Summary: I got a problem
Review: i bought this item and used it on my Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1 sound card. But only two of the satellite speakers have sound. The right and the left. The right rear and the left rear has no sound.....Is it meant to be like that or am i plugging in the output plugs wrong? If anyone knows about my problem, let me know.

Summary: excellent for casual use
Review: I don't really use them for anything besides than playing mp3's. In that area, they get the job done. I can't say that i'm a speaker expert, but i've had them for about two months and every time i turn them on it sounds fine. there's no hissing or buzzing, as i read in some other reviews, but when i bump the cord, they do make a noise, but that only happens when i'm messing around with all wires behind my desk, so it's no annoyance at all. If you're just looking for some speakers to play music, i highly recommend these...

Summary: Great Speakers, Great Price
Review: I found these speakers on sale for 39.99, and, since they were the same price the other set of three-piece speakers by Altec Lansing, I decided to by the AVS500s. To make a long story short, they work great. They have really good base and great high notes. My only gripe is that the two front speakers are hard-wired together, which makes them harder to set up. If you want great speakers at a great price, buy these.

Summary: Great set of speakers
Review: I got these speakers to improve the sound on my Powerbook for use with iTunes. It has been a great bargain. Good stereo resolution, adjustable bass, uses the stereo jack so you're not tying up an extra USB, doesn't hum while off (big pet peeve of mine with some speakers). Sound can fill the room, works well with a variety of music. The price just can't be beat. I mean, this wouldn't be my living room speaker set, but it's not designed to be, and for one-room listening it's been great. Highly recommended.

Summary: I never believed my roommate got this set
Review: I had a chance to test this set along with Yamaha YST-M201 in store, imo, I prefer Yamaha (Y), because the overall audio Y is very good, deep with no boomy bass, and my happy past experience I had with Y 3-pieces set
on the other side, when I test this set, I don't believe this is Altec Lansing!!! what the hell happened???! mid and treble are okay, the problem is bass, it is hard to adjust and boomy, it's over emphasized around 150-200Hz, but very WEAK around 50-70Hz
one more thing I am surprised is my ex-roommate purchased the set, he may like this, but I am sure I don't like it at all, it's not natural as past AL

Summary: Terrific sound for the price
Review: I had been considering getting a small boom box for my office. I don't listen to CDs that often, so I didn't want to spend a lot. I couldn't find anything that I really liked, or that wouldn't take up a lot of desk space.

I started looking at getting a decent set of computer speakers. Browsing through [...many] selection, I found these speakers, which had gotten some very strong reviews. For $30, I figured it was a small risk.

I'm thoroughly satisfied with the purchase. I'm no hardcore audiophile, but I appreciate good sound. They provide a nice full range, even at low volume. Since I'm working in an office, I don't need to crank the volume for a party, but these still provide plenty of power if I want a louder sound after hours. For the average user who's not looking to spend much, you can't beat the AVS300.

Summary: Good bang (or boom) for your buck
Review: I had been thinking of upgrading my computer speakers for some time. I just needed them to test out my music files and the stock speakers weren't doing the trick. So I bought the Altec avs300. At less than $, you can't go wrong. Good sound and even better price

Summary: Loved these for the office!
Review: I have hooked my IPOD up to these speakers and I love the sound! I am pretty picky, and Altec has followed through here. They were affordable, and I love the adjustable bass on the sub. Great Speakers!

Summary: Its ok for the money..
Review: I KNOW about sound systems.. trust me and Altec Lansing AVS300 is a good speaker for average person with limited budget.
Only the basic controls are provided: volume, surround level, subwoofer level, on/off switch, and a switch to select Stereo (two-channel) or Gaming. There are no tone controls (most important option to me)!! I didn't like the satellites lack of rubber feet of any sort, so they kept sliding around my desk and computer. Highs were zippy, although emphasized in such a way that cymbals became overbearing and strings too strident. It did have nice Bass and gave you a descent sense of "surround sound." BUT.. It's easy to setup that even your gramama can do it.
It came with my computer (upgraded) but I rather choose monsoon or JBL or higher end of altec lansing.. but it's only my personal opinion. Average joe (like everyone here) would like it enough.
