Summary: My quest has ended!
Review: After trying Savage4, TNT, TNT2, TNT2 ultra, rage128, etc. 3dfx V3 3000 is the first to install and work as promised. No hiccups. Very user friendly. Sure no 32-bit support, but, come on, is there really an appreciable difference with or without it? Those who say so, don't own one!

Summary: Still a pretty decent card
Review: First of all, this is not the End-all video card. But it does combine good price and performance and the best supported drivers in the gaming world (one should expect this as 3dfx basically created the 3D accelerator market). This card runs HalfLife : CounterStrike Mod with the WickedGL(.com) drivers at around 20-50 FPS, which is extremely playable (On a 500Mhz K6-2, 64MB RAM). But when I used it (after a FlashBIOS update) with my G4/400, performance was lacking in Quake3. This card runs neck and neck with a Rage 128 Pro AGP in the Mac world. I suspect the drivers and the somewhat dated hardware are to blame. I'm going to get a Radeon for my G4, and a GeForce II MX for my PC in the future. This was a great video card a year ago, but it's starting to show its age. If you really can't afford the extra ... for a GeForce II MX, this is a decent video card.

Summary: Just to clear up some myths...
Review: First of all, voodoo3 products (all models) are both 2d and 3d cards. 2d is for stuff like displaying windows and your desktop and stuff like that. You notice 2d performance when you're scrolling down a window and the scroll bar is moving in blocks instead of smoothly like it should. Also, 2d is used in games that rely on your computer to make frames or pictures. Quake is an example of a game that uses 2d mode. The v3-3k is excelent in this area, although game performance is highly dependant on your processor speed in 2d. 3d is used in games (e.g. quake2, quake3, unreal tournament). If a game says "openGL" "Direct3D" or "glide" on the side of the box, it uses 3d and will work with v3's. You notice 3d performance when your games don't move smoothly. If a windmill on the screen moves like a clock ticking, that's bad. If it moves smoothly, that's good. The v3-3k is currenly the best 3d card on the market. I say best because even though there's a v3-3500 that's definitely faster, sometime in 2000 3dfx is going to come out with voodoo4's which will dwarf the voodoo3's in performance and support 32 bit color. According to amazon.com review guidelines, I'm not supposed to mention prices here, but let me tell you: they're gonna be cheap! :)

Summary: A Generation behind, but still a solid choice
Review: For those who want the fastest video card with all the newest features, they had best move on and look at the Nvidia Geforce2 and the ATI Radeon. However, those cards work best with the newest hardware and programs. For a lot of us who may not be hardcore gamers, a Voodoo3 3000 is still a very respectable choice. No it does not have any new fancy technology. No T&L support of the Geforce or Radeon, nor can it support AGP texturing (still getting started but it'll be more common), it's limited to 16 bit color in 3D (note: a Voodoo3 CAN do 32 bit color in 2D, like your desktop and web browsing). Still, for those who aren't looking for the latest in technology, the Voodoo3 does give great images and very nice compatibility with nearly any game or program out there, even older ones that do not run well with the newest video cards. There does seem to be problems with installation if you had previously had a Voodoo card and have a hard time uninstalling previous drivers, but as this was my first Voodoo card, I had no problems whatsoever. Don't bother with the T.V. out, it's nothing really that special. Finally, I liked this card because it worked with my older Aptiva computer. The new cards really work best with the newest hardware which also should include a power source of at least 200 watts. Despite running quite hot, this card worked just fine with a computer that was powered as low as 145 watts-something that was woefully inadequate with the newer cards. Don't expect miracles or pretend that the voodoo3 3000 can do more. It is after all, a generation behind in technology, but what it can do, it does quite well.

Summary: the best ever
Review: Had voodoo graphics in pc updated to Monster 3d II did not like it. Then for same price bought Voodoo 3 3000 and love it. The installation was a breeze and graghics are awesome. The 2d part screams past my Ati IIc. Simply put the best I've seen. Friend has Voodoo 2 and there is no comparison. Can't say enough goods things .

Summary: Despite it's age it can very much hold it's own!
Review: I bought a Voodoo3 3000 PCI some time ago and then upgraded to a Voodoo5 5000 - This was great but my new machine does not support it - so I put back in my old PCI Voodoo3 expecting a real let down and I can tell you it's a pleasant suprise, Quake 3, Unreal, Alien v Predator, Star Trek Armada II and Kingpin are just some of the games I use and they run superbly - No juddering, freezing or glitching just smooth good quality action.

Now 3dfx has been bought out by nVidia look at the ... site for excellent new drivers which keep this amazing card bang up to date.

Summary: Not as advertised
Review: I bought the card so my son could run several of his newergames. Th instructions were less than complete and gave theimpression a monkey could install the thing without giving it a second thought. After following the 5 steps in the little booklet that accompanied the board, I was horrified to find the machine now ran much slower and took 3 times as long to boot up.

I called tech support at 3DFX and waited 37 minutes to talk to a young woman who was clueless. She told me the registry was corrupted during the installation process. She emailed me a set of 44 steps to edit the system registry. I explained it really seemed the board was defective and that was why it was so slow. It seemed the CPU on the PC was now having to do its normal processing and also doing the rendering of the graphics. She said no and I spend the next 90 minutes completing the 44 steps. This was a waste of time. I called back and waited 87 minutes for a young man to answer. He had me move the DVD card to a new PCI slot and download new drivers for the motherboard. He assured me this was the problem. He was wrong.

Amazon is sending a replacement board and hopefully this will correct the problem. The board has not been what it was cracked up to be and the "Service" from 3DFX was/is terrible. Once they have your money, they do not appear to care about providing any level of acceptable service to the customer.

I would not recommend the board or the company that makes it. There are plenty of 3D boards out there. Check into the others before putting your hard earned money down on this turkey. END

Summary: is just one enough?
Review: I bought this product for 1 month ago.It really increased the 3d performance of my machine and give a nice tone colour to my monitor. And it is an advantage that glide is just being supported by this 3dfx chip. But Card has some problems also.First of all it is not a real 2d card. Frame rates (fps) decreases in 1024*768 specially in need for speed. tnt2 ultra has a better performance in need for speed. But i do not know is this problem depend on vodoo3 or my 64 mgbyte ram.But i advise to all buyers that select an nvidia chipset card for your agp slot and buy a pci version of voodoo3 to increase 3d performance.

Summary: The Bomb!
Review: I had a Viper V770 TNT2 Ultra it installe dok but it's spped sucks compared to any voodoo 3 (even 2000). It had a lot better graphics on my computer (Pentium II 400 128mb ram) also what I like is you get a coupon for the full version of Unreal tournament. In Quake 2 at 800 * 600 resolution it had much better graphics than the viper. Never buy Nvidia except the geforce but it's much better then other cards!
