Summary: Great Speakers
Review: I spent a long time attempting to find a good pair of speakers. Being a college student, unable to go to the store, I had to rely on reviews for speakers on amazon.com. I found that there were many great reviews for these speakers, yet was still somewhat iffy about purchasing them. Then, I took the plunge... and am happy for it. These speakers put out lots of clear sound, comparable to a very expensive set of speakers. But not. They're a good price for a great set of speakers. I enjoy watching movies on my computer now, with the lovely subwoofer and cute little speakers. I'm glad I bought these high-quality speakers.

Summary: Great low cost speakers!
Review: I was looking for a set of low cost speakers for my computer and couldn't pass up a set of Yamaha's for the price Amazon was selling them at! I've only had them for about a day, but I'm extremely impressed. Unless you're looking for more watts or Dolby 5.1 or something, I would take a look at these speakers before paying more. They give a nice, rich full sound that is more than adequate for computer gaming or personal music listening (they do a nice job of filling a small room). Subwoofer is a really nice addition for game playing. (Side note: I also bought a set for my girlfriend who said she thought that the treble was a little weak. Turned out that the mp3s she was trying to play had been ripped at a low bit rate and so sounded "flat". Make sure that the music you're trying to play is of high quality before blaming the speakers!)

Summary: These speakers are Great!
Review: I was looking for some speakers to replace the ones that came with my computer because we are now playing more music through the computer. These speakers looked like a good deal and they were;in fact they were far better than I thought they would be. The sound is excellent,I don't know why I would pay any more for speakers, these are great.

Summary: Can't beat the bass for the price.
Review: I'm a very picky shopper and I ordered this system in January, 2002 and have been very pleased with the quality for the price. I am especially pleased with the bass which is usually missing from most computer speakers. Playing CD jazz music on my computer is a joy. [...]

Summary: simple, good sound
Review: I've had my Yamaha's for about two years and have been very pleased with its performance. (amazon has got a good price compared to other shops) Not exactly for large house parties, but I have mine set up on my Mac, for music, gaming...normal everyday usage and these sound very good, nice bass, pretty crisp treble. Don't get me wrong, there are better high end sets that of course sound better, for sure, but for the price, as a simple, nice looking home office set, these are PERFECT.

In the two years I've had them I havent had any mechanical problems, at all. If you're on a budget, or don't want any complicated set of speakers, like I was, you won't be disappointed with these.

Summary: Quality components for an upgrade
Review: Lets start with a little background. I've been upgrading my computer piece by piece as things began to fail on it. Well my 2 piece speakers woofers went up and I couldnt hear much so anything would be an improvement over this. I am a bit of an audiophile and am accustomed to my home stereo system, so when I read all of the wonderful reviews on this product I was a bit skeptical. 30 watts didnt sound like a lot of power. I operate this system in a home office so I didnt want to kill anyone with anything in the huge wattage range, but I didnt want to sacrifice sound quality for loudness.
I was choosing between the Boston Acoustics and this Yamaha both 30 watts. For a 10 dollar price difference I didnt see anything in the BA that I liked anymore than this Yamaha. Plus I knew Yamaha is a pioneer in audio and digital music so I plunked down my cash and prayed I wasnt getting a hunk o junk.
I was first taken aback by the square subwoofer. I am accustomed to more tube style subs, so I was thinking the subwoofer would be just a giant midrange. Its NOT.
I have found a great track to test subwoofers, even if you're not into rap music, but want to see where your sound is coming from, Techmaster PEB makes a track called the Ultimate Subwoofer Test. It hits the very low range bass, and can make one shiver on an appropriate system. After figuring out how to hook this into my Sound Blaster 5.1 Live! Card I powered this baby up. Whenever I hear a subwoofer thump when I turn it on, I'm always impressed. I got the thump with this Yamaha. The instruction manual tells you to set the subwoofer at between 1 and 2. I am much more comfortable with it at 4-5 range for rich clear low range bass. You will need to tweak your EQ to these speakers as nothing out of the box ever sounds right.
Now the reason I rated this 4 stars rather than 5 is that I would like a little more "depth" to my music. Perhaps on a 5 speaker system I could get this depth, or the 80 watt Yamaha, but for the money, this is sure better than the old 2 speaker system and it is perfectly capable of standing on its own to use as a secondary audio source in your home.

Summary: Cheap and it Shows
Review: The expression "you get what you pay for" definitely applies here. Cheap speakers, awful sound and stupid design. I thought I would upgrade my Altec Lansing speakers that came with my PC 6 years ago- what a mistake. Now I have to pay to ship them back. You live and learn.

Summary: Excellent Speakers for the money
Review: The price is what I first liked. I have had many Yamaha products and find them always to be of high quality. These speakers did not let me down. The sub is very clear as are the 2 speakers, just to make sure I played the Stones, Rush, and Dave Matthews and they kicked {rear-end}. I find them far better when I figure what I paid for them. They might not be Klipsh, but about 10 times cheaper.

Summary: Best Kept Secret in The Industry
Review: The Yamaha YST-MS201 speakers are the best $... speakers for a computer, I have ever heard! They sound great at any volume, crank them up and WOW!, NO DISTORTION! Just clean, clear music or DVD's/games. The Bass responce in super for this price range ,probably the lowest(45Hz)in the industry. They are very easy to use and to set up. The Bass for the Sub-Woofer is in the back(a little ackward), but I found once I had it set to my liking, I pretty much keep it there. It sounds excellant for all applications. They are very durable, stury, heavy and well-built for their size! Compared to most major brands in this price range(most- light, cheap, and flimsy) Yamaha WINS hands-down!

Summary: Excellent speakers
Review: These speakers provide surprisingly good sound. A real buy for the price. They look good too. The sub-woofer provides good bass, without distortion.
