a huge plus, it will dim artificial light, and this comes in very handy when working at night.

~Hope this helps

Summary: WOW - Clearest view I've every seen!
Review: I was looking for a second monitor and ran across this one in a local store. One word .... WOW .... I have never seen such a clear and crisp display. It made my initial monitor look like it was suffering from a fog attack. All i can say is that I am about to by another one for a dual monitor setup!

Summary: Great 19inch for graphics
Review: I work in front a of a monitor 10 hours a day and my old Viewsonic was causing me eye fatigue. I got this Sony HMD A440 to replace it and I've never been happier. This monitor is completely flat, it's bright, crisp, and has a high refresh rate. Text and graphics look great on it. All monitors have distortions - it's a fact. This Sony has a tiny bit of edge-bowing along the sides, but this can be worked out using the control knob. (I've definitely seen a lot worse distortions in other monitors!) Like all Trinitron monitors, this one has two tiny hair-sized lines that run horizontally across the upper and lower portions of the screen. Some people can be bothered by this, but as for me, it's BARELY noticeable. I mean, the only way you would notice them is if you were actually looking for them. During normal use, these lines are effectively invisible. I work on 3D graphics all day long, and I consider myself to be pretty demanding as far as my equipment is concerned. This Sony HMD-A440 19inch flat monitor is bar far the best 19inch I have used. It's great.

Summary: Love it
Review: PRO: COLOR!! Vivid/bright. Resolutions and refresh rates are top notch. Very easy on the eyes.

CONS: Price ...

I spent countless hours researching monitors before buying this. I can't tell you how happy I am!! I use it for heavy 3d gaming and fairly intensive graphics work.

If you can afford it BUY IT. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Good product but suffers from quality control issues.
Review: Researched a number of 19inch monitors, NEC, ViewSonic, Samsung. Finally picked this one up yesterday from ... I bought it becuase of the high refresh rates at higher resolutions. I coupled it with a PnY Verto 4200 GeForce 4 card which is awesome.

I'll be returning the monitor later today. Here's why:

The monitor makes an audible "Clunk" noise when powered on. This is the automatic Degauss on power up. Something Sony don't mention ANYWHERE. This also happens with their 27" TVs which I also have. (By the way, the Sony TV I have blew up after 100days of use, just after the warranty expired).

There are a number of geometry issues out of the box:
1. the picture is skewed to the left - fixalble with the controls
2. The convergence is off leading to fuzzy text in the corners. You can fix this but it makes the text fuzzy in the center of the screen.
3. The WORST thing I found is 2 minute black horizontal lines across the screen, the first is 1/3rd of the way down and the second is 2/3rds of the way down the screen. These are present in all resolutions. Also the fuzzy picture detracts from the comfortable refresh rate so that no longer is a reason to buy this monitor.

I'm giving it 2 stars because the picture isn't the worst out there but for ... you can do MUCH better.

I'll be picking up a Viewsonic ... exchange this 53lb piece of junk.
