Summary: THIS IS A MUST HAVE!!
Review: I have just recieved this item for a gift from some family. I have done much research betwwen archos and the rca lyra and am glad with my decision. This product is the best. Some of the great features are the built in 20gig hardrive. Thats close to the size of some laptops drive, It is extremely user friendly . Recording video from a analog source could never be easier. Getting video from the computer will take a couple days to get down but once u do its easy! It instantly installs as a second hard drive so u can just drag and drop the files on to it. The sound has the best quality. Video is outstanding and photos are sweet. Even viewing on a telivision the picture is almost dvd quality. Dont forgett the attachments. I deffinatelky recommend this item over the rca llyra. This one has all of its features. The price is worth it. Lyra does not have a solid body this one does. The one down fall is the screen it is sensitive. You need to take care of it. The controles take 5 minutes to learn also. So even if u want the lyra for the $$ save up for this one!!!

Summary: Bigger than what I wanted to carry always.
Review: I have this to compare with the Lyra AV side by side but this with all the accessories is just too heavy and bulky to carry. It is more expensive and cheaply made with all plastic materials. It doesnt look like the price it is asking. It is supposed to be a mobile entertainment device, but the size and the form makes its awkward to be mobile. If they can reduce the size and the weight and make it a little sexier than the Lyra, then it maybe worth considering.

Some are raving about the camera accesory that attaches which makes it bulkier. What a joke. The resolution is not even decent to be serious.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: I looked long and hard at both the RCA Lyra and this device. I picked this one and am not dissappointed!

It does everything they say. When recording DVDs, it provides near-DVD quality playback on a normal TV, awesome playback on the unit itself and the ability to download that file to your computer and view it there as well.

If you have movies in .avi format already and want to download them to the unit, there is a utility to convert the resolution and sound into smaller sizes that will still look great on the unit, but save more than half the space.

I use the space saving option for most movies. The larger file opition is needed for action movies where things are happening very quickly on screen.

This unit offers enough versitility to satisfy gear heads and can be "Bard Simpson easy" to use for those who barely know how to work a VCR.

The size is right. It fits very well into my brief case. It has a smaller footprint than my PalmPilot, but is about half again as thick and weighs a little more.

I recommend picking out a nice padded case to protect the screen. Also, get yourself a small pull-string nylon bag for the cables and charger.

You're gonna like this.

Summary: Mediocre At Best
Review: I recieved the AV320 as a Christmas gift this past December. As you can see, it is now June, not six months later. My system is very messed up and often will not turn on. If it does turn on, it shuts off when it feels necessary. Or, lines appear on the screen. I don't know anyone else with this, so I can't say whether or not it's a common problem, but I do know that I'm taking it back very soon to replace it, probably with a Panasonic SV-AS10D. I thought perhaps it was a power issue, but it has full battery. I can only owe this problem to something with the machine.

However, I must admit that I like the HD screen very very much, and the sound quality is beautiful. I recorded a hardcore show one night, and upon playing it I felt like I was there again. It's a pity that it's so badly messed up.

Summary: This is awsome
Review: I travel extensively and don't fly first class very often. I'm usually packed in between 2 400 pounders. This unit lets you watch movies or listen to music even if you were in a strait jacket. The image is clear and with the new firmware it's even better, If you use bootlegged talking books you can advance it to the spot you left off

Summary: But how does it compare to the Lyra?
Review: I've been enjoying my Archos AV320. Although support is non-existant - you will never reach Archos for help in any way, and this scares me, so far I've eventually figured it all out on my own. I love thAT IT records live TV and DVDs/ videos. Turning your downloaded AVIs into mpeg4 format, playable on the unit, is annoying but easy - it works. I want to knopw how it compares to the RCA Lyra 2780!

Summary: Awesome product!
Review: It does pretty much everything you want. The interface is nice and simple and the software supplied is simple to use, even using some free software for mpeg4 encoding. The battery life is exactly what they print, perhaps a little longer. It's a little heavy, but that's it's only 'minor' downside.

Summary: Better than Lyra
Review: Just took my Lyra back yesterday. The firmware had a lot of problems and was slow. Though the Archos is a little more the remote control and scheduled DVR make it worth the $$.

The fact that the archos seems to ignore encryption seems to make taking your movies on the road a lot easier too.

Summary: Very Simple
Review: Like many, I was deciding between Archos and RCA. I'm sure RCA has released I good product but...after doing research I had my doubts about the RCA(bad software, delays, side by side reviews, etc).
I'll try to keep this short. Overall this is a good device, it does what it claims to do very easily.
PROS:
+Nice screen
+Easy Navigation
+Easy to Record Audio/Video
+Easy to transfer files
+Sound and Video quality is great
+Clean design
+Controls are good(except when the middle joystick button option is on)
+The ablity to have ad-ons(My deciding factor)

CONS:

-The weight...its not a brick but its heavier then Iexpected(this weighs 12.5oz/RCA weighs 12.8oz...according to official specs)
-The price..but its a new product from a small company

I have only had it for a week(I ran though most of the functions) so I might find more nagging things. But so far, so good

My real rating is 4.5(The price should be lower)

Summary: Great product but plays same sequence of songs even in "rand
Review: PROS:
This is just an AMAZING product for playing/recording audio-video. I'm waiting for the AVCAM 300 eagerly. Card readers are awesome.. I use them with my dig camera and camcoder. Battery life is fine. I use this to even backup my laptop data. It is worth $$$. Would be nice if we get 40GB for that money though.

CONS:
I have 500 songs including many albums and if I play this in RANDOM/SHUFFLE mode, it will always play the same sequence of songs everytime whatsoever. This just sucks since I'd exactly know that song #37 would always follow after song #12 and song #212. CHEEPOS, THEY COULDN'T USE A BETTER RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR ALGO! ARCHOS ENGG TEAM FIX IT FIRST WILL YA? U guys did a great job everywhere else. CMON. They charge a lot for shipping and for their accessories. This is where they make the real money. And there website wont accept a different shipping/billing address. Hello, people travel a lot. You are missing out many online customers. It also misses any security features. Would be nice to have a simple password lock for data folders.
