Summary: All I ever wanted in a monitor, and I have a desk again
Review: After spending a great deal of time researching lcd flat panel monitors, I came to the conclusion that Viewsonic's VX700 had the most of what I wanted.
Excellent contrast, great color, good brightness, fast response time, competitive bad pixel criteria, digital input, good warranty.
I am very glad I chose this monitor.
First, resolution. As with all 17in lcd's, the native resolution is 1280x1024. Displaying in that resolution is nothing short of fantastic. Pictures and edges are crisp and clear. I was surprised and pleased to see that even in non-native resoltution, such as 1024x768 and 1152x864 the pictures are still great, I only noticed the tiniest bit of fuzziness because I was looking for it.
I do play single person shooters, mostly Unreal Tournament, and found that the response time the monitor claims (25ms) produces an acceptable seamless motion. There is a very slight after-image, but nothing that interupts or detracts from the game. I should note here that I am using an ATI 7500 video card, and using the digital out (DVI) to connect to the monitor. The card claims to be running at a 75Hz (V) refresh, but although I am sensitive to flicker, I see absolutely none.
Color, contrast and brightness are fantastic. Though I have read many complaints regarding lcd's and color, you'll get no complaint here. I've seen more colors with this monitor than I did with my crt, blacks are black, white is pure white. As for brightness, if anything, the VX700 is a little too bright. Contrast, as Viewsonic claimed, is terrific.
A couple other notes.
Viewsonic offers a 3 year warranty on everything. The monitor comes with cables for analog video connection, and european power, as well as american. Viewsonic's maximum bad pixel acceptability is 7, which was better than the other two companies I asked (at 9 each). Btw, my monitor had ZERO bad pixels, and I counted twice.
Lastly, I have my desk back, no more huge crt hogging all the space in front of me, Huzzah!

Summary: What a great monitor this is
Review: I bought this last month. What great color, brightness, and contrast, from all viewing angles. I'm using analog right now, haven't tried the digital input. I haven't found any dead pixels. The built-in speakers won't shake the floor but they're adequate for everyday use, including gaming. On top of everything else, the monitor's silver and black motif gives the joint a little class. It was expensive but I've had no regrets buying it whatsoever.

Summary: Superb
Review: I design and develop software, so I sit in front of the computer for 8 hours a day. I was using a 17" CRT that was past its prime. Upgraded to this VX700 as I already had a Viewsonic CRT as my home monitor and knew they made nice monitors. I can't speak highly enough about this monitor. I have the brightness set at 1/2, and it's as bright as day - you would be able to see the image easily if you were outside, and it's only halfway up. The built in speakers are lousy, but the picture is bright and vibrant. Can't comment on the response time (for gamers) as that doesn't apply to me. Also, the people who complain that it's blurry - make sure you turn off XP's "cleartype" enhancement for flat panels which seems to make them all look lousy - any negative reviews you've seen are most likely from someone who didn't know to change that setting.

Summary: Top quality flat panel
Review: I did quite a bit of research on the web and browsed many times through the stores checking the picture queslity of flat panels, and I always concluded that ViewSonic and Sony looked the best (without spending [$$$] or more). I chose the ViewSonic VX700 because it had all of the features I wanted, and after getting it all set up I'm even more impressed.

First of all, ViewSonic includes all of the cables you need with this monitor: DVI & analog, speakers, microphone, power. I hate it when I buy a component and the cables are extra - c'mon people!! Set up was as easy as connecting the cables - Windows XP did the rest.

The picture is unbelievably bright. I had to turn down the brighness/contrast from the factory because the whites were just too pure and bright! I immediately adjusted the refresh to 75 Hz as others recommend and there is no trace of flicker or shadowing - with text, internet, or games (I ran Black Hawk Down - not the fastest game but it looked perfect). As far as the speakers go - I believe the people saying they're too weak listened to Metallica on volume 10 for too many years! I find them plenty loud - setting them at about 75% is loud and comfortable. If you're looking for deep bass however, these don't do it. And, because they are so close together you don't get great stereo separation - true with any intergrated speakers. But for everyday use and games alike, the volume is more than adequate. My first priority is a clean desktop though, not high-end sound. The integrated microphone is a nice add-on also, helping make a clutter-free desktop. A back panel also hides the cable connections.

The profile is thin, the black/silver cabinet looks sharp, and the picture is crisp and perfect - and I have an analog hookup now....can't wait to see it with DVI! You won't be let down by this monitor!

Summary: Good monitor
Review: I did some investigation of flat screen LCDs both on the Internet and in local stores (Best Buy, Fry's Electronics, CompUSA), and it basically came down to the ViewSonic VX700 and the Sony SDM-X72. Ultimately, I decided on the ViewSonic VX700. Both products have a "dead-pixel" policy that scares ... me (7 dead pixels is considered acceptable), so I paid extra and bought my ViewSonic through a store and got an additional guarantee in case of dead pixels. The good news is that when I got home, I had no dead pixels. However, the mounting of the screen to the bracket on the back was slightly crooked (enough for me to notice) . . . one side of the screen was about 1/4" higher than the other side. Fortunately, this was easy to fix. I unscrewed the 4 screws that held the screen to the bracket and then readjusted the mounting so that it was level. That fixed my problem. Everything else about the VX700 is TERRIFIC! Great color; great contrast; great brightness, great clarity. I LOVE IT!! I'm not a gamer. I use my PC for real work. So I can't comment on how well the screen responds to fast action. But I did play a DVD (Lord of the Rings) on it, and it has a lot of fast action, and it looked PERFECT (no ghosting or smearing of images). All-in-all, I give this product 2 thumbs up.

Summary: Awesome.
Review: I got this as a gift for CHristmas 2002. I didn't ask for the VX700 but I got it. So I was hoping it ran well with GAMES because I am a heavy gamer (Counter-Strike, UT2003, and other high FPS games) At first I had some problems with the refresh rate @ 60. The games did the ghosting effect as said above in other reviews. As I played Counter-Strike it LITRALLY gave me headaches. So I tinkered with the settings and set it at 75. Counter-Strike runs perfectly fine. It runs perfect and smooth. I know how to configure monitors and such (very easy) and I made it run perfectly smooth. Do not pay attention to the reviews above since they do NOT know how to configure the monitors (n00bs). This monitor is awesome. GAMING AND ALL.

Review: Resolucion excelente, sonido muy bueno, controles de facil uso, el unico inconveniente es que no permite rotacion/movimiento horizontal izquierda-derecha y el vertical atras/adelante es muy limitado.

Summary: Good monitor
Review: The color and picture are excellent. My only complaint is that the monitor makes a weird snapping sound every 30 seconds after I turn it on. This lasts for about 5 minutes.
