Summary: Crystal clear
Review: These speakers are inexpensive, but pack a really clear, round sound. They confirm my opinion that Altec Lansing is the best computer speaker brand out there.
On the 221s, the satellites hold plenty of punch for their size, and even at extremely high volumes don't fuzz out or crack. The subwoofer shakes the floor and I even had to turn the bass down on my computer (some might see this as a negative).
Don't be fooled with reviews by users that only listen to jazz or classical - while there's nothing wrong with this, it's often deceiving if you listen to harder, already-more-distorted music. I listen to a lot of punk, hardcore, and alternative and these speakers still do an amazing job. Listening to a classical piece through them is just extraordinary - the subwoofer gives you the cello/bass section right there in your room.

Summary: Great speakers
Review: They are very compact speakers which will fit onto any computer table. The sub-woofer does not have a bass/treble control, but they can be perfectly confgured by any software.
But great sounding speakers with great looks!!!
Should buy if you are looking for something under [$$$]

Summary: Ba da boom
Review: What a treat. These little speakers sound great, with bass to spare. I listen to NPR jazz webcast and am amazed at the quality of the sound. The only downside is no subwoofer volume control but onscreen digitizers can handle that. For less than [than expected] plus a mail in rebate direct from Altec, these speakers are a steal.
