Summary: Altec Lansing XA3021 Cheesy Look But Great Sound
Review: I was looking to replace my malfunctioning Aiwa stereo system that I had hooked up to my computer as my computer's speakers. I found the system on XA3021 on buy.com for $19.99 and almost bought it right then and there (before my traditional epinions check) because of the price. But I checked it out on epinions and everybody seemed to enjoy their system. I also thought that the system looked kind of cool with the grill covers. The best part of it was that everybody else paid $40+ for their system. I was very excited to have a sound system for my computer that had a separate subwoofer.

When the system arrived, the installation was pretty painless. The XA3021 comes with two satellites speakers, one subwoofer and an attached remote control. The remote control has the volume control, the power on/off button and three preset equalizer buttons ('TV', 'Gaming', 'Bass'). The speakers are relatively small (4.4 in x 3.8 in x 6.8 in), but the subwoofer is actually quite large (8 in x 8 in x 14.5 in). The subwoofers for the systems that I've had at work are no where this big. Make sure you have the room for this subwoofer before you buy it. The subwoofer actually looks like a small torpedo. When I first pulled the system out of the styrofoam, I was kind of disappointed with how the speakers looked. They looked kind of cheap and flimsy (now that I've had them for more than a month, they don't bother me ... much).

The XA3021 comes with enough connections to do what I want. It has a line-in (RCA composite), audio input (mini-phone stereo 3.5mm), and 2 headphone hookups (on the remote control for easy access). One nice feature that I haven't used yet is that it comes with video cable to help extend the reach of your sound/video source to connect to the TV. I really like the fact that the remote is attached. It may be one more wire but I never could find the remote to my Aiwa. I like not having to worry about it, and having the headphone jacks on the remote is very convenient too.

I think the XA3021 performs wonderfully in the little room that I keep my computer. I haven't had a chance to crank it up like I want to because the computer room is right next to my 10 month old daughter's room (so shhhhhh). When she has been awake, I've turned up the bass and the volume and this thing sure sounds nice. The subwoofer definitely has a little punch to it, much more than my Aiwa. The XA3021 did an excellent job with my music ranging from classical to Rock. Playing computer games became a lot more intense with the subwoofer.

Summary: Altec Lansing Rocks!
Review: Before Altec Lansing PC speakers were available, people buying a computer would almost always get a pair of white unknown boxes that was packaged with their PCs labeled or marketed as "multi-media stereo speakers", which (I'm sure everyone would agree with me) sounds like a tin can with a chord.

Altec Lansing did everyone a favor by targeting the PC market and creating real multi-media speakers, I have been a big fan eversince. I probably have bought over 4 Altec Lansing speakers and this model the XA3021 is by far the best I've had. Nothing in the same price range can offer you crystal clear audio with a heavy thumping deep bass range. Whether you're listening to Jazz, Classical or Rock, playing explosive heart stopping games, or simply enjoying your favorite DVD movie, you will surely enjoy the experience and I bet at one point you'll smile and say.. "XA3021, I love you!"

The somewhat unexpected, retro design reminds you of microphones from the early days of radio, but at the same time, the green graphics gives you that high-tech feel that seems to scream "I'm from the future! now where is your leader!". The sub-woofer is menacing and looks like an atomic bomb waiting to explode at your command!

Now what are you gonna do ? I thought so, don't forget to get one for your Dad too!

Summary: GREAT SOUND FOR THE $$$$
Review: Besides having a very cool retro look to it, this system has awesome quality sound! It is very easy to hook-up to your TV,VCR,Game console or computer. You will have to purchase a connection cord if you want to hook it up to your computer but it's only a couple of bucks or so (well worth it).
A cool feature about this system is the control console it comes with - which controls the bass, tv/gaming modes.
For the low price and quality of the speakers, it's totally worth the purchase!

Summary: Great System For The $
Review: For those of us that want better sound but don't want the hassle of mounting a 5.1 system this is ideal. Plugs right into my TV's audio jacks and *Presto* GREAT SOUND. This gives new life to Halo and my favorite DVD's. If you want great sound at a great price these are your best option. Plus they look great paired with my XBOX!

Summary: Innovative look with an even better sound!
Review: I am extremely impressed by these innovative-looking speakers. I get clear, crisp acoustic sound with bangin' bass from the subwoofer. These great sounding speakers are an amazing addition to my new-found home theatre system. I had previously purchased a home theatre system by Norcent but ended up taking it back to the store and was delighted to luck up on these inexpensive but rather sleek speakers that were so easy to set up. I began my extravagant listening experience the moment I turned them on and I was immediately captivated. This system took me to new musical heights that I didn't even know existed. I would definately buy these speakers all over again if I had to. They're just that [] good!

Summary: Very pleased
Review: I bought these a few months back to amplify sound on my TV. I hooked them up to a switcher and use them with my cable, DVD player, Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube. They sound really really good. I like them a lot and am not disappointed in the slightest. Apparently, the volume can go louder than I think, because my roommate can sometimes tell what I'm watching all the way from the living room. I'm very glad that there is a bass volume on the subwoofer so that I can adjust the strength (I like some bass, but not a lot).

One little gripe. These speakers have 3 sound schemes: TV, gaming, and max bass. I find little difference between the TV and gaming settings, and would expect a bit more bass from the gaming setting. Max bass is really good for watching movies or listening to music TV channels or for playing an audio CD through your gaming console. These speakers have surprisingly good sound quality.

The little wired remote is a great plus. Some people would prefer a wireless remote, but I don't care either way. With a wired remote, I don't have to worry about losing it or buying batteries. I stuck a hook in the wall and stuck it up there so it's just within hand's reach. I couldn't do that with a wireless! Also, in my room I have one of those light switches that turns the electrical outlet on and off. I plugged the speakers into that outlet, so I just flip a switch to turn them off when I leave the room.

To summarize, this was a good investment. Great quality for the affordable price. I can only imagince how nice the 4.1 set would sound. If you can afford those ones, get 'em! If you want a good surround sound, bass effect for watching movies, get the 4.1 set. The 2.1 don't have quite enough oomph for a really immersive movie experience. But you will be more than happy with the 2.1 set for just casual gaming and movie watching.

Summary: Absolutely the best bang for your buck!
Review: I bought these off of BUY.com for $17.99 with free shipping. Probably the best deal I have ever gotten off the internet! I hooked these up to one of our TV's and the difference in sound is amazing! These little speakers sound really great and pack a ton of bass response! I had to turn the bass down because it was too powerful! The sattelite speakers have a really ambient sound to them, and listening to the digital music channels through my sattelite is outstanding through these! For under $50, these can not be beat! The wired remote is a bummer, though, but for $17.99 I won't complain!

Summary: I love these speakers!
Review: I bought these speakers specifically for my DVD player (player has two audio outputs, TV only has one input, just couldn't get it to sound good), and I am absolutely pleased with my purchase. The only little problem I've had with them is that they're a bit bigger than they look. They fit on top of the DVD player, but only just barely. But the sound is GREAT! I can finally hear the audience participation on the Rocky Horror Picture Show DVD. If I'd just plugged the player into my TV, the sound is far too muffled for me to make out what they're saying. And the price is right on these speakers, too! Also, as is mentioned in a couple other reviews, they're really powerful. I live in a dorm, and they're plenty loud at about 1/4 volume. Anyway, these things are WONDERFUL, and I'd definitely buy them again.

Summary: Cool Retro Design & Bang for the Buck
Review: I got these speakers to add a little more oomph in the sound department for my basement TV (which is the only place in the house my wife lets me play video games.... sad, I know). Hook-up was a snap; they connect to the audio out ports on the back of my 27" flat-screen Toshiba. The left and right speakers have a very generous cord and their stands allow them to be adjusted to provide some directional sound control. The base is a hearty 8" and quite powerful.

What's also cool is that the volume control unit also has two ports for headphones, so my friend and I can use those if my wife needs it quite in the house. Overall a great bang for the buck! I also think the "grill" look of old fashioned microphones is cool; very retro. They don't look like the garden variety speakers.
