Summary: Unbelievable, two years later...
Review: An update to my earlier review (by David-Michael Cook);

After two years, and testing nearly everything to come down the pipe, I've yet to find something that had the richness, the power, the features and the utterly astonishing bass for anywhere near this price. The closest at this point are probably the Altec 621s, but this has bass and treble controls, as well as a clearly-understandable volume control (not two buttons that make it impossible to tell how loud the speakers are set at!) Also they are still some of the best-looking speakers in existence, in my opinion. The only thing I've heard able to shake the floor more than this subwoofer is the dual Bazooka woofers in my JVC stereo. In short, this thing is AWESOME.

It's astonishing that nothing has come close to these in this price range nearly two years later. Harmon/Kardon's offerings are pure garbage in my opinion, and it seems as though only Altec and Logitech have decent sound these days.

My advice still holds--these are some of the best sounding speakers in this price range. Buy them. Now.

(and with an M-Audio Sonica--or your preferred 24-bit sound card--the output is even more astonishing!)

Summary: very nice
Review: I bought a set for my office, I'm so happy with them that I've just bought a second set for home. Several of my coworkers have purchased these speakers after hearing them in my office. They are far better than one would expect in this price range, excellent balance and spectral response. Can't beat it with a stick.

Summary: EXPENSIVE SOUNDING SPEAKERS
Review: When I got home to test these speakers. I wasnt expecting these tiny speakers to sound this good. compare to other altec lansing speakers I've own before this is one of the best period. These speakers should cost more. I'm serious.
Excellent speakers for your money. elegant looking and will look good with a flat panel monitor.
Those of you who are complaining about the midrange, try adjusting
the highs and get a better soundcard.

Summary: Terrible Midrange
Review: Quite simply, a downward firing midrange is useless. If you pick the satellites up and hold their bottoms towards you, the midrange sounds as it should. Not a good choice in a speaker. What were the engineer's thinking?

Summary: Good for the Price
Review: The Altec-Lansing ATP3 speaker set with subwoofer accomplishes what it sets out to do. Setup is a snap between the subwoofer and satellite speakers. The satellite also has the volume control as well as treble and bass controls. As for the sound, the treble and bass control radically effects the quality of the sound with a very small rangefor settings that could be considered "good" for sound quality. They take up little space on the desktop and the subwoofer puts out nicely. All in all, a good buy.

Summary: Great value - highly recommended!
Review: This is a very sexy speaker system for your computer, and the quality and price are just right since most people don't use their computers as their main source of audio in the house. They're a no-brainer to set up. Save the big bucks for your video entertainment center's sound, and these will satisfy all of your hamsterdance and greeting card sound needs. I've had them for over a year and use them all day to listen to mp3s and occasionally to watch a DVD at my computer with no problems.

Summary: the ATP3: they look cool, but produce average sound
Review: these speakers look sharp, especially alongside a black flat-screen monitor. connecting the speakers is a breeze and only takes a couple of minutes.

the sound is average, and at least part of this can be attributed to the 3" drivers on the satellites being pointed down at the desk instead of out towards the listener. the satellites distort fairly easily as volume increases, and they don't deliver much in the way of midrange. the bass is clean and strong at low-to-medium volume levels, but the subwoofer struggles occasionally at higher volume and lower frequencies. these speakers do not fare well with classical or jazz, but will suit most pop/rock listeners just fine.

people claim to be "audiophiles," but the term is overused and usually not warranted. if you want to know how any speakers sound, listen for yourself either in a store or [preferably] your room. if they sound good to you, then great. if they don't, then find something else and don't rely on the opinions of five reviewers when trying to choose the right speakers.

i had these ATP3's, but their tinny sound and lack of midrange led me to other speaker manufacturers. i ended up obtaining the klipsch promedia 2.1 speakers. while they are dramatically more expensive, their sound is unparalleled for a 2.1 setup. if money is no object, go with klipsch. otherwise, the altec ATP3s do an adequate job of filling a small room with decent sound at a reasonable price.

Summary: Not Bad
Review: I have a[n] [expensive] tube stereo set up and these speakers cetainly are not close but they are not bad at all for the price or for the use.I think the midrange is a little thin but that could be the MP3s . The bass is good for a computer set up....A buy.

Summary: ...over-rate these speakers
Review: The Altec Lansing ATP3 speakers are ok. Not great. Just ok. For the price I paid, ...[undisclosed dollar amount], I'd say I got my monies worth. Was this the deal of the century - No. Are they worth the list price - definately not. As compared to my stereo speakers, the sound is not nearly as full. The speakers don't have a large volume range and the mid-range is nothging to write home about. The sub-woofer does make for a deep resonate bass sound, however. As you can probably tell, I'm no audio-file, just a music lover who was hoping for a better quality speaker.

Summary: Fantastic Value + Great Sound
Review: I purchased these based uopn the positive revies it has rec'd from recent owners. I too am impressed. Those of you comparing the sound to your home stereo need to realize that this doesn't have 100W per channel power, but it actually sounds much fuller than I expected for 35W RMS. I use these for Music, MP3s, gaming, and DVD viewing. They have no flaws that I can find. All sources of media sound outstatnding.

I have an Audigy MP3, WINXP Pro, and these sound just terrific. Very Crisp Bass, and excellent midrange, These cost me just under [$$$]with Amazon's ...price cut for using their VISA for my first purchase. You cannot possibly find a better sounding speaker system for [$$$] anywhere.

I replaced a pair of OEM PolkAudio speakers on my HP Pavillion, and these are exponentially better.

I would recommend these to anyone looking to upgrade their speakers without spending a lot of money.
