Summary: Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra (40 GB)
Review: Opened my Jukebox Christmas morning and have used it everyday since - I love it! I should point out that I have not used any other MP3 players. Where to start - it's a great place to store all the CDs that I only ever want to hear one song on. In addition, it's wonderful for long car trips - I can avoid dragging my music collection along for the ride. I make one play list that lasts hours. It's easy to use (as is the software - I'll get to my complaints about that in a moment) and works on my home or office computer. It's larger than some of the others but I'm not one to complain about that. I like how it looks and the carrying case works fine for traveling to and from the office.

I wanted an MP3 player for my new Element which came with an auxiliary jack. The problem was when I drove my other car (without an auxiliary jack) I couldn't use it. After shopping at Target and inspecting iPOD accessories, I found that they too work for the Jukebox. I can use both the Belkin FM transmitter for my car and RCA jack to hook my Jukebox up to my home theatre system. The other attractive feature for me is that I can use the hard drive to carry computer files to and from work - I have both a Jukebox and memory stick that are easy to use.

Complaints:
I've never had a problem with the software but did notice only a few days ago that I cannot burn CDs of my play lists - BIG BUMMER. I checked with the Creative site (which is not the best for customer service or simple fact finding) and it said that only "certain versions of the software have the option to burn CDs." Problem was it didn't tell me which versions. The best solution to that is to use RealPlayer to organize my files instead (both RealPlayer and Windows Media Player will recognize and transfer to and from the Jukebox). I have heard of other "organizer software" for the Jukebox which is available for download but have yet to find it.

My second complaint is the volume of media is so large on my Jukebox that it is a nightmare to find one song - if you don't use the play lists you'll be fumbling a lot in the car.

I also have experienced the "rebuilding library" message that lasts from two to five minutes if I have not turned on my Jukebox for several days - I'm unsure if this is due to the other computer files that I store on the hard drive or that I simply have not used it.

Just my thoughts.

Summary: Great when it works, but fragile
Review: Excellent features and performance and especially worthwhile if you need the 60 GB disk. But it broke after falling 18 inches to a tile floor. This just doesn't cut it for me.

Summary: Zen, Such a huge unneccesary disappointment.
Review: 3 things the Creative lacks on and 1 they win!

1) I am in this mp3 player market to play mp3's in my car. I dont want to have a HDD bouncing around the car. I want a safe, secure place to put it and Creative doesnt offer one. However you can go to Dell digital Jukebox and iPod and see the cup holder that doubles as a holder for their players complete with a stabilizer and even a suction cup on the iPod one for stability. Creative offers no such accessory.

2) Once the player in in the cup holder, I want to connect it to my radio. Both the Dell and iPod have respectively outsourced Belkin and Monster Cable to sell accessories for this. They have an FM modulator that also acts as as a AC power adapter. With this, you plug into your lighter adapter in your car and plug it into your headphone output. It transmits a short wave radio signal on 88.7FM. Done with one plug! Creative offers a cassette adapter and does not offer a car power adapter.

3) For the power adapter issue, you could probably read the voltage on the ac adapter and find an after market one from Radio Shack, but then you may have warranty issues with creative. Even so, thats the 2nd wire coming out of your player and one more accessory to buy. It just doesnt seem worth it.

:) The nice thing about it is that it looks great with the annodized alluminum and has a 60GB capacity which is far better than Dell's 20GB limit and iPods 40GB limit. You just have no where to put it and too much to plug into it. Such a huge unneccesary disappointment.

A side note... I opened a ticket with Creative Technical Support, since there is no other way to contact Creative that I could find. They will not pursure this with any dept inside Creative for you, nor will they put you in contact with someone that cares. It costs them a lot more than 1 customer. I wish they wouldn't force me to buy an iPod over this, but so be it.

Summary: Cool Player but softwear was hard to use
Review: If you want to get yourself a Hard Drive MP3 Player, you need to go out and get this one. Couple reasons why: 1. price is the same as IPOD-20GB 2. Has lots of great features that comes with player.
The bad parts of the player is the softwear. I had a hard time getting my computer to recgonize the hardwear. I suggest you read the mannual that is on the CD real carefully. If you do not follow the installation process correctly the player will not work on ur computer(I have windows XP home edition). One thing i think that it lacks is a FM tuner but with 40GB i guess no need for it.

Summary: Buggy player software.
Review: I bought the player as a gift for my wife. Unfortunately, nearly every time she turns it on, it needs to "rebuild" the library. After consulting with Creative email tech support, I reformatted its disk and reloaded its firmware. This didn't fix the "rebuild" problem, but did eliminate a tendency for the player to freeze completely on occasion.

Creative told me that they are not aware of any firmware bugs that could cause the problem, and didn't offer to swap the unit so that they could investigate the probem(s) themselves.

Unfortunately, Creative's software isn't stable yet and the company tech support is unresponsive. I hope your experience is better than mine has been. In the meanwhile, I'm going to wait a year before purchasing from them again.

Summary: Unbelievable
Review: It's unbelievable! Creative Nomad Jukebox has made my CD burner, car CD player and portable CD player obsolete in just two days. It was $60.00 cheaper than the 15gb iPod with twice the memory. The only negative is the scroller very touchy it took quite a wile getting use to. Unlike the iPod Nomad has a replaceable battery. My son bought an iPod two weeks ago without doing any research; his battery will not hold a charge and has to be sent back to Apple for replacement. If out of warranty Apple wants $100.00 bucks for a new battery.
Creative Nomad accompanied with a $23.00 irock transmitter makes a 6 Cd car changer look like an old AM radio. You gotta have it.

Summary: Creative Labs= Lousy Customer Support
Review: I would not recommend ANY Creative Lab's product. Customer support is terrible. Products are generally 'good enough' (kind of like Windows) but that's about it. Mix in the lousy support and you have a product not worth bothering with

Summary: A great product that has stood up for me
Review: I've read many of the reviews, and the headphone jack seems to be quite a problem. I don't know how common this is, but I have had my player for 5 months now and have had no problem whatsoever.

I work on a farm and use it nearly everyday. I've dropped it, banged it up, and smashed it into things by accident. Yet I still haven't had a problem with it.

I'm not saying that there isn't a problem with the constrution, it does seem a little flimsy, and that is why I docked it a star. But when it comes to sound I have not heard anything better. I have it hooked directly to my stereo in my truck, the player has a car mode. If the power is turned of at the charger, the player will turn off. I think this is neat as hell, just like a normal car radio. Sure you have to mess with the wiring in your car a little, but for me it is worth it.

The software was simple for me, within an hour I downloaded the software, drivers, and 2000 songs. I have no complaints about this product, and I recommend it to anyone. If your unsure about the construction then get an extended warrenty. It is the best sounding player I have ever heard, hands down.

Summary: get the warranty
Review: I got this item on February 12 this year from best buy. It is a pretty good product, but if u drop it once it will almost definetely break or stop working, even with the case on it. Luckily I got a two year warranty withit and I have replaced it three times because I dropped it. One of the reasons I got it best buy is because you don't have to get a replacement you can get store credit so i am probably pay the extra money and get a 15GB iPod. If you do get this product be sure to get a warranty with it if you want it to last a couple of years.
