Review: These speakers do not sound bad, don't get me wrong. If the company had actually used a tad more thought when designing the cabling they would have a winner. However, even the sound quality on these is not up to par with the set of Cambridge Soundworks/Creative Labs computer speakers I have that cost about the same price.The sub-woofer seems fine, but the satellites seem to have a much cheaper tinnier sound than the Creative Labs Speakers. For gaming they sound fine, but music clearly sounds better on the Creative Labs speakers to me. But where these speakers truly fail the end user is in the wiring. Unlike the Creative Labs set that is configured more like a standard set of stereo speakers, allowing you to position your satellites anywhere in the room to achieve optimal separation, the Altec Lansing set has very short cables. The left speaker has to be within four feet of the subwoofer. Then the right speaker has to be within six feet of the left. Then to add insult to injury, the five foot wire from the computer to the speaker system has to plug into the left speaker. Worst of all, they hard-wire everything. On the Creative labs system, the computer connects to the subwoofer which connects via standard speaker cable to the satellites. Wonderful and simple design!! The Altec Lansings have wires of non-standard configuration hard-wired into the left speaker and chincy speaker wire that is hard-wired between the speakers (Maybe if you rip them apart and splice wires you could expand it, but do you want to?). The easy configuration of your computer speaker system is a large percentage of its sound and convenience. Dump these babies for the better sounding Creative Labs setup.

Review: These speakers obviously don't have a subwoofer. In this case, that is perfectly fine. My friend has these speakers, I have a system with a subwoofer. Quite honestly, these are much better. If you are looking for cheap speakers that prodce earth-shattering bass, your search is over. Buy these!

Summary: Baby got BOOM, but not separate volume control.
Review: These speakers stunned me. When my tiny "came with the PC" speakers died, I looked into getting some similar little speakers, but then realized that I could spend just a few dollars more for this three speaker set. First, let me say that the subwoofer BOOOMS! The bass from the compact cube is deeper and more throbbing than my full stereo system. Really remarkable. I used this system in my dorm room at Columbia University this summer, and all my dorm mates were so amazed that the speakers were frequently borrowed for watching DVDs, and one classmate was so impressed that she bought her own set immediately a day after borrowing mine. With the massive BOOOOM of the system, it was easy to see why everyone was so enthusiastic. My only complaint, in fact, is that BOOM! The subwoofer doesn't have an independent volume control, so if I turn up the volume on the little speakers, the subwoofer follows right along, thunderously loud. A separate volume control on the subwoofer would have made this speaker set perfect.

Review: These speakers were a great purchase for my computer system. The sound is great, and it was very simple to hook up to the computer. All I had to do was unpack and plug into the sound card. I already had a computer speaker system with a subwoofer on it and replaced it with this system. It was the best decision I made. What a difference! It was worth every penny I spent on this item.

Summary: Amazing little system
Review: This speaker system is so cool. I have had it for about two years. The satellites produce crisp clear sounds with enhanced frequences in all ranges. The subwoofer-it is simply amazing how a little box like this can put out such rich bass. The sound just shakes my entire apartment. A lot of my friends come to visit and wonder what is producing such high quality, distortion-free, rich sound and bass and are amazed when I point at one little box. Sometimes I get down myself to really check the box and see how it really does it :) Believe me, you do not want to have this subwoofer on even at very low volume especially when you live next to a sensitive neighbor. Even at low volume, this little box sends waves of heavy bass through walls and the like. Do not be fooled by "15 watts". Unless you are volume-crazed, this speaker system is all you will need for your computer. The system has full sorround, 3D sound and is amazing for gaming and watching DVD videos on your computer. The sound of this system, beats the boze box systems.
You can also connect the system to a portable CD player or walkman but the perfomance of a good sound card will give you the most out of the system. I highly recommend this system with all modern caliber computers. You will save money and have great sound.

Review: This speakers are great sounding little things for the computer. If you are looking for a set of speakers with a subwoofer this is definately not a bad place to start. I have two sets of them and have had no problems with them, and yes... They are loud.

Summary: U got Altec's ACS 48 and then u got the rest
Review: What can I say....I always wanted to own these in college but never had the money to. Its been 4 years since, I recently managed to get my hands on one of the last remaining sets through underground channels and all I can say is Altec Lansing's ACS 48 Powercube system still rules. I'm compelled to compare them against the likes of Thiel, Vandersteen, B&W who dont even make computer speakers but you get the point, dont you? If clarity of voice coupled with more than sufficient power (40W subwoofer + 20 W satellites * 2 = 80W)is what rocks your boat, well then welcome aboard !!!!!!
Last I checked, ebay was the only one selling a used set.....did I really land myself the last new set ever made? You'd think multimedia sound technology would have advanced enough in these past 4 years to overtake the ingenuity of sound acoustics that go into the ACS 48 but no --- forget klipsch, forget even bose for what they offer for mp3 audiophiles (or even altec lansing's new ATP range.) The original ACS 48, no longer available at stores or sold as a new set on the internet, is ladies and gentlemen the definitive 3 speaker system for your computer. Unfortunately, a lot of you shall be going to your grave having never heard these. Take my word for it -- no other computer speakers on this planet offer clearer vocals at midrange or higher and there is not the slightest distortion at the highest volume (but you'd burn out the tweeter in no time if u played ur ACS48 in the 12 o clock position all the time and u dont wanna do that coz u'll never find a pair ever again). For all you trance freaks who experience a chill run through your bodies when female vocals with synths in the background transport you to just another level of consciousness, belive me you'll never find a better set to fuel your addiction... And if hard house is what you like, crank the sub a few notches up and you've got plaster peeling off the walls. And oh yeah..if God takes pity on you and drops you a set from heaven, make sure you have a top of the line soundcard because these speakers have an uncanny ability to expose chinks in anything less than the best.
