Summary: Music Lovers¿. THIS IS FOR YOU!!
Review: Music Lovers.... THIS IS FOR YOU!!

Well after contemplating with myself for about a year.... I decided to get a new IPOD because they are very sleek and nice with a 30GB drive space. I CANNOT be happier! The case it comes with fits like a glove, the remote works well, and the cradle is a great idea. I haven't experimented with my PC quite yet, but for use on an Apple, it doesn't get much better than this. It automatically syncs your music so you don't have to worry about what u have and have not transferred. The sound quality is excellent. The user menus are so intuitive. The new button free design is great. Personally I had my worries when I saw this product online. If you have ANY doubts, I advise you to go to an Apple store or some place where you can actually use the product. You will want one right away. Price is steep, but worth every penny!! At least use one before saying NO.

Summary: Wannabe Musicians Beware!
Review: I had been contemplating buying an iPod for a couple of weeks. When they released the 30GB, I just couldn't pass it up. This device is great. I have a Dell Inspiron which came with Musicmatch Jukebox, so I understood the capabilities of the program. When I plugged in my iPod though, I really began to understand the full beauty of Digital Music. I own about 200 CDs and that can be a hassle carrying out and about. With my iPod and I don't have to anymore. The other great thing about it is that if you delete a song on your hard drive, it deletes it on your iPod. Everytime you Sync with it, it just downloads the new stuff. In my personal opinion, if you don't need a 30GB, then go for the 10 or 15. The iPod is well worth its money. Beware Musicians, because with this device the purest form of digital music is at hand. No longer will I have to buy a CD and find out that I only like 3 of the songs. Now I can listen to it first and then download it onto my iPod for much cheaper. Ah, technology is good. Thank you Apple.

Summary: Great device for music but not good for Audible.com books
Review: It's all been said about the music playback of the iPod -- this is the gold-standard.

This device also downloads books from Audible.com, a feature not available in the previous Windows model. These book files can be up to 7 hours long. However, there is no real "bookmark" feature on this device. If you turn off the player, you have to restart the book. Tech support advised me that if I let the unit shut itself off, it would start where I left off. Even if you do this, you will lose your place and have to restart your book if you listen to music before you finish listening to the whole book file.

The moral of the story: I do not recommend this for its Audible.com capability.

Please note that I use Windows. I don't know whether this short-coming applies to Mac users.

Summary: iPod - The Best Gadget EVER
Review: I bought the iPod after months of anticipation. I was afraid that I was expecting so much I would end up being dissapointed. When i finally bought it, I could not believe it. It was better than I expected. I installed the program (MusicMatch Jukebox for Windows) and I was ripping CDs onto it in no time. One feature I really enjoy is the "On The Go" playlist. You can easily scroll through all your songs and add them to this temporary playlist so you can listen to whatever songs you want to on the go. Another thing I didn't realize about it was the buttons are touch sensative. You just tap them, or in the case of the wheel you just spin your finger around it. Nothing moves! I HIGHLY reccomend this product to students, business owners...anyone who loves music.

Summary: A design classic
Review: A great sleek look make this product a design classic for the 21st century. The main selling point for this type of product is the ability to put all your CDs/ MP3s onto a small portable player. It spells the end for the CD Walkman. My initial skepticism over this Apple product (and I owned a Newton that broke on me) was washed away by this product. Finally they get it right. My 30GB iPod worked perfectly with my Sony Vaio Notebook. It took less than 20 minutes to have it set up and playing. I liked Jukebox 8.0 as well. The best MP3 player on the market! Apple should concentrate on this type of product.

Summary: Great Hard Drive as well !!!
Review: Been using my 30gb IPOD to backup critical files on my computer.
As a computer consultant, it allows me to transport files
between clients and home (That's the story I told my wife,
and I'm sticking to it).
The sound quality is awesome. The ultra sleek look of it brings tears to my eyes. Battery life not great. It's worthwhile to
accessorize (as they become available) e.g. car adapter; USB
cable (so you can use the included firewire as an offline AC adapter). I checked out the different MP3 hard drive players
and second place wasn't even close! Windows problems have been
addressed in the 2.0.1 release of the software/firmware.
Indulge yourself - Buy one. Remember my compact backup device explanation when questioned by your significent other...

Summary: Music Library in a Pocket
Review: Faced with the new iPod, with its 30 Gig storage capacity, slick interface, and well-known quality of playback, this reviewer finally crumbled and forked over the necessary cash and took one home. Keep in mind that I do not own an Apple computer at present and run on Windows 98DE and Windows 2000. This makes me one of the brave, and, as you will see, one of the occasionally frustrated.

My first frustrating experience came when loading the PC software. While MusicMatch loaded on my Win98 machine, the iPod's drivers would not. It surprised me at first, given the numbers of Win98 users, that Apple would cut themselves out of a large market. Then I realized that those users are the most likely to upgrade in the near future, and this was an incentive to consider buying an Apple machine [it worked with me]. It is possible to get the iPod working with Win98, but you will have to download new firewire drivers and a different iPod interface (XPlay) to accomplish it. No small task if you are not technically inclined. It does work, though - I use it now. Installing on Win2K goes better, but both the drivers and MusicMatch are quite flakey on my machine - which may very well be my machine's fault.

I have written about MusicMatch, the supplied recording and playback software, elsewhere, and not very positively. The new version supplied with the iPod (and the latest version available for purchase) have done nothing to change my opinion. MusicMatch has an overly complex interface and lacks many library management functions that would make life much easier when coping with 30 Gig of music (that is something like 7500 tracks of music). And, if you download the latest version, you will find out that there are no iPod drivers out for it yet. The result is that I use one piece of software to record, and another to send the music and play lists to the iPod. Again, complicated.

Needless to say, these problems do not exist if you have a Mac. It is hard to justify buying a computer as an accessory for an mp3 player. But I was already on the verge of getting a new machine, and this really tipped my decision.

The iPod itself is magnificent. It is small, and simply, but provides all the needed features for selection and playback. The sound quality is superb and the capacity astounding. I can get just about every CD in it. The extras provided are a contact list, notes, and calendar. All of these are view only - you actually create them on the computer. And there are a few games. If you have a PDA, you already have better versions of everything.

The iPod itself rightfully deserves 5 stars - it is a technical marvel - but several factors went into the lower ranking. I discovered (as other reviewers have) that the phone plug is a little fragile. In this case, it was partially my fault, but caution is necessary. Battery life is partially dependent on output volume, which is something to keep in mind if you decide to use real headphones. Don't assume you will always get 8 hours of playback. Finally, the mediocre support for Windows machines and USB is a serious drawback that must be taken into consideration.

Summary: My Favorite Electronic Toy (PC version)
Review: I've owned the 20gig iPod for Windows for about 6 months now. It is still the coolest piece of electronics that I own. Many of these reviews are bashing the windows version of the iPod. My response to that would be: user error! Yes, you need to install a firewire card, Yes, you're gonna need a fair amount of RAM and hard drive storage to run this well! That said, my iPod has changed the way I listen to music. I ripped my entire collection onto my computer and iPod and it goes everywhere with me. I use an iRock wireless adapter to play my music through my car radio or home stereo and plug the iPod into my computer speakers at work. Battery life is great; I think I'm getting 8-10 hours and have a power adapter for the car for longer trips. My only complaint is addressed with the new versions. They now have a sync cradle so you don't have to crawl to the back of your computer to plug it into a firewire port. Overall, great product and worth every penny. If it broke I'd by another one tomorrow.

Summary: AWESOME! Use Windows Media Player!
Review: I hate apple products until now. The 30 GB iPod is small, maybe heavier than I thought, but awesome. It downloads at amazing speed and for everyone who doesn't like the software, just use Windows Media Player! It is soooo much easier!!! Go buy an iPod!

Summary: Good
Review: Well this product has all the features of the 10, 15, and 20 Gig iPod but 7500 songs? get the 10 gig. Cheaper, with all of th same features but 2500 songs. thats more than enough for half the price. I suggest the 10 gig because if you have over 2500 songs to put on it- thats crazy. Wise buying move take it from experience.
