Summary: Best consumer Photo Printer available
Review: I have an office that uses several specialized printers. We use an Epson that is a few years old for ad proofing. In addition, a canon printer had been our "photo quality prints" machine. When we wanted to update the Canon I looked at all the new printers up to about $3,000. The Epson 1270 has the ability to print such high quality that it was not necessary to spend more. I have some friends in graphic design who do not use Epson Printers but almost all do. This Printer convinced me that Epson really does have the best inkjet technology. The 1270 did have some problems with color (orange shift) early on but Epson has mostly corrected the problem with new ink and paper configurations. Epson also quickly released a new version of the printer to help leave the problems behind. The new 1280 Printer prints at a higher DPI 2880 x 720 but the 1440 x 720 is fine for our usage. In fact I could only tell a difference when using a magnifying lens and comparing the areas of a picture where you have a variation in continuous tone - like in a cloud in the sky -. The dot pattern seems somewhat smoother at 2880 x 720 where the cloud thins. I think it might matter if your print is inspected under a loop but short of that you could not really tell. Due to the great quality out-puts I have started printing some of my digital photography using the 1270 and it is just spectacular. If you want the longevity of 20 years Epson claims, you really do need to frame the prints tightly to protect them from the atmosphere. Summary: This is one of the best printers ever. The only printers that compare to the Epson 1270 are other Epson printers. The 1280, 2000 & 5500.

Summary: Epson Stylus Photo 1270 Inkjet Printer
Review: I have been using this printer for over a year now after replacing my HP.I have printed nothing but awesome photos time after time. I would have given this printer a 5 star except for the price on the hard to find ink cartridges. There are alternatives in generic catridges, but the results are less than perfect. A 5 star rating, however, would go to Epson's customer service. These are very knowledgeable, helpful employees. No, I am not one of them, but I have been treated very well, and in a timely manner on several occasions.

Summary: The Best
Review: I have just replaced an Epson SP750 with the SP1270. The 750 does nice work but the 1270 produces, without a doubt, the best images I have ever seen from an inkjet printer.

I have printed 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10 photos on both the new premium glossy photo paper and Matt heavyweight paper and you cannot tell the difference between those prints and copied done by a photo lab.

As for other types of printing the 1270 also produces clean, crisp output. PDF's printed with the 1270 are much better looking compared to those printed another printer.

The1270 will replace my Epson SP750 and SC1520 both good printers, but no where near the quality of the 1270. In addition, the 1270 is fast and very quiet.

Summary: Gorgeous Photos
Review: I have made hundreds of 13 x 19 in. photo prints on this machine. The best results are with mat paper or treated water color paper. You may only get 10 or so prints per ink cartridge.

Summary: Epson 1270
Review: I have used this printer for 3 months now and it is extremely good for photo quality printing. The color reproduced very well with the on-screen colors (wysiwyg). This printer, if used with the USB port can print a normal 8X10 photograph in less than 10 minutes. Extremely versatile printer and low capital cost.

Summary: I thought it was my camera
Review: I just received the Epson 1270 and the quality of the photo prints are fantastic. I am using a Nikon 990 with a HP printer and was getting only fair prints. You cannot believe the difference with the two printers, I only regret taking so long to purchase the Epson. If you are considering the purchase, don't wait!!

Summary: Epson 1270 a Winner
Review: I recently purchased the Epson 1270 and am very pleased with the photographic printing results it produces. Epson Premium Glossy Photographic Paper really lets its quality shine. Although there are stories of "orange discoloration" occurring with this printer, I have not yet experienced this. Prints are sharp, sharp, sharp on the paper previously mentioned. Sharpness is limited by the source file so don't expect great results when printing at less than 200 dpi. Greater than 300 dpi is overkill on the other hand.

One feature I particularly like is the ability to print large panoramas. These need to be printed on regular Epson photopaper but still look great.

Downside is the cost of ink cartridges and paper. A set of cartridges can be had for around $45. Not too bad but they run out fairly fast and get pumped dry when the printer is being powered up even if no prints are done. The automatic ink monitoring is nice (bar graph display) but is based on inferred information (not true ink level) and can cause the printer to indicate dry cartridges (hence printer shutdown) when there is ink left in them. The electronic chip on the cartridge can be reset by the clever user to make use of the leftover ink but newer version printers are rumored to prevent the reset process.

If it were not for the ink cost and useage, the potential fading problem (which I have to see to fully acknowledge), and the paper cost (which isn't all that bad), I would rate this printer a 5 star. Color - excellent; resolution - excellent; speed - good; noise - minimal; software - very good; instruction manual - needs work in areas of output options (sizing, croping, etc.)

Summary: Epson Stylus 1270 & the Olympus c3030.....what a team!
Review: I recently purchased the Epson Stylus 1270 and an Olympus c3030 camera. The results I am getting from both are nothing less than staggering! Although my HP970 produces fine photos with impressive color and resolution, the Epson 1270 improves the overall quality measurably. The colors produced by the 1270 are richer and brighter. I also intend to use the Epson recommended heavy matte papers to assure long-life photos. It is unfortunate that digital photos printed with inkjets will fade with time, however, Espon has increased that time substantially.
