Summary: Good Value Printer
Review: 08Aug99 I have owned my BJC-2000 printer for 3 weeks and remain quite happy with it. One of the accessories that comes with the printer that is not mentioned in the write-up is a cool little case designed to hold the ink cartridge and keep it from drying out while you are using one of the 4 optional print heads. The print head fits perfectly into the case and is compressed against a seal in the bottom when the lid is closed and squeezed down until it latches.

The picture quality is very good for such a budget printer. I purchased mine primarily for text printing and am using the BC-20 black print head which has a very large tank (good for aprox. 900 pages of text) compared to the much smaller tank of black ink (good for aprox. 225 pages of text) that is on the BC-21e color print head that is included with the printer. The BC-20 prints black text faster than the color head as it has 128 nozzles for black compared to 64 black nozzles on the BC-21e. The color head has replacable color and black tanks which are cheaper to replace than buying the entire print head. The print head is very easy to replace. It just drops into a slot and a lever is pulled forward to lock it into the holder.

When I purchased my printer Canon had a $30 rebate program that you might want to look into.

Summary: Warning - Stops Working
Review: Built-in obsolescence might be Canon's watchword with this printer. One year ago I purchased this for home use. Seemed great with sharp photo & text quality. Worked so well that I purchased a second for our small office and recommended a friend buy it a few months later. Within six months it refused to acknowledge ink in the cartridges - after buying three new cartridges. Canon's tech support was essentially useless, although he did admit it was a problem that had come up before.
So, my printer is useless, the one for our office did the same thing two months later, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my friend doesn't show up at my door with another broken printer.

Summary: It's a gamble!
Review: I absolutely love Canon products. The first 2 years with this computer was great until it just stopped printing this past month. I've done everything tech support has asked and then some and I feel that it's time to send this baby to printer heaven. It was a great buy, the cartridges are inexpensive next to the competition, and it worked fine til now. I guess mine only lived for 2 yrs. Better than what I've read in these reviews. My mother-in-law has the same model and she says that it still works fine. She's had it even longer than I have. So for what it's worth, it's definitely a gamble.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I bought a this printer because I trusted the Cannon name. I have other Cannon products that I enjoy but, this little printer is not worth the buy. It has only lasted me 2 years. I can buy a new printer for the price it costs to replace the print heads in this thing. It's a shame Cannon couldn't have made this printer better than it is. I recommend not purchasing this printer.

Summary: not bad at all....
Review: I bought this back in '99 with my webtv (which is now msntv). Once I got a computer I discovered I wanted a better printer. I never had a printer before so I have nothing to compare it to.

It lasted me for 3 years. It made a little noise, took about a minute to warm up, and a few seconds to touch the paper cause the ink can slighly smear. The ink tanks (which have 2, 1 for black and 1 for color) take awhile to empty with minimal use. The black is cheap, like 10 bucks, but the color is like 30 bucks. The 2 ink tanks come with the printer but the cable doesn't.

The main problem with me was the disc that came with it. The software isn't up to date with what's on computers now. So I caught hell with trying to install it.

This is great for college or simple printing.

Summary: Good printer for a good price
Review: I bought this printer because I wanted something inexpensive for some home printing. I was quite pleased with the results. However, it does use up a lot of ink and I've noticed that the print quality isn't always 100%, but it's very good otherwise. Don't buy this if you are going to do a lot of heavy duty printing, or if you have a small business, because it isn't the fastest printer. But if you are just going to do some home printing for fun, this is a good choice if you don't want to spend a whole lot of money. I know this isn't the best printer on the market, and like I said, don't use it for heavy duty printing or for businesses, but for a little home printing for fun, this is the right way to go!

Summary: Great printer!
Review: I bought this printer on recommendation from my dad, who says that the BJC-2000 is the only model they use where he works. (It also helped that I was able to buy it about thirty dollars cheaper when it was on sale here.) Yes, the printing is a little slow, but the quality is great! I also like the fact that I can get ink cartridges for less than ten dollars (Canon brand even)! My "other" printer is a Compaq that came with my computer, but I about croaked when I had to replace the cartridges. Just getting one black and one color cartridge for the Compaq costs about sixty dollars!! Sheesh! At the price this model, the Canon is, it practically makes it a disposable printer. I'll be very satisfied if it lasts even ONE year... because I'd spend double the price of a new Canon BJC-2000 just for cartridges for the "old" printer.

Summary: Love this little printer!
Review: I have an internet appliance (not a computer) and wanted something to allow me to print letters to friends who do not have email, copy pages from the internet, and also print copies of any orders that I make online, etc. This little machine is so simple and straightforward that you simply can't miss with it. You just plug it in and hit the print button on the appliance! And...voila...it prints! The inkjet tanks are pretty inexpensive and simple to replace. You just open the little door and the tank holder slides into view, you move 2 levers, pop the new tanks (or tank) into place, move the 2 levers back, close the door and you're ready to go! However, be sure that you order the cord that hooks it up to your appliance/computer...as it does not come with the printer.

Summary: A good but short life
Review: I have had mine a little over a year, and while it did great at printing both in black and in color (the output of photo-type documents was grainy at best), I had habitual problems with the printer not printing in black. It would go through all the motions, and even replacing the ink tank and print head did not fix it. Canon's advice was to take it to a service center, which led me to the "it's cheaper to buy a new one than to fix it" situation. Printheads, at $52 or so each, don't last as long as I had hoped either. Not a bad printer, and maybe you will not have the problems mine has, but I must believe there are better on the market
