Summary: iPAQ a great music machine
Review: I bought a Compaq iPAQ MP3 player to take on walks and to work. I'm totally pleased with it: sounds great, batteries have a long life, easy to use. Some people complain about how easy it is to bump the play button which pauses the music. Not a problem if you use the NORM/HOLD button.
My only complaint is the documentation: terrible! On the CD ROM you get two programs to download tunes. Neither the manual or the installation program give you a list of advantages of one over the other (but use Media Player 7 since wma compression allows more music than MP3). There is not a "step-by-step" how to load music. I have never used a player like this and it took me an hour to finally get music on it. The software is that confusing and Compaq's documentation isn't up to that companie's standards.
But other than poor documentation I have no complaints. It's light weight and if you like to listen to tunes when working out this is the way to go.

Summary: great little player!
Review: I love this little mp3 player. It is the smallest on the market that I have seen. It has great software. I love the sound it has; it is amazing that it comes out of a machine as big as a pager. It is a little confusing at first but nothing a little playing around can't fix. Overall this i a great mp3 player. One thing if you go to compaq's website you can buy it from them at [price] and it has a [price] rebate which makes it [price]. They also have a second version on the website which costs [price] but also has a [price] rebate. The second version you can upgrade the memory to 128MB which is double what this can take. In conclusion this is agreat mp3 player.

Summary: perfect size
Review: i bought my ipaq over two months ago, and i love it. it's perfect for the gym, because it's so small and 64mb is enough for about an hours worth of mp3s at ripped at 128. like most people have said, they do drain batteries, and those little earbuds fall out if you're on the treadmill. so, if you're going to invest in this product, also invest in a large supply of batteries and better headphones. the reason it only gets 4 stars is because i had to invest more money in other products. but at $150 (at some places, with rebate) this little guy is a great deal!!

Summary: not the best there is
Review: Well if you could get this mp3 player for FREE then maybe you should go for it, otherwise steer clear! The cost to keep up with the batteries has cost almost as much to buy the whole player! And the software it comes with is *horrible*--it takes forever to download songs to the the player, and its virtually impossible to delete a song once you've put it on there. (And don't even bother with the Compaq customer service..they're no help) Also, many times, it will only record the first 20 seconds of a few songs.(And then if you want to go back and delete that songs..well like i said--IMPOSSIBLE)One more thing. It doesn't even have a stop button on it...so no wonder it drains the batteries. Most of the CD's I make have about 20 songs on them, but this will only let you have about 13 songs max (thats including those few 20 second songs it sometimes records.) But the one good thing about it is its small and cute...so if its lookst that you are interested in, then this ones for you!

Summary: bad news
Review: This mp3 player might be ok if you are only interested in listening to 6 songs MAX. It takes too long to download songs from the computer onto the player and doesn't have enough memory to do ANYTHING. thank goodness i get a rebate.

Summary: Great sound quality and lifestyle congruent
Review: GReat product with amazing sound quality and the size of the device really allows u to wear it on your belt. The amazon price is a steal.

I did have issues with the software which hung a few times while transferring music from my PC to the player...

Summary: stop shopping and get this one
Review: I got my i-Paq PA-1 a week and a half ago. I absolutely love it. I spent days trying to decide which one to get, and finally pulled the trigger on this one. I'm so glad I did. I got it because I was sick and tired of carrying my Walkman around the gym. This thing clips right on your waistband and is so small and light, you'll barely even notice it's there! If you like to run a lot, like myself, the i-Paq will quickly become your best friend. This item only has a few drawbacks as far as I can see. This item does drain batteries rather quickly, so pick up some rechargable NiMH batteries, and you'll be all set. The belt clip covers the battery compartment which I thought would be a pain at first because that would involve finding a screwdriver every time you want to switch out the batteries, but it turns out you can loosen the clip to access the battery compartment by pushing hard on the screw with your thumb while turning. The software that comes with it is only supported by 98 or ME, but you can download the drivers for Windows 2000 - whew! The data transfer is a little on the slow side, but not so much that it's really a pain in the neck. Also, since it's USB, you can still do other things with your computer while copying to your i-Paq unlike anything that works off the parallel port. The software isn't all that intuitive and kind of flimsy, but you should get the hang of it after messing with it for a little while. The headphones sound good, but I'm not the biggest fan of earbud headphones - especially while working out, so I got a pair of Sony's for $... I was either going to get this or the Iomega HipZip, but the size and weight of the i-Paq is what sold me. It's also pretty durable too. I managed to drop it while on the treadmill at the gym - still works fine. Save yourself the time and trouble shopping around and get this one. You'll be glad you did.

Summary: Sweeet
Review: Excellent value. Compared to other products on the market I bought based on price, size and expandability. This unit has it all. I paid ... after rebate. Took advice of other persons review to buy recharable batteries, NiHD, with a nice compact Sanyo recharger. I recommend NOT using the RioWhatever manager...worthless software. Instead use Windows Media Player 7.x. It has a built in driver and detected it right away. Also set MP to transcode at 64k *.wma and you can get 51 songs on 64MB with fine quality. Enjoy

Summary: very good but not great
Review: the i-paq is a great little mp3 player. the sound quality is fantastic and the headphones are decent (if you splurge and get a better set like the sony or phillips clip's, you'll like it the sound that much more) the only downfall is that the player has this large button in the center that almost always inadvertently gets hit which pauses your music. other than this, battery life is good, and the software for mp3 transfer is easy to use and intuitive.

Summary: good player
Review: After a lot of research, I bought the Ipaq because I was looking for a small MP3 player with a reasonable amount of memory. I use it when I am on the stairmaster so CD sound quality was not an issue due to the background noise in the club. I use music match to rip files from my CDs. It allows you to change the windows media audio compression rate. After experimenting, a rate of 40kbps gives me very acceptable sound and over 3 hours of music.
