Summary: The right size
Review: I've owned all the incarnations of ipod since release. This one is the best. The size and feel are the best. It come with AAC encoding which allows much smaller size files without effecting quality. They fixed the problem with the old remote connection which was flaky. The case still [stinks], I just use a oakley microfiber bag. The dock is nice, plus it has a line out -- good. The touch buttons are too sensitive, this should be fix by a software update. The smart playlist are great and the on-the-go playlist is also very nice. Also, this might be the first ipod with recording abilities, ipoding.com had an article on it, I tried it and its true, it will record (diag mode), apple just has to write the software to support it.

Summary: Best of them all!
Review: Apple has done it again. I had a previous 10Gb model but this one is even smaller and holds just the little extra I needed. Besides alle the idiot proof features, I can now broadcast all the songs wireless through my house. My 13 year old can't stop using it. Never read or needed any manuals; it's a real Apple product! Granted, on the PC it's not as good as on the Mac (In regards to software and features), but look to MS for that problem.... I just gave away my last PC to a friend and bought a mac for my son.

Summary: new iPods are still hot.
Review: I'm not sure what the previous poster was thinking... His review did not mention ever having ANY experience with the new iPod in any way... moreover, he is basing his judgment of Apple support. on the happenings in one Apple discussion forum...

That is in no way indicative of the support that Apple provides for the iPod. I've had my 1st generation iPod serviced and replaced, and I can say from first hand experience that the Apple support staff was helpful along the entire process, and actually LISTENED to my concerns. Moreover, when time came to send it back for service, Apple had record turn around time... 4 days and i had my iPod back. I've never had such fast and responsive support on any product like the iPod...

The new iPods represent an evolution of an excellent design... the new one is thinner (almost by half) than my original iPod, and lighter. In addition, the new iPod has great new features, and AAC audio playback for higher than MP3 or WMA quality audio files, plus support for the iTunes Music Store. On top of all that, the iPod now work completely cross platform... One device can hook into both Macs and PCs and sync with one or the other, or be a firewire hard drive for both. The iPod is better than ever.

Summary: I'm a 100% satified iPod user!
Review: I absolutely love my iPod. I mean LOVE it! It sounds great. It's small. It's awsome. Many other good reviews have already been writtien about the iPod's features and supposed bad points. I'd love to refute some complaints I've read, but I'm going to limit my review to my personal experience with this unit.

I'm a stickler with everything. I'm never happy, especially when it comes to electronic gadgets. If I buy a camera, the next thing you know something better and cheaper comes out the moment I buy mine. I always end up wishing whatever gadget I've purchased could do this or that, or was better at doing such and such. And before you know it, another piece of crapola ends up in my kitchen's junk drawer.

Not so with my iPod! I have been using mine for nearly 6 months, 6 days a week, 3 to 4 hours a day. I still have yet to be disappointed with anything this unit does. It goes everywhere with me, and I have all kinds of uses for it. I play it in my car to and from work, I excersize with it, and I listen to it at night while I'm in bed. The best part aboout it is, I have nearly every mp3 I regularly listen to occupying less than 10GB's, with an additional 10GB's free and ready for anything new I might wanna throw on it.

This is one of the few purchases I've made in a long, long time that I've remained satisfied with longafter the fact. It was worth every penny to me, and I hope it will be for you, too.

Enjoy!

Summary: Ipod Rocks!
Review: I had the original Ipod, but this one blows it away. Smaller, better design. Apple keeps making this item better and better.

Summary: Amazing Machinery...
Review: This is one of the most amazing products I have ever owned. I recently made the switch to an Apple iBook, and did not think things could get any better than that. The iPod has become an extension of my iBook and I never go anywhere without it. Not only is the music sound quality absolutely amazing, but the new details Apple has added make it even more worthwhile. The Contacts and Notes features are very convenient when on the go. Using the iPod along with the iTunes Music Store makes everything about music purchasing and listening easy and enjoyable.

Summary: Great portable music device!
Review: The iPod is, by far, the best hard drive based mp3 player on the market. I would stop short of calling it the best portable audio device because it doesn't not suit everyone's purposes.

Here are the groups of people who should definitely not buy an iPod:

1) Joggers/runners: Since the iPod uses a hard drive for storage, it is not well suited for "active" use. Hard drives are sensitive to lots of movement and can be damamged if shaken during hard drive access. Sony MiniDisc players and flash media based mp3 players are better alternatives.

2) Windows users: Apple will be releasing iTunes for Windows later this year, but the problem is that the windows version will always be behind the Mac version in terms of functionality. Best solution: buy a mac! Other alternative is to get another brand's mp3 player.

So basically, if you're a Mac user and don't plan on taking the iPod running, then you should buy it!

Summary: iPod is not good.
Review: The iPod is OK (3 stars) but Apple has terrible support and customer service especially for iPods and more especially for Windows-based iPods. An example-Apple is deleting suggestions/complaints for iPods from its discussion boards. Further, the iPod has many formidable competitors (cheaper and better or similar features, size, and style) coming out including the Philips HDD100.

Summary: works great with windows and of course mac
Review: don't buy into all the negative reviews people leave and all the mac bashing that goes on. people who have problems with iPod and windows are probably just idiots. my iPod works flawlessly with windows. i'm a believer in the right tool for the right job. macs are great computers and xp is the greatest thing to happen in the windows families. whichever your preference, the iPod is sure to work and integrate just fine.

i recommend that you first choose your primary use for the iPod, other than a music library, before deciding which model to buy. i own the 40 gig one, but i also edit video and use it has a portable hard drive. for most people, they will never fill 10 or 15 gig or however low the iPod goes now. so before throwing your money towards features you'll never use, ask yourself what you'll use it for first.

research, research, research... it's free! you're doing it right now by reading this. research and find what other things iPod can do for you before deciding which one to buy.

if you love music and you like keeping it simple, the iPod could wind up being the greatest thing you ever purchased. it is easy to use... easy to understand... works as promised... looks great... sounds great... feels great.

Summary: good, but there's better out there
Review: This is my first iPod, even though i have been using mac's for about 4 years now! Now i am a proud owner of this product. I could not be happier. 1st things 1st, i am sure you can read all the other reviews and find out that this product is bar none the best out there. But most importantly this is a multiuse product. I now how a portable 15gb firewire harddrive! and this product is smart enough to know the diff b/w music and my other files. as a student i MUST be able to have my documents on hand at all times, and "my comp crashed" does not work now a days. Along my purchase of my pod i picked up a media card reader, so while i am on the go with my digital camera (d100 nikon) i do not have to worry about carrying so many cards for my camera! and i also picked up a voice recorder, this allows me to record audio, which really helps me with things like test reviews, and meetings. (also helps with soundtrack as well). I know that 15g is not much by todays standards, but you have the ability to add an remove these files with ease. as a side note, i honestly do not see how people could actually use a pod that is larger, i have a hard enough time keeping track of 1990 songs i have on it right not (almost 6days worth)
