Description:

Optiquest's Q115 21-inch monitor is the company's largest CRT targeted at high-end professional use. Applications such as CAD and graphic design look right at home on this high-performance display.

The Q115 features especially high refresh rates, supported up to 88 Hz at 1,280 x 1,024 and a pleasant 76 Hz at 1,600 x 1,200 resolution. This support ensures flicker-free operation across the full spectrum of usable modes. There is 19.6 inches of viewable screen and the monitor sports a reasonable 0.26-millimeter dot pitch.

Our experience with the Optiquest Q115 was a very positive one. We found the generous screen real estate perfect for working with multiple applications--especially drawings and diagrams. Although this monitor features a flat square screen, we did notice some minimal distortion around the edges. However, it was not enough to significantly hinder the unit's performance, in our opinion.

The OnView onscreen controls are controlled via two buttons and a thumb wheel, located along the lower edge of the monitor's front. The available settings are quite adequate, featuring color temperature, tilt, pincushion, and our favorite, the zoom level, which lets you scale up horizontal and vertical size simultaneously. We did find that the controls took a bit of getting used to since they were less than intuitive.

The Optiquest Q115 provides great bang for the buck, delivering a high-performance 21-inch monitor for a mainstream price. If you want your next monitor to be a serious one, the Q115 is a great pick. --Stephen W. Plain
